Hi Derek, I just found your video. Very interesting. But I’m wondering when you do these strokes if it’s a variation of the Moeller method. When I say variation I think with the Moeller method it would start the stroke by lifting the elbow first with the stick down and then the stick comes down and then does the stroke with a follow up stroke from the rebound sort of like what you were doing with the stick coming back in the rebound. I’m having trouble with the rebound since you aren’t supposed to hold the stick too tight and sometimes the stick will fly out of my hand ( sometimes hitting me in the head!) Anyway great video. I enjoyed your other videos too. Regards from Philip from New York.

Hey Philip! I am not doing a Moeller-whip-motion starting with my elbow when I play double strokes (maybe some other drummers do). Sometimes I am starting the motion with the tip of the stick or sometimes with the wrists..... To get comfortable with the rebound and the stick-grip / fulcrum I would recommend to practice with special drum-pad-sticks like the "Dom Famularo Pad Stick" (R.I.P. Dom!) from Vic Firth / Vater, or the Rohema Practice pad stick. And I use a practice pad with a lot of rebound..... AND: PATIENCE! It´s normal in the beginning that you drop the stick!! Be careful with your head - that´s why I am wearing glasses ;-) This is what helped me and still helps me :-) Hope that helps / makes sense to you? All the best to New York from Berlin! Derek Sorry for the bad sound quality / mix between voice and pad!

Great video! What kinda pad and stand are you using?
@derekscherzerberlin Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks :-) I am using a Yamaha top (from a standard snare stand) and a BASIX bottom part from a snare stand which you can use to play the snare while you´re standing. The pad is an Aquarian Tru-Bounce.....
