I'm closer to 60 than 50 now. I hung out with likes of Conflict, Crass, Flux (and even Bjork at one point!) back in the early 80s. We were all just kids with nothing better to do. London was dark and depressing; nuclear war was coming, and as the Pistols wrote a few years earlier, there was No Future for us. I'm sure most of us were fighting depression and mental illness. This takes me back to the world of sosmix, damp squats in Vauxhall, long road trips in the back of transit vans with amps and drums, rollup fags, black canvas jeans and black DMs, the love of your friends who were there with you and a feeling of despair in a broken world. I can't say I miss those days.
@Joseph-z7s3b8 ай бұрын
The story here in the States was similar. Us kids knowing that Reagan was full of shit when he spoke about the "shining city on the hill." Not for us though... Christ help me but I do miss those days. Teenage drinking, catching shows when we could... getting the shit kicked out of me at a T.S.O.L. show... not because of a fight but because of the chaos. That's what I miss. The chaos. Where's the outrage? Where's the god-damned anger? Sheeple.

No judgement to anyone seeking any RP, under any motivation. Its art. It's beautiful. And, as a listener of RP for over 25 years, I contend the messages contained become deeper as the listener grows. Who is more punk or less poser is not only pointless and devisive, it's anti to the message and is a contributer IMO of their reclusiveness as artists. I understood by reading The Drama of the Gifted Child and finding the seeds of Tower of Strength and Love Is Not; their early albums define & reject the narcissism of society's expectations and subsequent judgements. Anyone being judgy about Peni should return to the lyrics and study, beginning w Farce.

They would have never said that since they themselves barely considered themselves punks. They dressed relatively normal for being in that scene and were seen as "posers" by many people. More evidence against your claim is Grant saying that they might be doing some shows in California back in '88 and Nick saying he'd want to do some shows in the States when an interviewer told him they had lots of fans there. They've barely played live at all in their own country because they're not fans of playing live. That and other reasons like Nick's illness they've never made it to the States.

I was so inspired by Blinko’s art expo at Abbots Langley that I started to write and released an album named Collective Dissonance by Aggviral B3nbow.

There is a band called Slimy Member (named after a peni song) they are pretty good. Altho I wouldn't say that they are able to make something as blistering and utterly unique as peni. Peni while they were technically not very different from any other punk at the time (fast tempos, distortion, shrieked or shouted vocals, galloping baselines) they also sounded completely unique and original. Somehow they created something that still to this day sounds alien and in a class completely its own.

How did I miss this during my misspent youth? Great to jam along to on guitar. Always liked Crass stating not to pay more than what was the marked price , this is the same.
