A small fact that's insignificant in the anime, but is from the LN. Vierra (the girl in the bikini armor) and Shierra (the quiet mage in the robes near her) were both caught in the mana disaster. Shierra was enslaved, and sexually assaulted during that time, and as a result, has horrible PTSD just by being looked at by a man. In order to ease some of it, Vierra decided to wear the bikini armor so that she would show off her own body, men would focus on her and wouldn't even look at Shierra. It was a small enough fact that the anime doesn't even point it out, but the LN goes to show that there's a reason for mostly everything in this world.

This is why I like the series so much. The characters are so well written and realistic as they behave exactly how you'd expect them to given their personality, circumstance and motivation. If you enjoy the show, I highly recommend the light novels. It's such a good read and provides insight and content that's not covered in the anime.

Paul see's Rudy as a genius.. everyday during the long years he made zero progress finding the family, he had hoped rudy would have..in his broken state, hearing Rudy just talk about "adventuring" destroyed him in more ways than one

Realize how we didn't also think about it until we get the letter of Paul, it's because Rudy, Eris And Ghislaine were literally the first ones hit by the mana disaster, they were fron seats lol, so we didn't really have a chance to know the scale of the disaster. So it is kind of unfair for Rudy imo, but Paul expects a lot from Rudy, and he was just been going through it as you can see from his looks, and yeah maybe the way Rudy told the story, he made it sound like they were just having fun adventuring i think

But people have been discussing about other victims of mana disaster in Roxy's village, so he should have assumed that he isn't the only one. Rudy just has gotten too carried away by his mission of returning and was never interested in more general stuff as scope of disaster.

ill just said fact with you guys. Paul was in despair at that time and he always have seen rudy as a genius and a better grown up then himself. But the fact is that rudy is actually a kid since he had not live in his previous life. Paul tho that rudy was his messia that would save him from despair and come back with his whole family back sicne he couldnt get any clue to locate his family for 1 years and a half. When he heard about rudy story that was to much for him he just lashed it loud and at that moment rudy undertand that he was the only one that got teleported but everyone in the village. when rudy saw his sister take a stand for his father when rudy was beating him up, it made rudy sick of himself for doing what he hate the most and the reason why he throw up and couldnt even stand be alive at that moment, he felt he was a real scum for only thinking about himself and bullying his father. Geese knew Paul and that why he send rudy to his father, but he didnt expect paul to be like this that for sure.

Rudy was always a super smart kid often outsmarting Paul so Paul assumed that those smarts would translate to real world experience i think a big part of Paul had hopes that Rudy was more successful in his search that he was doing better than Paul because Paul was falling apart

I want to preface this by saying that Paul is my Favorite character in Mushoku Tensei. I think it's more the fact that he's so tired that he can't even be happy about rudeus' adventure. Sure Rudues had a lot on his plate, but I see it as Rudeus needs to bring Eris home, while helping ruijerd. A straightforward quest. Paul also has a lot of things he needs to do, but I won't talk about that here. I will say though in defense to Rudy, he was near the epicenter of the Mana Disaster, so it makes sense that he thought it was a small scale event. Though thinking about Slyphiette over Zenith that's on him.

I think Paul just desperate And put high expectation on Rudeus so when he couldn't find Zenith, Lilia and Aisha. He blaming Rudeus for not helping him to find them. Not only that Paul also considered Rudeus as an adult since he was kid. The fact that he send him to teaching Eris and i think the way Rudeus act its not like a normal kid. It does makesense that he put expectation to Rudy. Rudy is a genius on his perspective

This is Paul at his absolute lowest, 1 and a half years of travelling looking for his family and finding not a single one of them while having to raise a daughter alone in the midst of the most dangerous areas of the world while also seeing people reunited and every day having to know in his heart that he’s failing his family and his children. Paul’s not the smartest man ever and is blunt as a dull axe - especially when it comes to Rudy - so I don’t feel bad about the stuff he does in this episode, it’s more just two morons who aren’t listening or watching each other because they’re afraid of being told how much of a failure they are. Sucks for Rudy too as this is his worst nightmare coming to life and part of it is - again - his own fault,

Its 2 months late, but I have to give you both full marks on this reaction. So many reactors don't pay enough attention and are gaslit by Paul's drunken accusations. But you guys correctly pointed out that Rudy did not know about his family's trouble and had a full plate of challenges just getting to this city. You are even making the case for Rudy that is presented in the next episode. Very impressed.

Yeah I would say it was how he told his story to Paul that made Paul do what he did. Rudy was going on and on about his adventure. And his wife is S rank but you got to remember Rudy was beyond S at an early age. Ruby didn't even question if his family was okay or if they even knew he got hit. A normal person would have questioned. Just imo.
