This was both fun and revealing. People like to talk about the whole "Instagram guitarist" problem, and this game reveals just how important real chops that matter in musicianship is, versus short clips of someone shredding at neck-break speed because they practiced it a thousand times and captured that one take where they finally nailed it.

This kind of stuff is what exposes who does ear training and who doesn't. I remember doing the same exercise in music theory class except we had no visuals to go off of though. Somebody would play something with their back turned and we'd have to copy them just by listening with the whole class passive aggressively watching to criticize you when you can't get it. Such an important and underestimated skill to have, being able to play what you hear and translate that to the fretboard. What ends up happening once you get good enough at it is you memorize where the notes are on the fretboard and at that point, you can learn anything. No longer need to rely on tabs or lessons or anything to learn a song, just your ear.

I was screaming the whole video "NOOOO" but that's because I can hear the lick, I just wouldn't be able to play it. I think this was the most impressive thing about this video. Guitarists aren't singers and they aren't pianists, and rarely are they music theorists. Rudy plays something unconventional in the guitar world and guitarists (especially noobs) have no idea what's going on. This is why we need Adam Neely up in here. Or, heaven forbid, Rick Beato. That would be a fun battle.

@RudyAyoub my son and I enjoy your content. More of the PG content, because his age, but especially your music. I was curious, if you've ever considered creating and offering a course specifically for the younger guitarist? My son is gifted and autistic, so he struggles with the social aspect of any type of lessons. Since you've already peaked his interest with your music and his use technology to learn new skills, I feel he and others would benefit immensely from being taught your music language. I hope you'll at least consider, offering a course with the basics for the youngest guitarist with an even bigger impact then embracing and developing another's gift of unique music?
