It’s a regular thing. People wait and cheer as the driver speeds up to create a big wave. The children love it because they think they are going to get wet. Of course it’s under normal circumstances when the water is lower and everyone has fun. The water obviously was far too deep this time

@@colinadgie6043 EVEN with a low level water it's not advisable to go fast into any water hazards. Besides breaking stuffs i.e number plates you also risk hydroplaning and losing control of the vehicle.

Lack of experience is a real problem. Here in Brazil we are used to flooding. For a car to pass through floods more easily, the driver must stop the car before entering the water, use only first gear, keep the engine revving high to prevent water from entering through the exhaust and prevent the tires from throwing water into the water. The electrical and electronic components that cannot be wet.

In case this hasn’t been pointed out as appears by the comments, there are 2 key issues: 1. Hydraulicking 2. Electrical problems 1. The fundamental principle of a car internal combustion engine is that it’s a gas pump and relies on the basic physics principle of air being compressible. It sucks in air(for the oxygen it contains) squashes it, adds fuel and a spark = a bang that drives the piston down and the crankshaft round= motion. If the air intake is, for example, at the level of your headlight under the bonnet and you drive through a deep enough flood, the engine will draw in a great big slug of water instead of air. Water is a liquid and isn’t compressible. When a piston rises on its compression stroke, the sucked in water in the compression chamber effectively acts like a solid and stops it moving, thus bending and breaking key components as a result. 2. The other issue is water getting in the electrics and shorting key systems out.

Considering we seem to be a know it all, do what you want when you want to do it society I find your videos Tom a perfect illustration of what is going wrong. People appear to have an increasing lack of common sense. At the water levels shown every vehicle could have got safely through. Just a basic knowledge of how an engine works might have set drivers thinking. Frightening, some of these people drive at 80mph on the motorway tailgating! At least it's good entertainment for the spectators and your channel viewers. Keep up the content.

Not entirely correct. Many modern cars have their air intake at the lowest point of their engine bay. They were never designed to be driven into water. Besides that, you are absolutely right.

They sped up fast because they thought the car would leak and sink. But they really don't realize about the location of the air intake box opening. It's usually just on top of the rad. It's there to ram cold air into the engine, not ram water in. 😅

In a movie in Malayalam, my mother tongue, there's a scene where a doctor is traveling with his family when the car stops due to engine trouble. The doctor immediately pops the bonnet/hood and looks inside. The wife asks him if he knows what he's doing. The reply just about sums up the reason. He says: "Do you think everyone knows these things? When the car stops like this, it is standard practice to pop the bonnet/hood and look inside, even if you have no clue. I'm also just observing that tradition. That's it."

The snorkel only moves the air intake up high. The filter is still below bonnet level and if the one way drain valve isn't in good order, it'll let water in.

Usually the "standard" snorkeling the defender isn't really waterproof. You have to invest some work to make everything really waterproof, especially if you are going through the water at high speed and therefore pressure the water through every opening. Btw it was an utterly stupid move of the Defender drive to force the engine to crank .

Это не река, обычно это ручей. Раньше в Англии часто, в местах, где ручей пересекает дорогу с небольшим движением (в деревнях и т.п.), для экономии не строили мост, а оставляли брод. Большую часть времени там 10см воды и никаких проблем проехать и даже пройти нет, только после обильных осадков разливается как на видео. Один из таких бродов, Rufford Ford на видео, несколько лет назад стал популярен, когда кто-то сделал ютуб-канал с видео машин, преодолевающих этот брод в паводок. Видео завирусились, люди начали специально съезжаться туда со всей Англии и даже из других стран, только чтобы попасть на видео - и очень часто глохли + там просто была толпа зевак все время. Поэтому год или два назад, этот брод был закрыт (не знаю, временно, или постоянно)

кстати проезжал по похожей луже после ливня , вода в лобовое ударяла, тоета аллион 2004 год 1.8 ) проехал и вс до дома и до сих пор на ходу ) хоть и забор воздуха выведен в крыло, там есть в нижней точке бак типа абсорбера или как там) короче как раз для этих случаев) если не долго в брод ехать и аккуратно то помагает

@@МаксимНевский-э7и В 90-Е знакомый на рено 19 дизеле через мелкую лужу проехал так говорит как будто что то под капотом взорвалось и встал.я потом видел этот мотор с шатуном наружу. Весь мотор выбросили, с тех пор лужи глубокие потихоньку.

Standard insurance cover does not include engine damage. No insurance policy is covering any damage from driving the vehicle into deep water.

This only ever happened to me once in over 50 years of driving, about 15 years ago driving back from Gloucester during the floods it was either drive though it or stay a few nights as the roads were being closed so I went for it, the water came up to my front screen, it was about 20 yards and drive through steadily and got through it, its an awful thing to happen but these guys do it on purpose. Idiots.

Came across a deep flood like this and remembered what my Dad told me. Put foot on clutch, go to 1st gear, rev up engine (keeps water out of exhaust) and gently release the clutch in short bursts to just keep the car moving SLOW! It worked!

It's water in the air intake that's the issue, not the exhaust.

The problem with these cars is that air intake is low, so when the water is deep enough it may get into the engine and the engine is done. A bit of luck where the water goes.

That's not the way to do it. It's: enter slow, create a bowel wave (keeps the water out of the intake) and slowly accelerate through the water. The moment the water starts coming over the bonnet it's trouble. It's the reason why those 4x4's have a snorkel.
