@desertmandan123 Think logically, does a bin lorry or bus belong to the driver, no, therefore they don't care if it makes it through or not. They aren't paying to get it fixed. The amount of high end motors that fail to get through these fords to me is quite telling. Look up Rufford Ford on here for countless examples.

@jadams3427
@jadams3427 Жыл бұрын
@@nothingsurprisesmeanymore That particular Scania refuse truck has the L cab. This has an extremely low entry at the door and very good walk through across the cab. That does come at some cost when re-packaging engine components below. Even with the low air filter on other cab types you have have a high air intake, if you expect you may need to go through floods. Driving at speed like this refuse truck did would easily flood most front air intakes. One should drive in to make a wave, then ease back and drive in the trough behind the wave.

@@foellerd Yeah, someone on the MG4 forum said "our cars are basically rafts." If the water isn't getting in (easily) from underneath, air will stay in the cabin and the car will be buoyant (at least for a bit). No rudder, unfortunately! Someone asked MG about wading depth and they said they hadn't really looked into it, better not take it above the door sills. So I'd be interested to know if that car suffered any damage as a result of that. Water in the reduction gearbox? Damage to undertray? Nissan Leafs are rated for 700 mm, which is 2 ft 4 in, nearly as deep as that bloody ford! Even so, don't dive in at the speed the MG4 did.

The worst part is this looks like a regular flooding spot. There’s a depth gauge sign indicating how deep it is. Of course barrelling through at speed is more likely to swamp the engine anyway even if the vehicle could have passed.
@dynamo1796

Part one of the issue is the the height of the intake like you say, but even then all these clowns who go powering in, filling the engine bay with water and ramming it up the intake. It’s like these people heard “push a bow wave” and didn’t bother to listen to how to do it.
@bigworldparty
@bigworldparty Жыл бұрын
Yes some of the drivers that eased in and avoid a big splash into the engine compartment did ok. The water in some shots wasn't deep enough to hit the intake, unless the driver hit with a big splash. Maybe drivers are afraid if they go slower, they will get stuck, hence the mistake of powering in.

That thing weighs 1,800 kg, more than a lot of the cars that didn't float. That was quite the eye-opener. (I have an identical car.) I can only assume that it's so well-sealed it started to behave like a boat with some buoyancy, while the ICE cars simply filled up with water and went on driving on the bottom (or didn't go on, as the case may be). Seeing that second or two of the car very nearly floating away has cured any temptation I might have had to take my car into water that deep!

The first one is called "Buttsbury Wash" in Essex near where I live. It floods regularly and can get much worse than this. The SatNav doesn't recognise when it is flooded and takes cars down the winding road which is a shortcut to the nearest towns. There are warning signs but they stay up even when it is passable. A big lorry cannot do a three point turn and go back up the narrow road and it would be difficult to reverse over half a mile to get back to the alternative through road.
