"If only Yuffie had been a little better at her assassination attempt... I think the world would have ended up a much better place, don't you?" Rufus plays a pivotal role in defeating Sephiroth in the end. He uses the Sister Ray cannon to destroy the energy barrier protecting the Northern Crater, which makes it possible for Cloud and the others to go inside. So no, the world would *not* have been better off without Rufus, in the same way that I don't think our world would have been better off without Stalin (who, like him or loathe him, was a necessary evil for defeating Hitler). This is why Sephiroth is messing with Rufus in Rebirth: once again, he is meddling with the course of events to make sure things play out differently

If according to you, Rufus is vital to his defeat, wouldn't it make more sense to kill the guy who has the means of taking down his barrier? I think that if Rufus had not moved the canon, our heroes would have found another way into the northern crater. They are a resourceful bunch.

i feel the remake wants to make rufus understand what the company has done and make things change in rebirth he askes everyone why did they not stop his father form doing what he did nun had an answer

It's a really good question for him to ask. His follow-up though, is concerning. He basically asks them to have the non-waivering commitment to him. I feel I painted Rufus in the best light in this episode, and yet he seems still irredeemable. Maybe the next game will surprise me.

"President Shinra, who I was unable to find a canonical first name for..." He's like Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars, he doesn't need a first name. Although I have heard that Palpatine's first name is "Sheev", so maybe we could call him Sheev Shinra? 🙂It has a certain ring to it.

Back in the 90s, the fan base was giving him the name Aurthur I believe.
