Just so you know, the guy in the Tartan suit at 4.25 minutes is Doddie Weir, he is a former Scotland International. He played Second Row and is huge. He was diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease a couple of years ago and set up the My Name is Doddie Foundation to raise money to try and find a cure. The guy is a complete and utter legend, he is a wonderful man.

To a true rugby fan the game is more about respect and tradition than winning and losing. The players still call the referee "sir" when they approach them during a game. Players knock lumps out of each other then meet for a social drink after, what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch. Any rugby fan can find common ground with another, if you can't then you don't get it, stick with soccer, we don't want you.

Rugby is essentially respect: respect of the adversary, of the rules, of the officials. The tunnel at the end of matches is a normal thing, at every level and so it is the coming together of the teams for a beer (or a formal dinner at the highest level of the game) after the mach, remembering how you beat the living hell out of each other on the field. And the beauty of this is that those memories are the foundation for long lasting friendship. Anyway, this a fascinating aspect of rugby, but I do think every contact sport has to have respect and control as a foundation, otherwise it becomes violence

This is one of the things I love about Rugby Union. The players are so strong and could do so much harm but while they play real hard, the men of rugby show what real men should be. They work hard, they give it their all, but they respect their opponents and they show compassion, empathy and support for those who need it in their time of need. That is what a being a real man is about .... being tough when you need to but then being there to support others when you need to and when they need someone. Love rugby. A quick shout out to Jonah Lomu, who epitomised all of this.

Hi Jasmine, really enjoyed this video, glad to hear you're a rugby fan! As many have pointed out, respect is absolutely central to rugby. Just some info, in case others haven't mentioned it: The guy in the tartan suit who brought the ball to the centre spot is Doddie Weir, a retired Scottish player who has motor neurone disease (ALS). The guy in the navy suit who did the same thing later on is Rob Horne, an Australian player who had to retire due to suffering a paralysed right arm.

Every game. Every time. Internationals down to grammar schools. The losing team forms a 'tunnel' to clap and shake the hands of the victors. As the victors pass through they form a 'tunnel' to do the same for their opponents. It's not just respect, it's brother/sister-hood. Things you might not have understood..... Players often will trade jerseys. For most high level games the jerseys are embroidered with the date and teams names. They make wonderful keepsakes whether they are framed and hung or worn. I saw a player give his Championship medal to a spectator but I don't know that story. One like that was when after winning the World Cup Sonny Bill Williams gave his medal to a young lad who had run out onto the field to congratulate him.

When you said "Who's that guy", it was the only snippet of Rugby League you showed. The rest was all Rugby Union. The guy is Rob Burrow, the tiniest man in the professional game (you would call him 5' 4" and less than 150 lbs) and one of the most exciting stars in Super League for 16 years. He retired in 2017, became the Academy coach at his only ever club, Leeds, and was then diagnosed with motor neurone disease. The occasion you saw was a very emotive benefit game early in 2019 for him and the family he's going to leave behind, of which he could then still play the last 5 minutes, not as of old, but he could still run out as you saw. The game included many retired Leeds players putting their boots on again for Rob. Now he's in a wheelchair and his speech has been particularly badly affected. His decline has been very rapid, and it has only one sad end, as there is next to nothing medicine can do about MND. The whole of Rugby League has come together in his support, his family's, and to raise money for MND research. Not the most glittering RL in this clip, but there are quite a few rather old men there! kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWfLl5erg8d3mJY So here's one of his "how did he do that" tries in his prime: and an interview with Rob in September this year: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moemgqNqZ5V6rKM

I was at a match the other night and was happily chatting with some away fans who were stood in the same section. I always think the reason rugby is so “violent” is because it is all left on the field. As soon as the final whistle blows the game is over and your opponent is you friend. I’ve seen boys knock 7shades out of each other on the pitch and then spend hours together after the game buying each other beers and laughing away. It’s a game where you have to respect your opponent, the ref, your teammates, your coaches and yourself to play.

Every game . The winning side make what we call a tunnel and clap the losing side off first . Out of respect for the game and the effort .

'Without respect this isn't a game' written on many changing room walls and across our hearts when we play, the key word is play, because thats what kids do, we dont really grow up if we play. Now if you want to see something special there is a clip somewhere of 2 teams after a world cup match getting to gether on the pitch, taking a knee and praying together, a touching heartfelt moment, which to this day has never ever been seen on any football pitch. Ask anyone in your comments section how true that is, its another reason why we love this sport, and the drinking :)

Thank you for adding literally nothing to the original video instead of laughing and saying “that’s respect” every now and then
