I wish the National Rugby league gave the Central Coast Bears the licence for 2007. Would’ve been way more successful than the Gold Coast Titans. As a born and raised Coastie, it’s a rugby league heartland. Would’ve filled the stadium every week

FWIW New Zealand and Australia both hosted games in 1987 World Cup, but the final was held in NZ. Australia hosted games in Sydney and Brisbane.

I'm american and I can't stand all the stoppages. Even when I was a kid and still to this day I only really watch real football, rugby, aussie footy. I don't mind hockey when my local team is good, but even that is terrible with all the commercial timeouts.

Several things League is basically played in about 4 countries. Union is played in more than 120. After WWI the next 2 Olympic games included 15/side rugby. The US won both Gold Medals.

Keep in mind American Football came from Rugby. In the early days it looked way more like rugby. The backward pass y'all speak of is called a lateral which is the 1 thing that shows American football came from Rugby. You rarely see the lateral anymore except in a last ditch effort with no time left on the clock. I do wish it was utilized more. See New Orleans Saints vs Jaguars roundabout 2004. There's a few other of those plays that make for classic highlight reels.
