The difference is Sua'ali'i played union his whole life until joining the NRL at 19. He played (and was a standout) in the AUS schoolboys. We can't see what's happening on the training pitch, but do you really think Joe Schmidt of all coaches would pick him if he didn't think he had what it takes for union? Edit: I also remember watching a Between Two Posts episode years ago with Morgan Turinui, Stephen Hoiles etc when he would've been 18yo (before he decided to go to the NRL) and they were raving about how they needed to recruit him into SR / Wallabies. I've never heard them speak so highly of a prospect. So he's not just some kid, he's as good of a prospect as we'll ever have for a superstar.

ARU has gone completely cooked, and they're beyond saving. I gave up and just watch NRL now, Sualii played rugby union all through his high school life and he only transitioned to League in the past 2 years, it won't take him long to adapt back to Union, but that 9mill during a time of crisis is crazy😅😅😅.
@Wildkard5 күн бұрын
considering 9m is enough to buy half the springboks for 1 player with high school records is a bloody joke.
@TripleA6795 күн бұрын
@@Wildkard High school rugby and grassroots development are areas the ARU has neglected for decades, which is largely why the sport finds itself in its current struggling state. Grassroots rugby should be the foundation for feeding talent into larger clubs and the national team, yet young players at the high school level are increasingly abandoning rugby union in favor of other sports. The real issue here isn’t Joseph Suaalii; it’s the ARU’s tendency to apply quick fixes to deep-rooted problems. Suaalii and his agent are simply making smart business moves in a competitive, capitalistic market-capitalizing on supply and demand. It's clear there’s significant interest from major NRL clubs like the Roosters, where top players can earn between $1 million and $1.5 million a season. Comparing this to the ARU's 7-year, $9 million offer for Suaalii (around $1.8 million per season), it’s understandable why he’d find that deal attractive. But the question remains: why is the ARU resorting to these band-aid solutions? They appear to be increasingly focused on luring NRL talent, but this strategy alone won’t solve the core issues in rugby union. In the past, there have been successful crossovers between codes-players like Lote Tuqiri and Israel Folau come to mind. Here’s hoping Suaalii joins their ranks. However, if the ARU doesn’t address the real problems at the grassroots level, the sport could be in even worse shape in the future.

Is it me or do Australia no longer play in gold but orange. Their last world cup jersey looked so orange I had to pinch myself and remind myself that it is Australia that is playing not the Netherlands. The Scotland vs Fiji match was a proper demolition job, watched it from my club’s clubhouse bar while having a few pints of Smithwicks ale. Joseph must be laughing to the bank getting paid that much while rugby union in Australia sees their financial health diminish. A good book to read to understand these type of decisions is Champagne Football by Mark Tighe and Paul Rowan about John Delaney’s time as the head of the FAI and the car crash that was.

@WaferBrik5 күн бұрын
@@footyfin What I dislike about league is the comparative lack of variation. You have lineouts, scrums, rucks and mauls in union but league only has scrums and they're not even contested. The battle for possession and the ways you can advance the ball you win are more varied in union. You can have quick ball off lineouts or clean takes. Full lineouts or short ones. You can crush the opposition in rucks and a good pack can roll a maul 30 metres. There's the pick and drive, one man after the other. If you're not a follower of the game you may not understand much of this. To simplify it, I liken union to chess and league to checkers. Both are good games but one has a lot more tactical variation than the other. I'm not saying league is inferior, it's simply different. And, of course, each to his own.

The way things are at the moment, Ireland should win this upcoming game v NZ by 5 or more. Should be a good game. And without wishing any long term ills on anybody, really looking forward here, to the moment that Reiko is assisted from the field after being smashed (lawfully of course), preferably in the first minute. He has it coming and these Irish warriors are well equipped to deliver the goods.

Have you seen the guy play either league or his schoolboy union games?give Sualli a go before writing him off, Schmidt and his team obviously see something

The dude won't know all the rules he won't understand the flow of rugby in a tactical sense.
@cloudwatch3696 күн бұрын
He's gonna be cutting back off lolesios shoulder to punch through for offloads, long as he tackles low and wraps the arms his defence is good. Orrr he's gonna be a headless chook haha, either way I'll be getting up to watch it

i have no issue with his talent, i have issue with his 9m contract. rugby australia is a business and these are the reason why the half of the player base have moved over seas.

@@Wildkard Fair call, can't blame Sualli for taking the money their offering though. Stand with him now as he's here for next 3 years at least

The reason anyone is even talking about rugby in Australia now is because of an Ex NRL player🤣🤣 just face facts Union is about as exciting as watching grass grow so you union fans should thank the NRL that people are talking about Australia rugby now😂😂😂
@Wildkard5 күн бұрын
good dont like it dont watch it. RA need to stop begging league fans to watch union
