Ollie of course knows that Andre Venter was not dropped by Nick for Bobby Skinstad (WTF) Andre Venter was moved to lock so both of them could be in the team. Kak descision but let’s keep to the truth. He says Kitch didn’t like Afrikaner rugby players. Well that’s strange because 95% of the players he picked were Afrikaners, and he chose Francois Pienaar as his captain. Kitch also was an old school N Transvaal guy, another Buurman van Zyl. Don’t know what his problem is.

11 of the starting 15 in the World Cup final 1995 were Afrikaners ..Kitch Christie was the coach ...Does Oliie want the entire team to be Afrikaans ?..Just asking ..

He did not say that.He said the Afrkaans players were referred to as rockspiders. That was a wellknown term for decades.

@@lesliestrydom4157 I was in the SA Military ..I was called a soutpiel , soutie , rooinek every day of my life for years ..Just laughed it off as we all did ..Ollie was alluding to these issues that he is so sensitive about and referred to Kitch Christie in particular ..But the real evidence is in the actions of the coach and the fact that he selected almost primarily Afrikaans players shows no anti bias or predjudice ..

What a legend!! We were in primary school, Laerskool Louw Geldenhuys, and Ollie and I had a disagreement. I slapped him in the face and ended up in the headmaster's office (me being std 5 and him being std 3). In 1993 I was in a pub in Stellenbosch, and it was the weekend when the Boks returned from Argentina, after the 'Battle of Tucuman", and the next moment I was dwarfed by a shadow of a giant. I looked up and Ollie was standing next to me and said: "Faans Roos, I remember you - you slapped me in primary school". I was at a total loss of words, and of course extremely nervous, and I asked, "you're not pissed off about that anymore, are you?". He burst out laughing, bought me beer and we chatted for a couple of minutes and then he said: "Great to see you, have a great evening". One of the nicest people you will meet.

When i was in primary school i played against Harry Viljoen. He was in Gustav Preller and i was in Dr Havenga in Roodepoort.Harry was a fantastic scrumhalf and to this day i still say he invented the side step.He could side step like no one else .And i met him in Durban one year and he still remembered me.Just a absolute great guy .

There are hearing the facts, dropping Teich cost us the 99 RWC and while Mallett, started off great, ended up pathetic. Ignoring player / team input at a crucial stage of preparation. Solomon was a nothing coach, no working strategy, no dynamics, all WP and no intelligence to lead a world class team, and Mallett listened to trash talk.

As a Lions supporter I can remember being very suspicious of Solomons in those days. I can remember the Cats beating the Stomers in a big game in which they were very hyped up.

Not playing Honiball in the semi, because one-dimensional Jannie De Beer scored record number of drop goals against England, that's what cost us 1999 WC.

This was my least favourite interview of all. The other greats talk like battle hardened men. He talks like a "laaitie" or a brat. He is obsessed with race and language. Practically every interview with whoever it may be he talks disparagingly of "Souties" or "English players" as he calls them. He has the nerve to hint at he would have whipped Straueli. Straueli would have whipped this guy with one arm tied behind his back, you cant compare the two. Always a nasty word for coaches, players and anyone else he can criticise or get a dig at. What an ego! In my opinion a really unsavoury type who is sullying the good spirit of South African rugby. Today he went to an all time low and even alluded to issues with Jews - listen again to the Kitch Christie remarks. In all the interviews everyone said Kitch was a strict hard man. This guy suggests he hated Afikaans players. What vile vindictive BS. Did anyone notice the BS about that conversion. How I remember he was begging to take the kick. It is a pleasure to listen to all the other men. Never mean spirited talk or ongoing vendettas with everyone around him.

If you actually listened to the interview you'll hear how he also berates Markgraaff, the Afrikaans coach for the old-school Afrikaans mentality of 'shut up and listen' while he praises Nick Mallett, the English coach, for being more forward thinking. You seem to be taking way more offence to Ollie's words here than needed at all.

He of course knows that Mallet did not drop Andre Venter for Skinstad. He moved Andre Venter to lock to accommodate them both. Andre Venter was reinstated as Nicks first choice 7 in seasons after. So why does he make up that BS?
