2:15 Hahaha, see number 7 push number 21 away and then begin apologising profusely? As an amateur rugby player myself, I can tell you two things about rugby referees. 1. Only the captain gets to speak to the ref (that's why you always see two players from the same team when the ref is speaking to the "criminal." one is the bad boy, and one is the captain.) 2. To add onto that, if you try to complain or tell the ref how to do their job, your teammates will be pissed as hell because the ref can penalise your team for that, too.

jay hi same in America, they disrespect what rugby is about; I’m all for introducing rugby as long as the mannerisms go with it. It’s not football
@googleisevil49936 жыл бұрын
In Scotland the refs are treated with respect. I think it's because they talk to the teams before the matches, don't pretend to be infallible and if you talk back to them your team gets penalised. Also, in the amateur game they are unpaid volunteers and you can't legally play without them.
@Greendotz5 жыл бұрын
There is a sort of tradition about it, but I think the fact that the ref is mid'ed and cam'd also plays a very big part in it. Both player and referee know that they're both completely accountable and have the eyes and ears of thousands on them.
@Finderskeepers.5 жыл бұрын
That's a referee failure. He has the option to punish that disrespect but chooses not to. A few penalties or red cards would fix it very quickly with a fair warning to both teams in the dressing room before hand. The French referees are known to be more sensitive with this rule, consequently the players are more careful.

To referee / umpire, you need to be cool, calm, collected; know the rules and how to apply them, and be the equal of the smiling assassin. Many people say that I suffer from referee / umpires' lament - blind in one eye and can not see out the other! And, yes, I am an umpire! It also helps to have a quiet word to the players before the game, so that they know what to expect from you as an official. Basketball / Australian Rules, encourage to play the ball and protect the player in front and that makes the ball their object. It is also quietly mentioned not to backchat or argue... real estate can get very costly if that is to happen! Encourage good, clean and fair play, but consistently penalise where the wrong thing is done.
