We had a TMO for the second clip, and they still missed it. The most obvious foul play right in front of the referee and his own posts, would've been a definite yellow and probably a scotland win had it not been for the incompetence of the referee and the TMO
@AngelicusImmortus

It’s why they put in the rule that a ref can give you a red just for snapping at him/her. If a ref decides they’ve seen enough or a player has crossed the line with what they’re saying they can be sent off even if the game is just a few minutes in. Though I would love to see the Premiership football matches have a rugby ref. There wouldn’t be any of the “won a penalty” stuff, looking for a penalty could get you a yellow sun bin, all the diving around you’d end up with a lot of red’s. Just because faking injury in rugby is a red card offence.

I once heard that during a Sharks match in Durban many years ago, a Sharks winger dummied a pass to the linesman running alongside him. The defending player bought the dummy and crash tackled the linesman. If anyone knows which game this happened at please petition Andrew to look it up. Edit: The tackle probably wasn't cynical. Maybe there is another channel that has it in their archives?

When I was a very young scrum half (I grew up in the end) and making my first forays into grown up rugby, I was caught by a flanker doing what has since become known as a "Neil Back". When I saw him in the bar after I expressed my disdain for the cheap shot. In response he said "Have you read the laws?" I replied that I had. He then asked about the laws for the put in. He said "Had you been a metre from the scrum as it says, I wouldn't have been able to reach the ball". He was right. Lesson learned from an adversary over a few pints of Adnams

@@watkinsrory but it does pose the question of where the line is drawn between what is acceptable "gamesmanship" and what is considered out and out cheating. For example, the constant chatter from certain high profile players at the referee is considered by some as an acceptable part of the game. There is also a propensity for some exceptionally talented players to dive to influence the referee. It is, bit by bit becoming accepted and indeed is praised from some quarters. But where is that line drawn, and who has the right to draw it or indeed judge it? The truth is, and most especially in the front row, nobody, but nobody plays entirely within the laws. The game is, by its very nature, aggressive, adversarial and physical. Anything which might give you a 1% advantage could carry the day. There's a hell of a lot goes on in there that nobody sees. I can't think of anyone who was beyond reproach. Except Jonny. :)

@colinlawler6108
@colinlawler6108 3 жыл бұрын
@@watkinsrory in the example I originally gave I was not a metre from the scrum when putting the ball in. Ergo, I was technically cheating, albeit with no perceivable benefit to my own team. If we take the Back incident back to basics by your own definition, the scrum half putting the ball in was cheating. By the laws of the game, that would be the first offence, from which a free kick should be given, shich would have allowed Leicester to clear their lines. I'm guessing two wrongs don't make a right and all that, but cheating, as you put it, is cheating.

as a Frenchman, I'm glad you included the McCaw "accidental" knee to the head of Parra. The whole world apart from the Kiwis knows very well that was planned.
@richardscanlan3167
@richardscanlan3167 3 жыл бұрын
er,no,nothing was planned.If you actually look at McCaw,you can see he isn't actually looking at Parra,he is looking straight towards Dusatoir at the next ruck.Parra raised his head at the wrong time,and copped a stray knee - there was nothing malicious in it.Contrast that with Duatoir punching Jerome Kaino as he is getting up from a ruck,or Aurelian Rougerie eye gouging McCaw towards the end of the same game.And Ik what I'm talking about,I have seen the game multiple times. You want dirty,look no further than the "battle of Nantes',a game where the french were on methamphetamines ( speed) and who engaged in absolute thuggery - Wayne Shelford had his scrotum ripped open by a stray frog boot. So don't talk to me about foul play,you frogs are among the dirtiest grubs on a rugby field.

@croulantroulant3082 3 жыл бұрын
@@richardscanlan3167 nothing malicious really? Well it was included in the video for a reason and that video was not made by a Frenchman.... guess what the video also includes? the Andrew Hore attack on Davies and Umaga on O'Driscoll. Two of the most vicious incidents I've ever seen on a rugby pitch, and mysteriously, they both went unpunished. But experience has taught me Kiwis will not admit to anything. so I won't bother arguing with you any further. But neutrals know and the whole rugby world knows. You guys are the best team but also the worst cheats ever. Just own it. The battle of Nantes?? come on why don't you bring up something even older? This "frog" salutes you, good day.

@@croulantroulant3082 have AB's put in dirt? sure. Compared to you frenchies,they are angels.All the talk of "french flair" is just code for testicle grabbing and eye gouging - something you frogs specialise in - at least in rugby. NB,you want something older than Nantes,let's see.... ah,yes,the 1968 tour of NZ,the story goes after one of the tests,you could see the scratch marks around the eyes of many of the AB players ( this has been well documented in NZ). Now,does this mean I hate the French? No,I just don't like your rugby team. Having said that,any country that gave the world Jeanne'd'Arc,Edith Piaf and Catherine Deneuve can't be all bad😘😘😘😘😘😘😘

In fairness to SA, is that not what the Lions tried to do the entire tour? While Burger deserved an immediate red card, let's not pretend that the Lions were the gentlemen on the day. By RWC 2019 rules, the Lions would have seen at least 1, probably 2, red cards (O'Driscoll high tackle on Habana AND Danie Rossouw; O'Gara tackling du Preez in the air) as well as a probably yellow for Heaslip (diving on Habana 'long' after the try was scored - could have been escalated to red card for his shoulder impacting the head area) and Matthew Rees (neck tackle - can't remember on which player). Before the game, Gatland was talking up the physicality of his side and O'Driscoll did everything in his power to escalate whatever little niggle there was. They tried to outbully the Boks and they failed. End of.
