@stefan9252 No ways, advances in video and communications tech helps to mitigate referee bias and get higher average of correct calls. However, there remains some problems, e.g. when referee and video ref ignore/do not pick up errors clearly visible for us on TV. Overall, I still take today's refereeing. But I can see how the higher professionalism might slowly "sterilise" the brutal, raw aspects of the game we see in games a few years back. I think 15v15 rugby is less susceptible to what we have been seeing in soccer, i.e. becoming "soft".

@tylerknipe9462 - Every team is going to have tool, every now and then, and Nick White, like Quade Cooper, is a good example. But if you look as some of Australia's golden era players, Matt Burke, John Eales, Matt Giiteau, Larkham etc etc, these guys, who I believe represent the majority of Oz rugby players, were real Gents of the game. I those days you would often bump into the players after the game. They always made time to chat and meet supporters, theirs, and the opposition.

Rugby as a sport and a spectacle peaked in about the early 2010s. Everything since the 2015 World Cup, when England (the hosts) were bounced in the pools and no Six Nations team made the semis, has been a crooked money game favoring the Six Nations and South Africa, since they and their supporters bring the largest share of broadcast revenues.

You guys actually watching rugby anymore? Boring?? Cross field kicks, cheslin kolbe type wingers, Canaan Moodie at center…. France, Scotland, its just as exciting as ever! @@slowjoecrow_ your right! I’m more having a gripe about how shit we are in England right now! 😂. But having said that, the box kicking and caterpillar need to go. And I also think subbing on players should go (unless genuine injury), players should be able to go the full 80. That’s what made it exciting, free flowing running rugby, not giant mutants Doug a driving maul all the way up the pitch or endless penalties at scrums

I call it their "cycle". When you have a team that have played together for a very long time (think the team with Beast, Bakkies, Victor, Schalk, Fourie, Morné, Habana, Jean, Jacque) you often find that they retire/disappear at around the same time. These are guys that know each other so well that they could play with their eyes closed and know where their mates are on the pitch. So when they retire, you have new blood. Guys that don't know each other, that don't know your coaching style, that still need to find their groove with each other. Most teams suffer a dip in form that can last several years before they get built back up to an all conquering machine. Australia reached the semis in 2011 and then the finals in 2015 and there was a Tri Nations or two in there as well. So you can argue that they had a peak ... And they are busy settling into their new cycle. They'll be back and be very good.
