We had 9 months prep with a completely new coaching team and system, we've been fighting a 2 year downturn. Where we have come from without any prep is outstanding! It’s entirely relevant. You can’t choose your draw, but neither has anyone seriously doubted England’s ability to beat Fiji or the other teams in their pool. You’ll only have “proved the doubters wrong” if you make the final by beating one of the highly fancied teams (NZ/SA/IRE/FRA).

Maybe so, but no one sensible would’ve had England finishing behind Argentina and Japan. Progression might not have been a certainty, but nothing is in sport. I tend to think England are doomed to achieve a par result. Given the draw, making the semi had to have been the minimum expectation. But with the Springboks in the way, the final also seems distant. Leaves you in a position where overachieving and underachieving were very long shots indeed. But you’ve earned your place, no doubt about that, and maybe you’ll pull off your first upset of the tournament.

Well I have been one of the critics and I was one of those “ out there” supporting England through thick and thin. There’s been quite a bit of thin in terms of selection but we are there when other vaunted teams are not and the only unbeaten team left, as my son reminded me. This was much more like England of old, more orthodox and defence was much more what was required. Let’s hope Cheslyn Kolbe practises beating someone in a phonebox with a faulty lock, the bomb squad self ignite in the warm up and Etzebeth eats less than red meat pre match. You clearly don’t understand what a contestable box kick is supposed to look like. Daly had a good game and provides a long range kicking option. May too, made a try saving tackle. In the game plan they’re there to pressure box kicks, you can disagree with the plan but not their execution of it. Earl was unreal but curry was very nearly a liability with his discipline. I fully expect him to grow back to his best quickly but it wasn’t an overwhelming positive performance from him.

Bring in Arundell at 15 to at least give us some chance against the springboks. The guy has raw speed and power. Smith is out of place at 15 - great creatively but too small in defence. England probably aren't good enough to win the world cup considering the build up we've had in recent times and what has happened in the professional game in England, however it is staggering how much hate England receive from other nations fans they are consumed with hate and it really hurts them when England win , many are unhinged they are like the Hamas of the rugby world and they can't bring themselves to be objective in any way whatsoever. God help them if England sort out the problems in the professional game because that would mean the national team would be winning a lot of games I'm not sure the haters will be able to cope , i guess they would have to come up with a conspiracy theory to help them cope going forward.
