Im a shooter and the one thing no one ever admits is that no matter how cheap or expensive the weapon or scope is the one main common denominator is the shooter , trigger pull is no excuse for poor shooting in fact trigger pull can tell you how good the shooter is just like a recurve bow and a compound bow , its simple if your skills are weak then strength will expose the bad skills

They both can deliver reliable accuracy if you take the time to find which ammo they prefer.

I have the precursor to the Marlin Model 60, scoped withe a 6 power Weaver scope and it will consistently hold groups the size of a quarter at 50 yards. I have always seen more positive results out of a Marlin Micro groove gun than I have with a Ruger 10/22

I have a Marlin model 60 that I bought in the mid 90's. Back when 550 round bulk pack Federal was less than $10. It still shoots better than the one you tested. (Not knocking your test or skills) I always wanted to get a 10/22 but could never justify it. My Marlin out shot all my friends Ruger 10/22's. It was my squirrel and target rifle that was always with me. I put it away years ago when 22 ammo went thru the roof. Well, I basically forgot about it until a few months ago when I stumbled across it cleaning out a closet. The memories that rifle brought back were enough to dust it off and take it shooting again. Now after years of not hunting I'm back chasing squirrels with my old Marlin. It always shot Federal bulk pack well, and that was my go-to plinking ammo. My hunting ammo of choice was CCI Stingers, but a bunch of squirrels have fallen to bulk pack ammo, when Stingers were not on the shelf. The lack of aftermarket support was always a bummer. One of my shooting buddies tricked out his 10/22 so well, I was almost to the point of breaking camp and pick up a Ruger. Now that I'm shooting again, I'm still on the fence. For now, I'll stick to the old Marlin. If you've made it this far thanks and thank you for the comparison. Even though I wanted the Marlin to win.

Thanks for the comment! I honestly thought i remembered my marlin shooting better than it did on this video. I have another video coming soon where i compare a cheap vs deluxe model 60. I still love these rifles

I sense some bias here because my mid 70s Glenfield is still right on and beat the crap out of my nephews new Ruger.

If you have an older model 60 that is acting up I would suggest your recoil buffer could be the problem.

I believe this is a remington remake of the original glenfield marlin model 60, the old ones were more accurate from what I hear.

I like the Marlin Model 60, for example if you were to lose the magazines for your Ruger 10/22 is the pain in the butt trying to load bullets single shot in the ruger.... if you lose the spring rod for your Marlin Model 60 you can still easily drop a couple rounds in that a time and as long as you don't tilt the barrel down they'll load and fire fine..much easier... I think the Marlin is more accurate and I like the tubular magazine

I own both of these guns and my personal preference is the Marlin model 60, your right the 10/22 has a ton of aftermarket accessory's and they need it the Marlin is an awesome gun right out of the box. the only modifications to each of these guns is a 4x12x40mm scope and a bipod.

I love all my Marlin rifles . Never could justify the extra cost of the Ruger 10/22 over the Marlin model 60 or 70 even though most of my rest of my stuff is Ruger .

You can get super groups with an oem 10/22. First, a higher power scope is a must. Next, have a gunsmith check headspace on the bolt. Have him face the bolt so it is square/perpendicular to the rest of the body. Finally, choose a type of quality ammo and have him face the barrel for a slight jam fit, and push the shoulder of the barrel back respective to the material removed from the face (ex. .0300" off both face and shoulder). The action screw is important. I torque my barrel bands to just 10 inch pounds. You can split the difference in the action screw torque and be more precise. Shoot groups at 10, 20, and 30 inch pounds. The results are self-explanatory. Good luck.

I'm gonna give accuracy and reliability to the Marlin before we get started lol. I own several of both models. Reliability for all my 10/22's sucks at like 70-80% on average, most having a failure every 20-30rds easy with 10rd mags and having a couple failures per magazine using BX15 or 25 mags. My Marlins are 95%+ reliability, with one having no malfunctions since it was bought new in 1994, and running thousands of rounds of every kind of ammo you can buy since then. Accuracy may be much closer though

Marlin will shoot the tightest groups. IDK about the newer 10/22s, but the old ones would shoot 3 to 4 inches at a hundred and the Marlins would 1 MOA.

my marlin 60 hates the winchester ammo the primers don’t always break and double feeds as well as stove pipes made for nearly fifty percent fail.. ran some other no name shit ammo and got a dime sized group at 100 yards using a vortex crossfire ii

You gotta go with high velocity ammo for the Marlin 60. CCI Stinger, the Winchester M22 ammo works very well too...if they still make it.

You can't call AutoMatch Federal Bulk but call Remington Golden Bullets by their designated name. There is an ammo that is Federal Bulk and it comes in a blue box of 750.
@DirtbagOutdoors

There is also a black box of 1100 rounds federal makes. It's all bulk. Golden bullets are far superior to automatch in almost everything

I own two Marlin model 60s semi. semi auto and I own one bolt action*** 22 Marlin *****and I. also own a Ruger American Bolt to action 22 and I own a 1022 Ruger. I like the way Ruger's are built. I like the actor AFTERMARKET support but I love the way the Marlins shoot. They definitely. shoot better than the Ruggers do as far as accuracy outside. of that I like Ruger's better I. use my Ruger's to practice with and beat on but I say and ***preserve my Marlins for hunting****. I want. to I want to keep them fresh and perfect because I know they are super accurate fronting my *****Marlin model 25N *******is the most accurate 22 I've ever shot.!!!!!

I own a Marlin model 60 Glenfield, a Marlin model 25 (bolt), Ruger 10/22, Savage model 64. The model 25 is the oldest, I believe it was manufactured in 77, it shoots better than any of them. And it shoots anything you put in it. I realize a bolt gun is typically more accurate but this has had literally what has to be tens of thousands of rounds through it. Great little gun. Savage is also a very accurate and dependable 22.

Back in November 1979 I paid $49.95 for my 1980 production Marlin Model 60 If I remember correctly .22 ammo was just a little less than .50 cent per box of 50 rounds. I still own the rifle to this day and it is still 100% original I even still have the cheap crappy Tasco scope they were supplied with (it is not in use lol). Mine has the squirrel stock with the rough rider badge in it. I wonder what it's current monetary value is but no matter what that value is it would take much more that what that is to buy mine from me.

The Marlin mod 60 trigger is arguably the worst design ever. These are terrible triggers, rough long pull, heavy inconsistent break, impossible to fix due to the Rube Goldberg design.
@DirtbagOutdoors
@DirtbagOutdoors 8 ай бұрын
They aren't super crisp or anything but for a squirrel gun, it’s more than adequate. I agree it’s definitely not a target trigger.

@@DirtbagOutdoors After all these years you'd think Marlin would have fixed that. I used to have a mod 60, reliable, accurate I kept it because of the terrible trigger, comparatively it made all my other guns seem like target triggers.
