I recently bought an "All Weather" Ruger 77/22 in 22 Hornet.. has a medium contour stainless barrel-just a little thicker than a sporter barrel. I specifically wanted this rifle, in this caliber, and I searched for quite a while until I found it... Could not be happier with this purchase. I hand load and there is nothing better than being able to load for velocities all the way down to 22 short/long rifle, or all the way up to speeds above the 17HMR-upwards of 3100FPS depending on whether I'm hunting, or how much powder I feel like burning... I shoot mostly the 40gr. PSP Sierra bullets, but have loaded ballistic tip bullets for varmint control as well.

I picked up a 77/22 about a year ago at a local gun store, with the stainless looking finish and a better-than-average walnut stock. It is one heck of a good shooter. I'm sorting through an ejection issue at the moment, but couldn't be more pleased with the gun's accuracy and how it feels in the hands. A quick change out of the trigger spring lightened the pull from 4 3/4 pounds to 3 1/8, and a small .001" shim tightened up the bolt and breech block.

You’re %100 right about the magazines being different I bought my 77/22 used and it took me a while to figure out why the magazine didn’t fit quite right. It had a 10/22 mag. They sure are sweet shooters

Coincidentally 'Gun Mart TV' on You Tube had a comparison between this very Ruger 77-22 and the Tikka T1x yesterday. I have never seen this Ruger up close before. I would really enjoy having one of those in my collect too. What a shame that to see real craftsmanship in gun making is so rare these days.

I purchased one new in 1989. It was manufactured in 1987 I think. Still have it. In 1989 I shot a five shot group at 50 yards using some German target ammo, and that group was .296 inches. Not a bad group at all for a squirrel rifle. Indeed.

Nice video about a great gun. I couldn’t wait to buy a 77/22 when they were first introduced, and bought another years later from a friend. I am confused, though, about the claim that 77/22 and 10/22 magazines won’t work interchangeably. I have some of the former with their flat bottoms (10/22 mag bottoms are curved), but I always use 10/22 mags with both of my 77/22 rifles and have never had any problems.
@1957Shep10 ай бұрын
They do fit, but 77/22 mags don`t always feed reliably when used in a 10/22. Since the 77/22 is a bolt action instead of semi-auto, it`s not as big of an issue in that rifle.
@johnstewart201110 ай бұрын
Okay, good to know. Perhaps I'll do some testing with the 77/22 magazines in a 10/22 just for grins.@@1957Shep
@twowheelinjim617 ай бұрын
The only difference I have found is the profile on the bottom. I usually run 10/22 rotary magazines on the 77/22 with no feeding problems. I’ll even run BX-25 magazines with no reliability issues at all. I’ve had my 77/22 for more than 12 years and still haven’t had feeding issues.

@1957Shep Жыл бұрын
Depends on when they were made. Ruger used to make rifles and revolvers with really good triggers. Used to have a 1970s Super Blackhawk that had a great trigger and an action as smooth as any S&W or Colt. Then some yo-yo at Ruger decided that light triggers were dangerous. In short, the lawyerized the trigger.

The old Rugers seem to be different guns than the new ones. A few people I know have Super Blackhawks. I shot them and decided I wanted one. I found a flattop Blackhawk unconverted 3 screw. Its a completely different firearm. (no unsightly safety warnings either) I guess labor prices went up and Ruger started cutting quality to keep the price of the guns affordable? Also I really like that old weaver scope. I have one on my 222 and it is very quick to use. Holds zero well too.
@1957Shep Жыл бұрын
Not sure how old that scope is. I have had it for about 40 years and it was used when I bought it.

Sir, you have a Ruger BX-1 magazine fitted to your 77/22 which is actually meant for the 10/22, not the JX-1 which is meant for the 77/22. Clue, the rounded features on the bottom of the magazine. The JX-1 has a flat profile on the bottom. I own both rifles and have the appropriate magazines for each one.

I have one that was passed down to me. It’s in bad shape. The stock broke and it’s has some rust spots on it. Is it worth restoring?
@1957Shep14 күн бұрын
Hot blue refinishing can be expensive. Unless it has real sentimental value to you, I would just clean off the rust, get a new stock, and use it. These places will have both original and aftermarket stocks for the 77/22. www.midwayusa.com/ www.gunpartscorp.com/ And Ruger might even still be selling new stocks for the 77/22. It has only been out of production for a few years.
@1957Shep14 күн бұрын
When buying a new stock for a 77/22 make sure you get the right one. There were different models. Not sure if the stock was different between the 22LR and 22 magnum version, but the stock for the 77/22 Hornet was very different.
@Mexicanprince2k2414 күн бұрын
It was my dad’s rifle, he taught me to how to shoot with it. Im going to going to fix it and buy an original stock. I was a bit worried there weren’t many parts available for this rifle. I was looking for a stock on eBay and they’re really expensive.($249 and up) The stock on the links you provided are cheaper, thank you. I have the .22LR model. I read that both the .22LR and magnum have interchangeable stocks. Hornet stock is different.

The older ones were very nice well built and well finished rifles. I have a 77/22 Mag varmint stainless that's well built and is a tack driver. I bought a 77/44 5 years ago in stainless and could not believe all of the unfinished metal inside and the lack of attention to detail in the investment casting and machining. What a piece of junk for nearly $800.00. I sold it last year to soemone that was dying to get it for $1100.00. probably could have got $1200.00 and in my opinin it wasn't worth $400.00
