Great how-to video. I have one suggestion though. When torqueing any threaded items, when ever possible, torque starting in center and work outward in a circular motion. And torque in increments of 1/3 then 2/3 and lastly 3/3. If you have ever had to torque head bolts on an engine, you'll understand my suggestion. Look forward to your next video.

Great video. Only thing I would've added was a thin layer of oil like the factory had between the barrel and the base.

I can’t wait to get my base, rings, and scope for my 6.5. Should be here on the 9th from Midway. I hope I chose the right height rings. I don’t want this any higher than it had to be.

Love the channel man but just one question why would you just not loosen the rings from the bases and just re-torque those? If everything is to spec it should already be level and you don't have to do the hardest part of releveling the scope in the rings?

Thank you for the video. I have mounted my scope on a 20 MOA rail but I can't zero my optic. I am using a laser ammo to bring the first shot to the target and then fine tune it but It doesn't work. If I put the target at 100 yard, I can't see the laser and if I put it in 50 yard, I think it is too closer for 20 MOA. Please advise. Is there something that I am missing?

I would not trust turrets to be level. Level the rifle then use a string and plumb line to align the reticle to the string.

I hear that a lot, and agree. In my experiences it has been good enough.

I would like to have seen if the receiver was flat. I have the same gun and had to bed the factory rail. The rail was loose from the factory. I checked this by installing the rear screws first and noticed a gap under the front of the base. If you tighten the front screws the base will pull down and no longer be flat. After bedding it was nice and flat.

The locking nuts on the rings should be on the other side of action. Looks cleaner and adds in obstruction of chamber and work area.

I'm going to disagree with you on that. I believe that there is no right or wrong side. In my experiences putting them on the other side creates a snag point as this is the side of the rifle that contacts you as you carry it. This is just my personal preference.

I know this is old an all, but why take the rings and scope apart from each other if you're just changing the base ?, why not just take the rings from the base and leave the scope and ring caps alone ?. Is there a reason why you torqued the outer screws for the base first and not the inner screws ?.

Why take scope out of rings? Just take unit off of the rail as one piece.

ok sorry for the newbie question but i really don't understand why you replaced the rail and then put everything back exactly in the same spot. What's the purpose of the new rail then? ETA: ok I didn't watch the video to the end when i commented above. You explained yourself at the end and now I understand. I think. I'm still new to firearms. but thanks. btw i've watch a bunch of your videos and they are excellent. keep up the good work. you've convinced me to buy a RAR Predator also.

The new rail adds 20 MOA adjustment to the scope. With the stock rail my scope could only dial 42 MOA. With the new rail I can dial 62 MOA. It points the scope downward. Does that make since?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 7 жыл бұрын
Now I have decided that the 20MOA Rail is not enough. I plan on shooting a mile in the near future, So probably next week I am going to change the rings out for a set to add another 30 MOA. So I should be able to dial 92 MOA on the scope. IT NEVER ENDS. Just when I think I'm done, I need something else.

I almost went with the same rail on my 6.5 Stealth. I decided against it and went with the Burris Signature XTR rings since you can gain an additional 40 MOA.

I'm late to the party on this video, but wouldn't you want the higher side of the 20MOA rail on the front?? That way your zero is towards the bottom of the in-scope MOA adjustment...? Or am I missing something?
@tscotts9699
@tscotts9699 4 жыл бұрын
The lower side goes forward so the muzzle naturally angles upward (scope angles downward) giving you that 20 MOA of compensation. Raising the front end of the scope would achieve the opposite of the intended effect.
@BobbyOfEarth

You didn't cover this so I'm assuming that since we just lowered the bullet impact by 20 MOA at 100 yds, we'd need to add 20 MOA rise on the scope elevation adjustment to achieve our original zero.
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I didn't mention anything about re-zeroing the rifle. I dialed 20 MOA and it was just about perfect on elevation, then I made a small windage adjustment and I was on.
@evansmith2279

By pointing the scope down with a 20 moa rail the impact is raised by 20 moa. The purpose of this is to add range.
@BIGPAPDOG480
@BIGPAPDOG480 4 жыл бұрын
The bullet impact is raised 20 moa so you dial down to zero at one hundred giving an extra 20 now to dial up

They are great rails. Top of the line. I have them on most of my rifles. If you have no plans on longer range shooting, the 0 is fine.

why not just throw the rail out and buy a one piece scope ring with 20 moa built in and bolt straight to the reciever ?

In order to dial up enough for a mile, I had the 20 MOA base and also had to get the Burris Signature Rings that added another 36 MOA. I can dial 98 MOA on the scope now.

Where did you get the 65 inch-pounds recommendation at the base? In all my experience it's 25 inch-lbs. That's a big number - 65... And, the pressure of the rings on the scope should generally be no more than 18 inch-lbs. Just from everything I've read.
@Camzilla0
@Camzilla0 3 жыл бұрын
He probably got it from the box. manufacturer's usually put the recommended torque specs on the box. My Athlon rings required 65-inch lbs for the bolts that hold the rings to the rail and 18-20 inch lbs for the scope tube.

How does pitching the scope down help? I think pitching the scope up would help with getting more elevation for longer shots. Please explain
@markwilson5354
@markwilson5354 3 жыл бұрын
By the scope being angled down makes the gun barrel tipped upwards so now when you sight in at 100 yards you will have to turn you elevation down adding a additional 20 moa of elevation adjustment for longer range
