i bought a new Remington and its lights out with 7mm. Im talking 2024. You are right the old actions are smoother than a tikka hand down. New rems gave a 5 spiral barrel instead of 3. Its a .277 group at 200yds it has no threaded barrel. It does have a Timney trigger and hs stock. Other than that Bergara wins vs all these manufactures. I have a premier... These are the guns 15yrs from now we will talk about.. Price on Bergara will go up trust me. New rems are more accurate but you need the long range one or a 700 plus remington for it to be ok...in that case Bergara everytime... over seekens, christensen fierce..... Bergara everytime.

I have a Rem 700, .223, 26” barrel. It drives tacks. Couldn’t stand the bolt handle so my machinist fabricated a tactical bolt handle for me. I added a Timney, Calvin Elite trigger. The bolt face was machined by GreTan Rifles and a firing pin bushing was added. It sits in an Oryx Chassis. So you can see, the best part of the factory rifle was the barrel :-)

Thank you for the review and comparison. At the price point, the Ruger Gen II is very intriguing with the fluted barrel and adjustable comb. I understand what you are saying about the Remington 700 not having a free-floated barrel. Remington was very committed to the contact between stock and barrel at the tip. I ordered a couple rifles from the Remington Custom Shop in Sturgis, S.D. (before the bankruptcy) and they were not free-floated. I was shocked. Fortunately, they shoot lights out. All the best.

IMO if you want something to throw an optic on and a sling for hunting i would go with the ruger. if you want a rifle you can build off of I would go with the R700. I know remington came a long way from there safety/trigger problems that caused a huge amount of problems and lawsuits but unfortunately for me i would swap the trigger to a timney. which i have done to my R700 aac-sd.

If you want to modify and upgrade your rifle the Remington has more options. Boyds have great stocks for both rifles, but for other upgrades Remington has more options. If you are wanting savings and are not going to modify the rifles the Ruger is the way to go. With the savings you can put it towards a better scope.

See alot of comments about Tikka. Ruger gen ii is about $170-$200 cheaper than the cheapest Tikka. That is for a base T3 Lite, with no barrel fluting or threaded muzzle. It does include a dull, cheap black stock for that extra money. I've had two Tikkas and they are a great rifle, but you can't beat this new Ruger for the money. I am about sold on getting one now, but I think I am going to opt for the Predator version to get the extra 2 inches of barrel length. IMO

I recently purchased a Remington 700 sps, 22 inch barrel with Magpul Hunter stock in 6.5 creed for 756.00 from Bud's Guns. It shoots .5 M.O.A. all day long and that creep in the trigger is so suttle, you really have to be paying attention to even feel it. It was obvious you favored the savage from the beginning from the way you spoke about each gun. I also own a Savage model 11 in .308. It shoots good groups but not like the 700 does.
@UltimateArms10 ай бұрын
thats not a savage its the ruger. i dont favour one or the other. both have a creepy trigger. and that was mentioned in the video. i find the remington is more heavier, which would make it, a good range rifle, but the ruger would be more of a hunting rifle. thats what the comparison was geared too. as in the video, as i said. either one is a good rifle, for certain things. thanks for the comment. and no i dont favour one over the other.
@tompanek75117 ай бұрын
In order to get the most out of either gun they need upgrades. 1. New triggers 2. Better stocks 3. Easy tuner breaks Accuracy and functionality will be dramatic. Use bags instead of bipods I don’t know why gun makers don’t just make a gun that only needs optics only. If ya go cheap this is what you need to do eventually.
@UltimateArms7 ай бұрын
maybe but the reason for the comparision is to see if they both shoot out of the box as a hunting rifle. without the upgrades. when i get one or the other, i intend it to be a hunting rifle no more no less. if it shoots good out of the box, as a hunting rifle when the the upgrades.

All the complaints with a 700 that hasn’t changed in YEARS. Top loading is way better because you cannot lose magazines. The bolt throw is literally a learning curve. I happen to love the 90 degree bolt throw. And lastly you can do anything to a 700. A Ruger is pretty much a Ruger and not much can change and it’s not worth changing. Again depends what you want. But the things people complain about is just plain annoying. Most of the stuff does not matter whatsoever. How the gun shoots is what counts and the 700s almost always shoot. And if they don’t a few tweaks and it will be a great shooter

The RUGER gen. 2 EVERY time! RUGER gives you a good trigger, an EXCELLENT cold hammer forged accurate barrel and a very nice and fast 3 lug bolt. I hate Remington's triggers, their 2 lug bolt, and there crappy, cheap extractor. Plus, ever try to disassemble a Rem. 700 bolt? 👎
@UltimateArms7 ай бұрын

The 90 degree bolt lift is a joke now that scopes are ubiquitous. I generally won’t even consider buying a rifle with a 90 degree lift, but I do have a couple older Vanguards and a Remington. The lack of a locking bolt is also a miss for me in a hunting rifle. I think Ruger did a great job on the Gen 2, in particular with value.
