Hey mate.. Ya can buy the metal bottom plate for the howa mini. Mamba mags...I think.. Did read somewhere the plastic plates on Howas are only good for 35 inch pounds of torque...yeh not much. .. they break. Howa has the zippy bolt. The factory rail and threaded muzzle are the wins for Ruger. Good vid cheers.

Thanks mate. You can get replacement alloy bottom metals that fit the Howa mags but I wanted a Stanag/M16 mag rifle. Also I've had 5 Howas and none had zippy bolts. Not all of them were super smooth to start with but certainly no zip. Threaded muzzles are realistically needed for short barreled and heavy recoiling rifles. Actually as far as hunting goes I don't see the point of muzzle breaks at all. All they do is send you and anyone around you deaf quicker or as in my case deafer. They have become a real fad. Sure if you are competing at long range and you need to see bullet travel/impact I can understand the need to mitigate recoil but I am not a huge fan of them. Also I prefer the Hogue stock on the Howa over the Tupperware Ruger which is a problem because stock options for the Ruger are few and not cheap. Cheers mate.

@@gobangs1117 Nah I just meant in comparing the 16inch versions of the Ruger and Howa...no threaded barrell for the Howa, not a big deal but it's gonna shoot flames like you say. Loading with a fast burner will mitigate some unburnt propellant though. My Howa stainless in .308 is machined extremely well, but my howa mini is zippy. Don't mind the Hogue stock either but was touching one side of the barrel at the end of the forend.

Josh from "Into The Night" has taken a lot of feral animals with his Ruger American Ranch rifle. Mossberg MVP Patrol also takes standard AR mags.

I cracked my bottom plate and definitely did not over-tighten. I believe that plate will not take the recommended torque setting anyway. They match a piece of absolute crap plastic to a beautiful stainless barreled action. What were they thinking? My heavy barreled mini action 223 now sits in an Oryx rifle chassis which does justice to the quality of the barreled action.
