Modestly priced, the Ruger RPR’s performance is anything but. In fact, it’s a standout. There was a time at Vortex when it seemed a new RPR would show up daily. The accuracy, performance and price were simply too good not to own one. Mark Boardman, Jimmy Hamilton, and Ryan Muckenhirn chat through this anomaly in the firearm space and why it’s so dang good.

I made the mistake of shooting my $1000 RPR side by side with my $4000 custom. Using the same factory ammo in both, the RPR printed the smallest group that day.

I don't have a custom action, I know custom actions are nicer because of how smooth the action is but but then my RPR 6.5prc shoots half an inch always and thus can't justify building a custom rifle. I do have a 7prc in ruger american go wild that I dropped in an mdt and it shoots the same. Ruger makes shooter.

I walked out of the store with an RPR in 6,5CM + 5-25 PST Gen II for $2500 and I was shooting < 1/2 MOA with factory ammo and hitting steel out to 1000yds. All my buddies that have never shot steel at range call it "cheating" the first time behind it. Thank you Ruger for bringing us the RPR and pissing off the Gucci Gun fanbois.

Amen twin brother from another mother. I was in a thread in a forum and royally teed off some gucci bougies. I shared a pic of my TC Compass II in .308 shooting what looked like a 1/2" spread. Factory synthetic stock with 150 gr, which turned to be light and not the best for that gun (165 gr worked better.) Right out of the box, Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24X50 FFP on it (later changed to a Vortex Venom.) So, the other guy decides to call my gun garbage, my chosen cartridge garbage, and my optic garbage. He did a digital measured analysis. It was actually .54 inches apart. Understandable since I had used a Stanley tape measure and could certainly be off by .04 inches, which is not measurable without a caliper at the time. That is .51 MOA. Out of a 400 dollar rifle. So, I backed down and let them have the "win" of proving that my crap rifle and system were punching up and out of my "league." Any rifle is going to do better in a chassis because of the bedding. So, bravo to Ruger for figuring it out.

buddy of mine from work picked up a CZ 457 Varmint Precision 24" last summer. he was bragging how well his $1k 22lr rifle shot small groups at 50 yards. he kept begging me to bring my Ruger Precision 22lr to test both rifles side by side. using the same ammo my $400 Ruger shot the exact same group as his rifle. he was peeved to say the least.

I have the RPR in 6mm Creedmoor. It was .5 moa after initial load development and would hold .5 out to 1000 yards when the wind cooperated and I did my part. After 2500-3000 rds groups opened up to .75 with pretty regular flyers. I replaced the barrel with a high end carbon fiber and initial load development yielded a solid .25 moa! I swapped the barrel myself- the first barrel I have ever removed or installed. I have shot many groups at 1000 sub .5 moa. Nuts right? Oh yeah, I paid $799 for it new

True story.. I went from casual 1911 carrying hobby shooter to FFL SOT selling adapter plates for Vortex to Canik at Panik Solutions and the RPR was a catalyst to meet people who were real shooters without the BS and the blind culture. One dedicated RPR/Vortex fan I met at that time is one of my best friends and now works at SilencerCo. These are not horribly uncommon tales in some small way. The influence of this rifle to the home rifleman cannot be over stated and gun an accessories makers should take note on the approach of inclusive pricing and engineering for EFFECTIVE (without significant functional quality sacrifice) cost savings.

This not an RPR testament, but a rifle build testament. Having watched vids of "KZbinrs" shoot 1" or less with ARs, I wanted mine to do the same. I'd already embarrassed a equipment snob with my entry level AR but the best I can get with it is about 1.5" groups. So I built another one, for about $1k total. Yeah, a few lessons learned. However, now I do have an AR that can, for me, print 0.5" groups. While at the range, of course I meet several others practicing and such. I don't claim any profound talent behind a rifle and one gentleman demonstrated a great deal of knowledge and skill. We had talked, gave me some pointers and such. I, being happy with what I'd built, wondered "How well can it shoot?". So during a break to let barrels cool, I asked if he'd mind putting a few rounds down range with my rifle. He shot a 3 round clover leaf and said "It's a shooter!" In hind sight I think he was irritated because a home built AR was printing better than his more expensive bolt action. We never found the problem with his rifle, but I was printing the same size groups with his that he was. Take aways? Try not to assume anything. Don't forget common courtesy. Do your best to keep an open mind, you might learn something.

When it comes to the RPR everything good you said about this rifle on your show I'm in complete agreement with. I've had mine for several years now and the rifle never ceases to amaze me. I tried a fair number of handloads to see what worked best and I'd have to say they all worked great, some just a bit better. I settled on the 140 gr. ELD and I have several 100 yard targets hanging in my shop showing five shots through the same hole. I'm not into long distance shooting as a sport but while varmint shooting I have no trouble making 400+ yard shots without a problem. For glass I have a Vortex Viper 6-24x50 MRAD and that has turned out to be an excellent choice for this rifle. Great rifle, great scope.

Got the RPR in both 6.5CM and .22LR and love them, with a Vortex Venum on both of them. Only managed to shoot the 6.5 at 900yds so far, but shooting the .22LR at 300yds was a fun (but successful) challenge. Would be nice if the .22L had the same style stock as the centrefire, as it's annoying having to drop the cheek piece if I want to remove the bolt, but that obviously would have ramped up the price.

OK guys I know lever guns aren’t platforms for expensive scopes, but you need to do a show on the new Mayodan made Marlins. Ruger bought Marlin out of the scrap heap Remington had become and built a new factory to make the guns right. And it shouldn’t be a surprise that new Marlins are surprisingly accurate for lever action rifles. (See what I did there? 😂)

And that’s about the only upgrade. It is not fussy when comes to bullets ether.

I have been head over heels for this platform since the very first time my work pardner showed it to me all those years ago. It had to come out after I had said my I do’s, so thusly I did not, even at the fantastic value it represents. I was fortunate enough to cross paths with a fellow who wanted to divest himself of a Gen 3 RPR in .308. I’ll be the first to admit that it is not the ballistic darling of the ball, but dang if it doesn’t get the windows steamy all the way around the calendar. I have it all set up and ready for it’s maiden flight with me to the range which is yet to come. I have to confess though that I haven’t played with anything this much without taking it to the bank since I was fifteen years old. 😂 Ruger smashed the hell out of all the preconceptions with this platform. Until they brought this to the market you couldn’t play the long range game for less than 3k minimum, and that was just the beginning. This made every man not just Walter Middy with a gun but a potential contender. Ruger actually shifted the paradigm off the edge of the page. As you mentioned in your video, Vortex simultaneously either by kismet or Divine intervention brought the right toppings for the cake as the market was heating up. Kudos to whoever is driving your bus! You three are rapidly becoming some of my favorite generators of topical videos. Always on point and invariably bringing the past to the present to face the future. Keep up the good work and I look forward to sharing the product of my personal process with this platform with you. I loved the truthful sarcasm/stories when referring to hunting rifles. Sloppy rear mount, not the best scope, still getting sub MOA shots, and with witnesses ta boot. I think every hunter/shooter should hone their skills to have a sub MOA shot, with not the best equipment; that builds confidence, and confidence is a big part in getting that perfect shot because you're not doubting/worrying/wondering about your kit. I own an Axis II PR (first PR I've purchsed) and achieved consistent sub MOA groups within 30 minutes of the first fired round. I'm in the process of purchasing a RPR in 308 and can't wait to put some rounds downrange with it. The way these PR's are being manufactured, there really isn't any excuse for not being able to achieve a sub MOA group every time you go shooting; at least related to your kit that is. Great videos guys, keep up the good work.

@VortexNation yeah!? The shooter didn't think he killed him because the varmint had enough juice to run to his hole. We confirmed the kill on the drive out. Checked the hole domed dead varmint just inside. I think the was a 3+ mil wind hold. Used a Vortex Razor 4000 to range the shot.

I wouldn't say the Rimfire version is the "exact same gun" at all. The stock is a flimsy piece of plastic that's molded into the chassis and is barely adjustable enough for a full size adult male. If they had used the same chassis or similar (with obvious changes for the 10/22 mags) but cheapened the stock up on the rimfire version that would have been awesome and would have let end users set them up exactly the same. Instead, they molded the stock into the chassis and it flexes sideways if you look at it funny. The Rimfire version has very little aftermarket support compared to the standard version too if that tells you anything.

Never been a Ruger fan, but a year ago I was wanting a bolt 22lr and after looking at several, I still kept going back to the Ruger Precision 22 due to cost of a 22 rifle and the adjustability. I still despise the accu trigger, crisp break but hate the flipper. May change to aftermarket 2-stage in the future. But, unbelievable accuracy! Once I found the loads it likes, it will shoot 15 shot ragged hole groups at 75 yrds

Just got my RPR rimfire recently. Only took it to 50 yards so far but I was amazed at the accuracy. Aguila 40g and a Diamondback HP 3-9x40 had me shooting in the same dime sized hole consistently

@@CaptainCranch - I tried approx 12 different 22 loads shooting 15 rnd groups at 75 yrds. It is crazy accurate with Eley club 40 gr, very good with Eley target 40 gr, but that is expensive ammo to shoot all of the time. The best I have found "so far" for my rifle that is affordable is Aguila 40 gr Super Extra, it will shoot 15 shot ragged hole groups all day.

Most accurate Rifle I have owned thus far and in 6.5 Creedmoor with originally a Vortex Venom till I craved an illuminated center. Shot cloverleafs in the X ring at 200 yards with handloads or Norma Match in 140gr... Even likes AAC BTHP, which comes cheaper than I can reload....

I purchased the special edition RPR 6.5 in red for $1600.00. I made a couple of upgrades, a straight grip, a new bolt shroud, and an upgraded trigger, although the original is decent. I find the sock just fine for me. The damn thing shoots light out. I think it is the short action and a great barrel. This is the foundation upon which Ruger will build a moxie competitor. I love it. I do not question why my Ruger tack drives a smaller group than my buddies Accuracy International: AT-X, a $4300 PR. He was incredulous...and somewhat pissed.
