I was a LEO back in the 70's and reminiscing about our experiences with a co-worker. He told me of a time when he was confronted at about 12 feet by a man who shot him in the left thigh with a .380. It turned him a quarter turn and took his leg out from under him. He did manage to return fire with a S&W 29, which ended the encounter. But he admitted being very surprised by the effect of being hit like that by a .380. He was about 6'1' and in great shape, too. Personally, I can't think of a particular caliber I would choose to let someone shoot me with.

In the real world of real people , whose job doesn’t revolve around their “EDC” gun, pocket pistols are frequently carried for self defense. The 380 at realistic gunfighting range will get the job done and save your life if you do your part. This is my favorite carry pistol. I've carried it daily for over 3 years and I love it. I shoot it every time I visit the range and I've grown to be very accurate with it. I highly recommend the M*Carbo trigger spring kit which cuts the trigger weight in half, as well as the rubber Hogue grip which allows for a much better hold on such a small gun. I upgraded from the factory 6 round mags to the factory 7 round mags which give you a little more pinky room. I also recommend Precision One hollow point ammo, as it seems to be the most consistent preformer according to the .380 Ammo Quest video series. Thanks for the video! It's cool to see this gun still getting love after the release of the LCP Max.

Also, the rounds were ejecting up and over my head directly behind me. Is that normal in your experience? Two landed directly on top of my head.

@@buddditchendorf1847 yes mine did that too, and from what I understand that's quite common. KZbin search "Ruger 380 extractor problem fix". I did the minor amount of filing suggested in that video and it completely solved that problem. Also, since my last comment I started having issues with the 7 round mags so I don't use them anymore. I'd recommend sticking to the Ruger 6 rounders. I also have had a few problems with the MCarbo trigger spring kit where one of the springs pops out of place occasionally when firing causing the gun to become completely inoperable. I've since switched my carry gun but I plan on putting the factory springs back in at some point and hopefully that will alleviate the problem. Quite the bummer cause the lighter trigger was so nice!

Thank you 411 Outdoors LLC. Excellent video! I've been carrying since 1996 when it became legal in Texas. I've messed around with larger caliber pistols but sooner or later would start leaving the big heavy ones behind on occasion. Number one rule of a gun fight is to have a gun. I went to the LCP about 3 years ago. Like the Kel-Tec P3AT I carried before (they are virtually identical), it's ALWAYS in my right front pocket. I like the Desantis pocket holster. The LCP2 is more popular and is definitely better at the range with better sights and a lighter trigger. The sights are meaningless in an actual combat situation and the lighter trigger is a big negative in my opinion. Same reason I don't like Glocks. It's too easy to accidentally fire it when drawing. A trigger safety is really no safety at all. In a combat situation, I promise you won't notice the long trigger pull. Concealed carry must be a compromise if you want to be armed at all times. Newbies always insist "it's not uncomfortable at all". I smile to myself when I hear that nonsense. I'd like to tote the M-60 I carried in Vietnam, but it's not very comfortable.

I carry this gun often. I do recommend very highly the Hogue grip made specifically for the LCP 380. It pins to the frame and covers the empty space at the back of the mag well after the plastic Mag well cap is removed. It helps very much with the grip and recoil.

I recently purchased the basic black Ruger LCP 380. I had sold my LCPII a few months ago due to the trigger being "too light" for me to carry in my pocket with a round in the chamber. Nothing wrong with the gun itself, the light trigger just bothered me. The Ruger LCP Max interested me with it's increased round count, however, at age 73 I am a senior on a very limited income and I could not justify paying twice as much for the Max than the basic black LCP 380. I bought two extra 6 round mags so 18 rounds of 380 go out the door with me everyday.

Im so glad you reviewed this gun. I bought this pistol for $200 almost 5 years ago and I just like to watch people shoot my guns when I can't 😆. Id like to recommend a couple of upgrades I did to mine: i attached a pocket clip so that I can clip it inside my waist band like a pocket knife. I also put a Hogue grip making it so much easier to hold on to (i had to cut the grip to accommodate the belt clip.) And lastly i ordered extended magazines (+1) so the mag extends the grip and now I have 1 extra bullet just in case. People trash talk these little guns but I'm glad to see you shoot yours as well as I shoot mine. Within 21 feet i feel pretty comfortable carrying this thing. Its so light I can clip it to my pajama pants or basketball shorts and the printing is minor and I barely feel like Im wearing it. I do NOT carry this gun chambered. I know people are gonna hate me for that and they should! I personally dont want a dog or small child to accidentally snag that trigger with a paw or foot and next thing you know Im facing charges when all I wanted to do was go to church. Plus my carry style is appendix so jumping dogs and kids are always at that height level. Unless you're expecting to be attacked 24/7, maybe just train yourself how to draw and cock your pistol, run some drills. Gun safety is too important to walk around like you're in a warzone fully loaded. Plus having kids in my home, none of my guns are chambered and ready to fire unless its a revolver but those are far from kiddos... actually only 2 of my pistols have a safety 😆 and they're both 22lrs, just saying carrying chambered isnt practiced in my house and that's okay, especially when your guns dont have a safety switch.

My LCP is a great reliable firearm never had a single malfunction and I can shoot a paper plate at 10 or 15 yards consistently, I've even stretched out to 20 yards and make good shot placement, I did upgrade to the aluminum Mcarbo trigger and granulate talon grips but I kept all the springs stock because I don't want to reduce reliability on a primer strike, I love my LCP and it would be the last gun I ever get rid of. I have it on me 24/7. I have the factory 6 round magazines and the factory 7 round magazines which I highly recommend. I use a 68 grain extreme defender ammunition from underwood ammo the function great and pack a serious punch for a 380 i suggest checking out some ballistic videos with that specific 380 ammo in a short barrel pistol. I train with mine at minimal once per month and it's a great shooter.

Hi I just purchased the s&w bodyguard 2.0 for my wife. She cannot not rack it at all. Is this one a lot easier to rack? Thanks for any reply/help.

People used to berate the original LCP for the trigger. ThTs why I bought the Custom. Guess what , the trigger feels exactly the same. I’ve fired both one in each hand. Customs sights better higher and easily snagged. The standard has lower sights which don’t snag. Tomato / tomAto as far as I am concerned both are fine. A 7 shot mag makes it very much more comfortable and Hogue grips are another thing you really will appreciate your hand in particular. I’ve had mine 8 years and it’s all I need. Best of all it’s got a trigger i can truest that’s as good as a revolver.

What bullets do you recommend? I had one and tried magtech bullets and only 5 would fit in the clip

What does "no built-in safety feature" mean? I'm about to purchase my first gun, and someone recommended this one.
@411Outdoors10 ай бұрын
It just means there’s no buttons to click to activate a safety. The only safety is keeping your finger off the trigger and the muzzle in a safe direction.
@Brian-oc8fj10 ай бұрын
A gun having a safety or not is almost a 'religious' discussion of whether to insist a carry pistol has one, or it definitely should not have one... (or have a safety and not utilize it, or to carry one in the chamber or have to rack it before shooting). People have strong opinions one way or the other and you probably aren't going to convince them they are wrong. Note also the Ruger LCP while it has no manual safety, it is double action, the trigger pull with one chambered is quite long and heavy to prevent accidentally pulling the trigger (similar to a revolver, which also have no safety). Note the LCP II and LCP Max the hammer is back and ready to fire so I would not personally carry either of them loaded with one in the chamber ready to fire.

I have the new Bodyguard 2.0 but the sights suck! I also have the original LCP. In that gun I put the Mcarbo trigger kit, to include a new recoil spring, trigger spring, hammer spring, and firing pin spring along with the flat trigger…made all the difference! I also bought two 7 round mags…it’s my gym and suit carry. I also had the LCP 2…nothing but problems…mag popped out after every shot and I tried everything to get it to work…also had the LCP Max…too bulky to be a true pocket carry (for me) and it rattled like a rattlesnake with a hammer fall that sounded like a toy gun. The original LCP is the winner in my book. Hopefully, the market will produce better sights for the Bodyguard 2.0

I’m a petite woman and have a 9 mm Ruger, and was considering getting this model but I don’t like the recoil on my current one. I LOVE how the 380 Ez shoots but want something more compact. Is there something you would recommend that gives less recoil but is also compact?
@411Outdoors8 ай бұрын
I can’t really think of anything smaller than this other than a deringer but I fear that kicks too much and it usually just allows two rounds
@brwnbarbie248 ай бұрын
@@411Outdoors I’m not looking for anything smaller than this. I just want something compact but with low recoil. The Smith and Wesson 380 Ez is enjoyable for me to shoot with but it’s bigger than a 9 mm. I wanted something with a similar feel but smaller than the 380.

What's your thoughts on leaving a magazine loaded over extended time periods?

I’ve always heard (and believed) if you have quality ammo and quality magazines and they’re properly stored. You can keep them that way as long as you want to.

I bought one of these a couple weeks ago. Thought it would be nice when anything bigger won’t work. Well I’m not so sure about that now. At 15-20 feet I can’t hit nothing. I’m not sure it’s safe unless the target is on top of me.
@411Outdoors6 ай бұрын
It’s definitely a close range weapon. I hit my targets in the video pretty successfully add around 10 to 15 feet I think I know exactly what you’re talking about those far as distance.

I noticed you changed out the plastic takedown pin for an aluminum one. That is the only weak point I have found in this pistol. Great pistol. Don’t let the so called experts tell you a 380 is too weak. I am 71 years old with arthritis in my hands. I would rather carry my LCP that I can shoot well than a 9mm I may not be able to hold

I just purchased one, (Cabelas listed price is very reasonable $219.00) plus, it's very light weight, which was my Full reason for purchase, Ankle holster, (extremely conceal) and comfortable. My Ruger Max9, hidden in my gut neoprene holster, is very uncomfortable. I prefer the belt holster, but that's not an option in public now a day's. Also, concerning the Ruger LCP, I don't like the fact that there is no safety, therefore I will never keep a bullet in the chamber. That's my personal safety preference. Honestly, I pray I never use this pistol. It's just for peace of mind. Like you stated, it's better then No gun at all.

Another reviewer claims that the back end of the slide has 2 very sharp points and when firing the gun it will cut your hand. Did you find this when you fired the gun? I see your grip with both hands is below the slide and at from the point of contact mentioned by the other reviewer. Thank you👍🏼

The Glock 43X is a good subcompact for every day carry with a little more power🙂👍
@Brian-oc8fj10 ай бұрын
I had the Glock 43X as my carry firearm since it came out. However after ~250 rounds I never got comfortable OR accurate enough with it to have confidence in it. Whether that was due to it being my first Glock or 9mm I don't know. Last year I test fired a new Ruger Security 380 and loved it so much I sold the Glock and bought it. Super accurate with it and almost no recoil, and holds 10 or 15 rounds. That sold me on 380 caliber, and the Ruger Security 380 is the exact same physical size pistol as the Glock 43X. I have now also got a Ruger LCP, for pocket carry concealment when desired. It has a little more kick, but not bad and I was pleased to get 10 of 10 in the target circle at 15' the first time shooting it. Plus only having 1 caliber to shoot makes it easier on buying one type of ammo and no mistakes then can happen on loading a 380 bullet in a 9 mm magazine. Both of these Rugers have been super reliable, no feeding or any issues at all. (And both these guns together add up to the cost of one Glock 43X!).

I know where you’re coming from👍 a good holster that allows you to keep your finger off. The trigger easily is definitely the way to go.

The revolver like trigger is the safety. You will not accidently pull the trigger on an LCP.

Good video dude. I love mine. I have a shield but I carry my lcp a lot still, easy to fit in the pocket or hide in said pocket at work. I think it looks great, like a mini PPK. Same capacity as the PPK too. If a person trains with it a few times they can definitely turn it into a tack driver. I hate to sound like a douche, but I’m very accurate with it 😂.

I do have a question. I carry this gun for my protection but since it doesn't have a safety feature I do not carry one in the chamber. I feel like that puts me at a disadvantage if I truly need to use it. I was told " just pull the trigger twice and it will load itself and fire" is that true? Should I just keep one in the chamber?
@411Outdoors Жыл бұрын
I can totally understand your apprehension for keeping one in the chamber, but my training has revealed overtime how necessary it is for the real world because it improves accuracy and time. As long as you have a good holster and keep your finger on the trigger, you’ll be fine.
