My trick is a big 12-in crescent wrench. Wrap it A shop towel barrel end down in the vise. Cover the jaws of your crescent wrench and electrical tape and tighten them down on the sight as tight as you can get it (You don't really want friction, you just want the Jaws flat against the sides) now take your Hammer of choice and hit the flat hole part of the crescent wrench where the gear comes out when it's open wide. You should be able to hammer perfectly sideways against It without having to worry about scratches.

I just got a ruger mark iv tactical Saturday. I tried a sight pusher but the barrel kept rolling. I doubled wrapped an old towel around it in my vice. I used a small brass punch and hammer. It didn't take that much force to move it. Once it started to move, it was very easy. Perhaps it has a very slight taper. I guess I got lucky.

@@SVTBansheeman there is no taper.

Thanks for the video. I was wondering if maybe you were trying to push sight out in the wrong direction? Is there any taper to the dovetail?
@arboyd81 Жыл бұрын
It does not matter which direction. The dovetail is not tapered or, otherwise, just a plain dovetail.
@TKevinBlanc9 ай бұрын
@@arboyd81 That's different from the Ruger 10/22 (and I think most guns). I measured my 10/22 with a caliper and it definitely required driving out from the left (non-chamber opening) side, and driving in from the right. (chamber opening side). If you drove it out with the barrel in the vice as it is, you were pushing from the wide side into the narrow.

It is not directional. Call ruger if you do not believe me...or ask your local gunsmith they will verify.

And "most dovetail pressed sights are not directional...they are all friction fit.

@@arboyd81 Okay. The reading I did says differently. But I've only done it a couple of times, so I could be wrong. Maybe the 10/22 is the exception.

What size and type were the two set screws on the rear factory sight? I can’t see down the hole and I don’t want to strip the threads. Thanks!

Aren’t you supposed to move left to right when removing and right to left to install?
@arboyd818 ай бұрын
Not on this gun. The sight is not directional, nor is the milling in the gun. That is why it's engineered with set screws. Left to right is mostly for gun pins etc but some sights are made as such, and if so, it will be noted by the manufacturer of the gun and the sight itself.

I’m sure you are correct. I pushed mine out left to right and it came out easily. Maybe I got lucky.

i'd love to know where you got the front and rear sight.. also; do you happen to have shot a full magazine whlist the gun is in a vice/clamp/rest to test accuracy of the pistol?
@arboyd8110 ай бұрын
It's a HiViz front and rear. Links are as follows Front Sight amzn.to/48HdPKQ Rear Sight amzn.to/3Sbao8n Pistol is dead accurate with these sights and far superior to any choice on the market! Plus, this gun is fully modified with all available volquartsen parts. So it will outshoot most all casual shooters' abilities.

@@arboyd81 thanks! Also looking into that kit, just without the trigger (i want to install the flat faced victory trigger from tandemkross to go with the accurizing kit)

@TheDutchShepherd Man...thatvtrigger from TK is just for looks, really. I get the flat face craze... but trust me, the Volquartsen is the only way to go!!! Full adjustment with the Volquartsen. I have mine set to very slight movement, and it truly reduced my times. Buy the full kit, including the bolt tune, and you will not be disappointed! I would never run TK trigger over Volquartsen.
@arboyd8110 ай бұрын
@TheDutchShepherd Also, you only have over travel scew with the TK and nothing for take up. That makes for a sloppy trigger...like I said just for looks.
