Thanks for this video. I need to drift out the rear sight on my 22/45 and figure it's always better to know what you're up against before attempting a project.

I believe you remove the old one out the right side and install the new one from the right side also.

This replacement sight sure looks like it was worth the time and effort. Would be nice to hear if you noticed an improvement in your accuracy with it.

Sighted in yesterday. Very nice. It was a bright sunny day & the sights glowed almost a bit too much for target shooting but I am also "getting used to them" Would recommend to anyone with my old stock type sights.
@petercarey68833 жыл бұрын
Thank you Froggy. Keep your sights on the target and keep shooting straight.😉 Oh yeah, a question for you. Do you by any chance do any re-loading?
@1947froggy3 жыл бұрын
@@petercarey6883 No, save some brass but not reloading. :)

For faster type shoots/ followups, yes. On a bench rest, same.

Should i use steel punches or the brass ones?
@SVTBansheeman2 ай бұрын
Brass. It's softer than steel and won't mark up what you are hitting nearly as easy.
@craigbroeking498 Жыл бұрын
I may be wrong but shouldn’t you drive it into the dovetail from right to left as you look down the barrel? At least that is how many if not all dovetails I have seen work. That may be why you had such a difficult time driving it in.

There were no instructions to that point. If there is some "universal" rule about wide side v narrow side on rear sights, I am unaware of that. Maybe some specific brands do ?

If anyone cares Dawson precision makes taller sights that can see over a suppressor or into a red dots sight window

did you read the directions?
@1947froggy2 жыл бұрын
Hi, not sure if you are being "cute" or serious. Watch again from 16:00 on. this is a hand fit sight intended for a gunsmith to install. No directions. :)

If the sight is Stainless it should not be attracted to a magnet, unless it cheap stainless!!!
@1947froggy3 жыл бұрын
Some steels are only weakly magnetic, and some are not magnetic at all. Austenitic stainless steels like 304 or 316 stainless are good examples of this. A ferritic stainless like 430 stainless steel, on the other hand, is ferromagnetic. Magnets stick to it. So I'm not sure but was attracted to magnet. :)

@@1947froggy Just yanking your chain , filing a bit on each side until it will drive in with some resistance is the best way , I've gone too far a time or two , and it sticks , have to get another sight body and start over ,

Typical KZbin “How To” video. “Ok, this is how to do this…” (cuts out the whole part showing how they did it)… “Ok, now that that part’s done…” I actually think it’s valuable to see how much of a struggle it was to get the sight out. Was it easy to punch out, or am I going to need the big hammer?
@1947froggy Жыл бұрын
I really can't win . Show too much, too long, complaints. Show too little, complaints. Find another video. ;)
@bdmarchant Жыл бұрын
Sorry. I didn’t mean to take my frustrations out on you. It just seems lately that every time I need specific information, that’s the exact point the video creator decides to cut. The rest of the video is helpful, and I did eventually get the rear sight out. I just had to use a bigger hammer and a steel punch even after removing the set screw.

@@bdmarchant Some are REALLY tight. Gunsmiths have a special PRESS tool to do it, but most of us don't do it enough to justify buying it. :)
