Recently got the CA model as well of the Max-9 and Im loving it so far! I can recreate the trigger issue if i try but have never come across it over a few hundred rounds. A welcome addition to the roster

I ended up buying a Max9 and can confirm, when training, I get the trigger lock issue. Now I have to train to make sure my finger is 100% on the trigger. In stressful situations it's definitely possible to not fully depress the trigger safety due to finger angle..

@@sndoverkillyt3585 a little bit more money if you are worried about the max 9, try the hellcat or p365 CA models. The XD and esp Glock 26 are nice definitely but are more bulkier to CCW. if you are not CCW, the 26 might be the better do it all option.

Great pistol!! Glad to see u Californians are getting some more love from the gun companies who go the extra to get some more guns approved for your Cali market. I would never live in Cali but for all u who do live there glad to see the improvements. And by the way the play in the slide and frame is normal mine does that as well and so do many of my other guns especially on my Glocks. Thanks for the review and stay safe.

Don't worry about what people say about the trigger ... you're right about it. Get a Crimson Trace or Armalaser laser for it. They are made for it and fits even without a rail on the front.

Changing the parts on any CCW may have legal implications if you shoot someone defensively.

i think they were encountering the issues with no ammo in chamber or in clip, like your saying when firing live rounds it doesn't happen.

I understand that the firearm shoots fine with the stock trigger. It would be nice to install a custom trigger. Make the firearm your own, an extension of your body. Ruger firearms are known for reliability, but they are made with mediocre materials, hence the price. It could only be a plus to upgrade it any way possible. Congratulations on your first video. It cant be reliable when you have to train and perfect the trigger to not malfunction. Is there anyway to fix it? Affordable gun tho.

Thanks for the video. I've got the CA model too & I love it. The slide locking back with ammo still in the mag is a known issue with this pistol. It's caused by the Slide Stop Spring getting dislodged or misaligned, so grip has nothing to do with it. If it keeps happening, send it back to Ruger and they will replace a bunch of parts to correct the issue. For some reason Ruger refuses to do a formal recall and claims it only affected a small batch of Max 9s, but I was at the range last week and overheard this guy asking the range master about his slide locking back with ammo still in the mag. So obviously the issue has not been corrected by Ruger. I haven't had that issue yet, but I've only gone thru about 300 rounds with mine. Keep a close eye on yours since this will be your EDC. You can't have your slide locking back on you in a self-defense situation. That puts you in a bad spot.

No. 300 rounds with factory parts, except the trigger which I replaced with a Galloway. I haven't experienced the slide locking back with rounds still in the magazine.

I first learned to shoot on a revolver over 40 years ago, and I can’t seem to shoot thumbs forward on a semi auto. I think there’s 3 main reasons: I may have shorter thumbs, I don’t grip anything else that way ( a hammer, tennis racket, knife, etc.), and if the only gun available was a revolver I’d burn the hell out of myself with a thumbs forward grip. I freely admit that I might gain a tad more accuracy, but at this point in my life changing doesn’t seem practical and I also don’t hit the slide lock.

I saw another review on this model that had a rattle in the slide; curious how yours fits together. Also, anything worth knowing in contrast to the new SIG? I've been teetering between the two for a bit now.

Yeah it has a rattle I’ve shot about 5k rounds with it not one issue budd I wouldn’t worry about the rattle

If your upper slide does not have a serial on your fire arm and your serial is on you lower then you should be okay with that in my opinion

As long as the frame with the serial numbers is registered, then it is legal in CA. After-market slide, barrel, recoil spring and firing pin assembly are all accessories, you can swipe them out as long as those parts are CA legal. However, threaded barrel is not legal for civilians in CA, that’s just an example.

Of course nobody would intentionally push the trigger sideways. But if you have big hands, and you are in a stressful situation, like a gun fight, and you are in a hurry, you might accidentally apply sideways pressure on the trigger safety as you jam your finger into the tiny space between the trigger and the trigger guard, and then it will not fire. Perhaps you got lucky and got one without the problem. I replaced the trigger on mine with a Galloway trigger, and now it's 100%.

Have you tried the oem trigger it’s not that bad I haven’t changed my trigger I’ve kept the original one and haven’t had no issues I recommend trying the original trigger for a few weeks and after that if your not satisfy you can upgrade it

There is no such laws or limit in CA. I buy 1,000 rounds in bulk at gun store monthly. I just need to pay a $1 to DOJ and pass the ammo background check each time.

I question having a safety on the gun since this will give the user the confidence to carry a bullet in the chamber... the greatest danger of a gun is the human who is carrying it. I consider it safer to teach newbies not to carry bullets in the chamber.

Yeah if that makes you confident then sure in my opinion after you are proficient and understand discipline as in keep your finger off trigger leave gun in holster when loaded etc after you master skills and confidence maybe you will feel more confident to carry in the chamber with a gun that has no thumb safety
