Ruger Predator AI mag latch removal

Thank you for the info. Just bought this same rifle and was going nuts trying to find how to buy the mag latch assembly tool since mine didn't come with one. I just got off the phone with Ruger customer support and these guys/gals are still top notch. The gentleman i spoke with said the tool typically does not ship with the rifle but, they are sending me 1 free of charge along with a spare spring and pins (just in case i guess.)

I tried to buy a Predator here in Canada but nobody up here could supply one for me. I "settled" for the Ruger Ranch version but my problem now is that that gun is better right out of the box than I am a shooter. Amazing accuracy that gives my CZ 455 Varmint a real run for it's money. I could not be more pleased. Still wish I could have gotten the Predator . Thanks for the video

I had a model with the AI mag. The re-assemble was so difficult, due to my arthritis, I decided to sell it. I want to have a rifle that I can have a more simpler re-assembly.

I understand that. My wife has RA and it can make things difficult. The predator with standard box mag is not as difficult to takedown/reassemble

Before seeing your video, I had decided not to purchase the Predator (AI) because of the magazine release. A couple of other Channels on KZbin either didn't have (or know of) the mag release big or didn't know how to properly use it. So, it was very frustrating to disassemble, that told me to stay away from this model, lol. Now that I've seen your video, I think I'll be in the market for the Predator AI! Thanks for sharing the knowledge :)

Just bought a Ruger Ranch 762 and the mag latch wouldn't s[ring back forward to hold the mag in. I had to push it back forward to hold in the mag. I got impatient and took the latch of and noticed one leg of the spring was bent. I guess they were lay that day and didn't have the jig. Now I have to call Ruger to get that jig.

Yeah. Just call Ruger and they’ll probably send you that jig for free. I’ve always got good service from them👍🏻

Hello Georgia boy. I like the camo on the Ruger stock . Does it look to be molded into plastic or more of a outside finish? Might want to give it a Matt clear coat if a outside finish it will make it a lote tougher . Just a thought

Yeah, it’s an outside finish. I’d rather of had the green stock and black barrel but I could only get the 7-08 with AI mags in this configuration.👍🏻

@@georgiaboy4410 I like the camo . I cleared the stock on a cva rifle stock I painted camo and it has held up real well . Turned out to be pretty durable

@@georgiaboy4410 yes sir the matt clear coat don't remember the brand tho . I put couple coats and it stayed a dull finish looks good . If a had a way of sending a pic I would let ya see .

Just got the exact rifle. It will not pick up the first round unless you pull bolt open and then insert magazine. Picks up rest of the rounds fine after that. Just ordered some 10 rd mags will see if it’s any better.Any thing like that with your rifle?

Never had that happen with my rifle. I have had to push in on the rear of the mag a couple of times to make sure it “clicked” into place. Hope those new mags fix the problem👍🏻

That stock was probably a big improvement. I remember holding the older version and the stock was quite flimsy.

I just ordered a predator in 6.5 grendel.. ferrin what ive read it uses ar style mags.. that's good with me, I have plenty..

That’s awesome. I been hoping Ruger would finally offer the Predator in the 7-08 and so when they finally did I scarfed one up. They really improved the stocks on the new ones. Hope to have this one setup in time for hunting season. Great rifles. Can’t wait to see yours👍🏻

James Pollard I saw that one. I may put a Nikon 4-12x40 on it this year for hunting. I can get those for about $120. And try one of those other scopes In the off season👍🏻

The new mag latch sucks big-time. I've been unable to get mine to work. The spring is not engaged. (I also had to order the latch assembly tool from Ruger.) What a pain in the butt to have to do this to remove the barrel action from your stock. Hate it! Bought mine through Gallery Of Guns and it may go back If I can't find a good fix. Idiot engineering in my opinion.

GB, You know how I have an unfavorable opinion about Ruger. they are though made for utilitarian use and abuse. The "Hunter" in me does look at those things when looking at Ruger products. -Dave
