Garrett Cartridges of Texas takes advantage of the 1 in 16 barrel twist by loading a Hammerhead 405 grain hard cast gas check bullet in a 45 Colt case. Equal to a 45/70 in a revolver.

Like you I continually had light strikes with failure to fire. I sent mine back to Ruger 3 times. They were unable to fix the light strike issue. I took the final paperwork from Ruger stating it was fixed and sold it at my local gun shop. I have no use for a gun that does not work.

There’s just something about a solid chunk of steel in a revolver that just feels right. The Redhawk is one of my favorite revolvers! It is so flexible in what you can do with it.👍🏻

I had my local gun store order one of these for me right before the whole corona mess. It is a nice revolver BUT, I put 250 ACP rounds and 120 Colt round through it and was having 1 to 2 light primer strikes per cylinder with 5 different ammo manufacturers. I contacted Ruger and immediately the lady on the phone told me to send it back. So I did. I got the revolver back in about 10 business day. The paper work that came with it stated the firing pin protrusion had been adjusted. I thought it would be fixed. Took it to the range and in 3 cylinders of 45 ACP I had 2 light primer strikes. With 50 45 Colt rounds had 5 more light primer strikes. Was not happy. I just received today an extra power spring kit from Bowen Classic Arms with 30 lbs and 40 lbs springs. I am going to put to 40 lbs spring in it and give it another try at the range. If that doesn't work I might file some of the hammer off where it contacts the frame above the transfer bar. I really wanted this to be a woods guns for cougars and such but until it's 100% reliable I won't bet my life on it.

If you watched the second video in the series kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIeQnXqwfa2WbKM I have made some of the modifications and can get the gun to run 100% shooting Remington ammo or using Federal Primers on my reloads. I did file the face of the hammer a little bit, you have to be careful you don't go to far. Just pick up a set of the Bowen Classic Arms springs and will be putting them in next to see if I can get it to run with harder primers. Thanks for watching.

I took a gander and your second video, very informative. Thank you. Seems like Ruger took more time with yours than they did mine. I put the 40 lbs spring from Bowen in mine and had no light primer strikes with Geco 45ACP or LAX 45 Colt after 50 rounds of each, but the trigger pull now is going to take some training to get better with. I have not shot reloads through mine yet. It's Federal primers I have along with some CCI. Once I get some Colt reloads made I'll try them out with each of those primers to see if the problem happens again.

Lord of the Plains , Inhad a Ruger SP101 that did exactly as you describe. It seems one gunsmith there makes it "just so" it kisses the firing pin. The way we fixed it was easy enough. Adjusting the shelf on the hammer by filing will allow the hammer to close "closer" on the Ruger transfer bar which then moves the firing pin in a bit. That is how they adjust the firing pin protrusion. The shelf is the TOP part of the hammer that hits the frame - so it must not be done too much that it allows contact at the point the lower portion hits the transfer bar when the hammer is >not< pulled.??otherwise it is overadjusted. Easy fix a couple thousands off and all works as it should.

I am a long time Ruger handgun owner, but both of mine are single action Blackhawks (.357 Mag and 45LC/45ACP), which NEVER miss fire. I have shot thousands of rounds, with not one miss fire, even when I reloaded my own rounds back in the '70s. I am eager to get into the double action world, but this review and the comments below here in this section, tells me otherwise, at least not to get a Ruger double action revolver. Something that is brand new from a very well established gun manufacturer should never fail when shooting non-defective ammo. I would like to hear in your responses as to WHY Ruger has not solved this problem!!! The heavy pull trigger solution, with the more powerful spring, is not a good solution, and I would avoid completely. The other solution by Roddo looks great, so why hasn't Ruger done this???

Probably a similar issue to the Ruger GP100 10mm shooting .40 S&W. More than likely, ordering up a thicker moonclip would solve this issue as it would move the rear of the cartridge closer to the firing pin. Not sure if TK Custom sells them, you could ask but they do sell a thicker .40 S&W moonclip for the GP100, otherwise it won't shoot .40 well at all, if it does period. So try a thicker moonclip, if that's possible.

This gun will safely fire 7 different rounds: .45 colt, .45 schofield, .45 auto, .45 super, 450 smc, .460 rowland, and .45 winchester magnum. It will not fire .45 auto rim, because the rim is too thick.

It does not (won’t) chamber .45 autorim
@45AlfaCharliePapa4 жыл бұрын
Please do tell. Why is it that the 45 Auto Rim will not fit? Since the Auto Rim is just a rimmed version of the 45acp. Is the rim to small or sit to tall? The auto rim was made for converted revolvers like the webley that had the cylinder shaved so they could shoot 45acp with moon clips. The rimmed version allowed the shooter to not need the clip. Thanks for watching.
@RabbitusMaximus4 жыл бұрын
45 Alfa Charlie Papa , sure. First Inshould mention I have one, and I also have a 1917 Colt which does take the autorim, so I reload for both. The Ruger Redhawk headspaces the 45 (long) Colt on the rim, and the spacing between the cylinder rim on th OUTSIDE of the cylinder and the recoil plate of the frame is correct for the colt, and far too thin to allowautorim to fit. Now it gets the .45 ACP by cutting the INSIDE only of the cylinders for moonclips...and in factnthe ACP can NOT be used without them - this is because unlike a true .45 acp cylinder, the Ruger is bored through to accomodate the 45 colt case length (.45acp will just drop right on through). As you know, autorim has a very thick rim allowing shaved cylinders from webleys, or any 1917 model (bored through or otherwise properly bored) to shoot withoutnmoon clips,...the Ruger has no option...it MUST use the moonclips.... if space existed for autorim then the regular 45 colt rims would flop about and partially out of the cylinder :)
@45AlfaCharliePapa4 жыл бұрын
I see the Auto Rim's rim is thicker than the rim on the colt and sits to tall to fit. That is good to know. Thanks. I have seen auto rim cases but don't have any to compare them to.
