I was first able to fire the Ruger AC-556 with a grip and metal folding stock during my training at the NBI Academy. It was official issue to NBI agents in the Philippines during the 80s-90s even now a few are still available but mostly now replaced by the Galil ACE 556. The Ruger was reliable but too heavy for my taste. So i preferred the AR-18 556, which were issued concurrent with the Ruger at that time, during my early years in law enforcement. We simply called the AC-556 the Mini-14.

Fun fact: This gun is known for being used in one of the few cases of self defense by a private citizen with a machine gun. Long story short, an H&K (yes, Heckler & Koch) employee was driving with his wife when a couple very angry men who were likely on some illicit substance started following them. After becoming sure that they were being stalked, the man made his way to the H&K factory and told his wife to run inside and call the police. He quickly got out, ran to the trunk, and retrieved the AC-556 as the men pulled into the driveway behind them. The men got out of the car, maniacally yelling and rapidly approaching with revolvers drawn. Since the employee had never used the gun up to this point, he didn't notice it was switched to full-auto, and when he tried to fire a warning shot into the pavement before the attackers, he ended up spraying nearly half a dozen rounds. The two men were unfazed, and raised their guns. That's when the employee fired again, I believe mortally wounding both. As for why he had the gun, he supposedly was meant to evaluate it on behalf of H&K to see if it functionally surpassed their own offerings.

I believe you are mistaken regarding that the gas system is similar to the short tappet action employed in the M1 carbine. There is no piston in the Mini 14/AC556 gas block, there is only a stationary/fixed guide (on the gas block) that the op rod rests/resets on. The gas impinges directly upon the op rod. The guide (ersatz piston) does not reciprocate such as a piston would and only the op rod, and by default, the bolt reciprocate.

The first gun I ever bought new was a Ruger Mini-14, mainly because I grew on on 80s action TV, and the AC-556 was everywhere. especially the A-Team
@bradleywayne39434 ай бұрын
I was a passenger on a particular 'privately' owned and operated aircraft on a certain occasion when I was invited to the cockpit by the pilot through the 'steward'. Anyways, the Pilot, and Co-Pilot both had AC-556's. Theirs were not Stainless though like the model in the video, and were much smaller. The front site blade was actually located on the gas-block and even at the time their models had a pic-rail on the top and what made me notice them was the A team stock, (folded) and the location where they were stored (pointed down on the rear right and rear left of the pilot and co-pilot seats), and with super tiny red dots which turned out to be Trijicon RMRs and KAC QD Suppressor(s), the good Ole NT4 type GWOT Gold remember? And based on the time that this happened, it was the first time I had seen a red dot that small, we had the solar reflex from Trijicon that nobody really used for the M4s but nothing that small. Anyways, I just remember it being a very unexpected blast from my childhood, because I immediately started calling the pilot Hannibal which he really didn't appreciate (turned out to be more of a Star Trek fan, 'I didn't buy the fucking thing. That's the one 'they' gave me). Anyways that was/is the only time I had ever seen an Mini-14/AC-556 in actual "Service" rather than an M4 or MP5 variant, especially for 'pilot's'. Well, just another nostalgic rant from your Good Ole Uncle Brad, you're welcome Internet. RLTW

Yeah....actually the officers on the street that take all the risks don’t really care if ignorant or unlearned people can’t tell the difference being law enforcement officers , and members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or any branch of the National Guard. What we REALLY care about, is going home at the end of the day with the same number of holes in our bodies that we started with! It’s Chiefs that take that into consideration get officers killed. Like the Chief in Dallas a couple years ago. I think it was 5 officers killed in that incident. All because the Chief was catering to groups that make an issue out of a non-issue.

@@stevewilson4514 I believe he’s talking about the deliberate militarization of police over the last decade or so, and the brainwashing making cops treat their own regular American neighbors as borderline terrorists.
@stevewilson45143 жыл бұрын
@@scottrgood I believe you are correct. That was his line of thinking. Now for the bad news: there is no overt or covert brainwashing taking place in law enforcement. The equipment is to give us a better chance of making it home alive. LE is so complex when it comes to case law, policies and procedures that most people couldn’t make it through the training program. And it’s only getting worse. Officers are frequently placed in Lose, Lose situations by people who want us to fix the unfixable. And then want our heads on a platter when things go bad. Which is why you see more and more instances of officers standing by doing nothing to stop the destruction of property, or property type crimes. And it’s only going to get worse! In many different ways. Like trying to find good quality applicants. We are already seeing that take place! When you find out what the job is really about nobody in their right mind would want to do this job. Fortunately for me I’m counting down the days left, and Im down to 2 digits. I Can’t wait to be done. Then you and people like you can pound sand. And that’s a pretty prevalent mindset with most officers these days. The only ones that don’t feel that way are to new to the job to know what they’ve gotten themselves into.

The Mini14 was designed in 1973. It's not like there were stacks of pmags in every gun store. The miltary was barely getting 30 rounders to troops in vietnam in 73. The AR180 and Stoner 63 both use their own magazines as well, so clearly no one cared about magazine compatability at the time.

@@0neDoomedSpaceMarine The M1/M14/mini action is inherently less durable than the AR action because of the large amount of force transmitted into the receiver by a mechanical linkage (the op rod).
