Ruger Security-9 Compact Range Review

I shoot the full size all the time, and it is one of my in the truck guns. You can't beat a Ruger, and I do like the looks of that compact that you tested. I just might need to take a closer look at the compact. Thanks for the tests.

Ruger makes some good firearms and I have owned quite a few over the years. I have yet to try the Security 9 but I thoroughly enjoyed my cousin's SR9 and my nephew's P 95. Thanks for the video and have a blessed weekend.

I've got a security 9... It's one of the best deals I've ever got on a handgun. Paid 130 bucks for it slightly used at a local pawn shop!

Thanks for the awesome review, just for everyone wondering on this security 9 compact model. It says in the manual that it’s a slide lock specifically not a release. So they instruct you pull the slide back to chamber a round! I’ve owned mine for close to a year now and have had no issues feeding, nor firing. Shoots amazing for a edc. Just got a Springfield armory hellcat and I can say for a 300$~ difference the quality of the Ruger is amazing for the money!

It's my edc for three years now and still loving it. Did a little upgrade on the trigger, bought two 15 round mags which makes the gun more fun to shoot in the range. It doesn't print and the price beats other brands. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the review. I wanted the compact, but found a full-size model locally. It's a great shooter...no glitches whatsoever after 500+ rounds. Great "combat" accuracy too. I may end up trading it for a compact model, but I've been very pleased so far, so who knows...

The more you shoot the more you like it. I have one IWB at right hip pocket right now. The short sight radius takes getting use to. After working it awhile that safety is easier to flip On & Off with the knuckle on your thumb. They use the 15 round mags too which help for big hands. The magazines also work for the PC9 Carbine. Have fun with it. Good shooting. 👍

@@TheWalkWithAl I switched on the short 10 round mags & put the pinky extensions on & added the little sleeve on the 15 rounders so there isn't a gap on the compact model. So far it's run everything fine. Have fun & stay out of the heat. 🌞 🔥 Van overheated today coming back from buying a 10/22 at Academy. I bet that ground was 105 degrees when I crawled under to check for leak.

@@TheWalkWithAl They don't list it in the manual because of safety issues but when loading a magazine if you have the slide locked back hold the grip tight & smack the magazine in a little hard with your palm & it will load a round automatically & close the slide. May take a few trys to get it right. Neat little feature for a fast reload. Take care & stay cool.

Thanks for the video-- nice review. On the slide release, I have seen info elsewhere that Ruger is calling this a "slide stop"-- they do not recommend using the level as a slide release. Instead, when the slide is locked back and the empty mag ejected, put the new mag in firmly and the slide will release automatically. Or you can do it manually.

Just fyi, the slide lock is just that, it’s a lock. Not a release. That’s why it’s stiff. You need to pull back to chamber a round.

Al, wanted to ask, whats your go-to oil on the range, and what if different, might be your choice of oil, for storage or clean up? i usally prefer Ballistoil, and a good CLP oil for cleaning maybe something for storage like frog lube. whats your thoughts??? maybe a vid on this. what'a think?

You don't have a slide release that is supposed to be used as a slidestop they want you to slingshot it if you read your own manual you will see that that's all I got to say about that Have a good day
