Sub MOA, really? I can't get better than 2 MOA no matter what ammo I shoot. It doesn't cycle 7.62 reliably on setting 3. It will shoot .308 on 3, but is unreliable on 2. Forget about 1. Yes I did break it in as recommended on 3. It will shoot 2 MOA with 150 gr Federal American Eagle and 168 and 175 gr Federal Sierra Match King. Everything else I've tried is 3 to 4 MOA. Yes I do know how to shoot.

Been running the 716i for a couple deer seasons and am happy with it. I hated the factory trigger and charging handle. Swapped in the 308 triggertech and phase 5 and made a world of difference. The fact that only sig went through military testing speaks volumes. The world of "Ar10" is littered with failed models banking on owners that don't shoot often.
@rossdonaghy1748 Жыл бұрын
Have to say watching this i was also thinking there's no way that a 4moa group at 110 was acceptable. If it's the gun i wouldn't rest till i found the cause. Would absolutley strap it to a lead-sled Scope and mount? Trigger? Barrel nut? Crown? Gas block touching? Something is not right.
@crazykev5 Жыл бұрын
How does it do without a 20 in barrel?
@michaelpereira808 Жыл бұрын
@@crazykev5 much more handy (especially with a vertical grip) in the field compared to rifles with longer barrels but the sig 716i is heavier. However, once in position (i.e. deer stand) the weight is less of a factor.
@kurtispaige732 Жыл бұрын
@rossdonaghy1748 the 716i's trigger out of the box is about an 8lb pull. Its heavy AF! He swapped the Ruger trigger with a Geisselle and left the SIG trigger stock. That says it all.
@kurtispaige732 Жыл бұрын
@michaelpereira808 EXACTLY! The SIG is heavier for sure but it has gone through more extensive testing that all but probably 3 other AR10 style rifles and those cost more than double or triple the 716I. Its a 1 MOA tool with a trigger swap, proper glass, and the right operator.

You better tighten up on the gun, clamp that handguard, drive that shoulder forward, and crush the pistol Grip, your groups wont suck as bad. People dont know how to shoot higher caliber semi autos for some reason. To everyone, everytime you shoot any gun, youre goal is to replicate a gun a vise, comfort is not the name of the game. The Ruger bolt is certainly the area of concern for durability, but I like to think the numerous extra vents they designed into the front of the receiver and not using more gas than you need would mitigate that to a large degree. They talk about using some proprietary fancy alloy in the bolt's construction to address strength too but who's to say that's not marketing fluff.
@doctormdds Жыл бұрын
Marketing fluff? From Ruger? On the rare occasions I have dealt with Ruger customer service they have been nothing but straight up honest and very generous. It is my belief that Ruger has the best customer service in the industry. Does that mean there is a lifetime guarantee? Of course not. But they stand behind what they build.

Nice, I am loving my SFAR. Don't get to shoot its as much cause of my job. But right now I have about 400 rounds through it. I went with a Blackout Defense AR15 3.0LB Zero trigger. STNGR 15" Handrail, Penguin Grip, H2 Buffer ,VG6 Gamma 762 Muzzle Brake, Bushnell Scope, and aftermarket stock(can't remember the name). One thing about the handguard, even though it might say it's for an AR15, it might not work on the SFAR. STNGR handguard will require you to change the gas block. The stock SFAR gas block is to wide at the top.

The Sig strongly prefers 175gr ammo. I was frustrated with mine until I tried both ammo weights back to back. What a difference! Both match loads from Sig. I've since found similar results with other factory loads using 175 Sierra Match Kings (same bullet Sig match load uses). I know both spec 1:10 twist rate. I don't have the Ruger yet, but I suspect based on all the lightweight parts the Ruger might need wear parts replaced more often. Interesting enough after changing the trigger group to a Geissele 2 Stage trigger on my Sig 716i I'm able to shoot 0.875 MOA consistently using 175 grain SMK handloads at 100 yards (2.125 at 200 yards) and .633 groups out of 168 Hornady BTHP off the bench and a stable hold with bi-pod. Proper shooting technique unleashes the potential of this weapon on the bench, prone position, or using a braced position. Using ball 7.62X51 M80 ammo performs excellent at various ranges and shoots 1 MOA to 1.75 MOA 10 to 20 shot "stressed" hot rifle groups at 100 yards off the bench and 3 to 4 MOA standing. All that from a trigger upgrade and a good LPVO scope.

Waiting on the optic, but I like what the SFAR looks like so far. Threw on a SD-E trigger like yours, BCM M-Lok Handguard, Seekins ambi safety, Radian Raptor, BKings Mag Release button and a BAD enhanced bolt catch. One note, all the parts are AR-15 compatible EXCEPT the bolt catch is AR10. Noticed that the muzzle device was on there with a grip of death but the barrel nut was not tight at all, so I'm glad I replaced the handguard as a QC check. The castle nut was also loose when I torqued it checking and the one thing I was disappointed with was finding the butt plate is polymer (found this out when I tried to stake the nut). I don’t understand why anyone would sacrifice the velocity in the .308 by running a 16” barrel. I like that at least the SFAR has an 20” option, Sig doesn’t for the 716i. Since this is about the only raving review in favor of the SFAR that I’ve seen (too many others have shown issues pertaining to the gas system w/ either over gassing on 3 or failures to feed on 2) I’m wondering how reliable it will be long-term.
@Arkancide Жыл бұрын
You don't sacrifice that much when going from 20" to 16" barrel. You lose, what? 300 ft lbs of energy? On non-bullpup rifles though, the savings in weight and ease of movement can outweigh the loss of velocity.

Here in my country (Denmark) we are only allowed to own one semi automatic, centerfire rifle, and it has to be chambered in a cartridge that is legal for what is classified as "class 1 game" (meaning red and fallow deer, and wild boar) - energy at 100 meters must be at least 2000 joules (so basically .243 Winchester is the cutoff). This means I cannot own a semi automatic 5.56 or 7.62x39 rifle, but I can own one in .308/7.62x51. My local store has the SIG 716i TREAD and the S&W M&P10 in stock, and they will be getting the Ruger SFAR home in both 16" and 20". As the Rugers are by far the cheapest, I was looking for videos informing me exactly how much worse they are - but I am pleasantly surprised to see your video. My conclusion being that I can probably get a fine rifle for a lower price. I can see that you have the 16". In your opinion, would the 16" be the better rifle, if we consider the fact that I can only own one semi automatic rifle? I will be mounting a A-TEC Optima Flow, and that will of course add to the overall length. It will probably end up wearing a Schmidt & Bender 1-8x24 Exos. Thank you in advance.

So what you're telling us is you can't deal with a seven and a half pound trigger.

I wanted the Sfar bad. Loved it. Couldn’t wait to get one. Then I read all the reviews. Then I went to the store and compared them side by side. There is no comparison. The Sig all the way. Quality. Build. Reliability. It was worth the few extra y

SFAR is one of the worst AR10s on the market... this review was basically just "choose the cheapest option"

How many rounds did you put thru it?
@justinbuchanan55514 ай бұрын
@@dariuswilliams7509 Zero, because it isn't a good platform. Ruger does not have a good track record in ARs, and my armorers advised me against being one. They said "if it is all you can afford, it is better than not having one"

One is Ruger. One is Sig. That decides it right there for me.

There is so much negative write up about Ruger SFAR problems I would not touch one with a 10 foot pole. Ruger as lost its reputation with this gun.
