I’ve been trying to figure out which ar10 I want for a while now. The 716i is an option and haven’t really considered the Ruger. I keep wanting the Armalite ar103gn18. Is the armalite a good rifle??

Thank you for your information. That is the same problem that I’ve been having. I had purchased freedom monitions ammo, and had the same exact issue. I contacted Ruger sent my rifle in and they gave me a brand new rifle said there was issues with the barrel assembly.

How is it holding up 2 years later?

I was a mechanical engineering technician on the Ruger SFAR line / AR 556. These guns are prone to blowing up we had people refusing to go into the range and shoot them via the sleds. The chambers reamers they used caused helix like spiraling, they had to unbox and rebarrel over 3k of these guns before the release because my first week on day shift I found this issue. The chambers were so bad that they had to stop using lube to test them in the range because it was causing a diesel combustion effect and causing the guns to explode. Do not buy one of these guns, I helped make them and wouldn't even own one!
@blakeyon2asd2 ай бұрын
The initial few thousand guns had gas blocks that were outsourced, and they started making them in house on shitty Haus machines that wouldn't hold the needed tolerances. They were more worried about getting the marlin line up and running so the SFAR got pushed to the side.

I can't decide between this and the rise armament 535
@illestdomer20053 ай бұрын
I don’t have a SSP, but I have the RA-535 in a Lee Sporting “lower” for my AP5-P SBR. It is excellent. There is zero takeup and very little travel for reset. I haven’t used it in a rifle caliber rifle, but I got it for a pretty nice deal (check AR15Discounts), and it has been a lot of fun to shoot.

Both great rifles. But I'll take the Ruger. My recommendation is put an adjustable gas block like rifle speed on it and it should be more reliable and still cheaper than the sig even with the extra cost for a new rail and gas block
@biochem70633 ай бұрын
Interesting enough after changing the trigger group to a Geissele 2 Stage trigger on my Sig 716i I'm able to shoot 0.875 MOA consistently using 175 grain SMK handloads at 100 yards (2.125 at 200 yards) and .633 groups out of 168 Hornady BTHP off the bench and a stable hold with bi-pod. Proper shooting technique unleashes the potential of this weapon on the bench, prone position, or using a braced position. Using ball 7.62X51 M80 ammo performs excellent at various ranges and shoots 1 MOA to 1.75 MOA 10 to 20 shot "stressed" hot rifle groups at 100 yards off the bench and 3 to 4 MOA standing. All that from a trigger upgrade and a good LPVO scope.

My Ruger has had numerous problems, to many to mention. I will say it’s the mist accurate though. It shoots 1 hole groups whenever I do 1 shot groupings. Weird thing is though whenever I do 3-5 shot groups it opens up to 6 moa, that’s if I can get it to shoot 5 shots in a row

I'm currently running the rise armament 535 trigger on my scalper build I'm looking for a little more I'm looking at the ssp or a binary what do you think?
@illestdomer20053 ай бұрын
Binary triggers are a lot of fun when they work. Had to send off my Franklin HK for a rebuild/replacement, but so far, so good on the rebuild.

I hate to be overly critical, but in the first ammo test video you only measured 3 shots in your "closest" measurements and in this video, you measured the "closest" 4 shots. That skews the results.

People have been reporting barrel issues out the sfar. The worst groups I’ve got is about 3 inchs out of mines. You might wanna send it in so Ruger can check out your barrel. Or get a gunsmith to scope your barrel. You should be getting at least 1.5 moa out of some those loads with that optic. I can almost guarantee you have some sort of issue with your barrel.

Well, really wanted one?I’ve looked at dozens of these videos recently and all I can tell you is Ruger has real good customer service but they’re rifle less then worth a fuck if you have to send back 80% of the product put out. well it speaks for itself. I would be afraid to field this rifle once you open everyone knows your name and your the new favorite target weapons failure is catastrophic at that time so if you wanna shoot rabbits, you’ll probably be OK
@spraynpray4 ай бұрын
All of the brass you've shown has signs of overpressure. They cut the chambers wrong on the SFARs. It leads to parts failure and if you run a silencer, the rifle has a chance of detonating.
@blakeyon2asd2 ай бұрын
I was a tech on the SFAR line I'm working with a different company now and you are correct. I have pictures and videos to prove it also. I wouldn't own one of these guns or recommend them to anyone, this was nothing more than something to release and get the attention back on Ruger until the Marlin like at the plant in Mayodan opened up. This was never going to be a successful rifle, they couldn't even get it to work when I left last year around June and they were talking about releasing 6.5 models lol
Just picked one of the same and I couldn't be more excited!

Glad you had a pleasant experience with customer service, but Ruger should not be using its customers for QA/QC. After seeing how many problems people are having with this rifle, I'd say it's a good idea, the super light-weight AR-10 and all that, but it doesn't work. I'd never buy it.
