I have the exact gun. My father purchased it for me in 1960 when I was 10 years old. It is a great gun. But mine doesn’t look as nice as the one in your video. Mine has spent a lot of time in a holster on my hip. Both in Florida swamps and in California deserts. FYI, the gun was originally advertised by Ruger as a “Colt 45” replica. Warning: The guns originally sold with a hammer that rests on the firing pin and can go off if the hammer is hit. Many of the old 6 shooter revolvers have this problem. Ruger issued a recall for this model and will retrofit the gun with new parts to fix this problem. I think Ruger will still fix the guns for free. My dad had the recall paperwork but never had the gun fixed. So! I had my gun fixed by Ruger in 2004 for free. I might of paid the freight but can’t remember. Either way, it is worth the effort

That’s awesome! It is a very smooth shooter!

Always put the hammer in the safety (1st click position for loading) BEFORE removing cylinder) this will lower the locking bolt for the cylinder and will prevent damage to the locking bolt head and cylinder.

So the cylinder on mine does not turn and it’s not aligned with the thing you slide back to eject the bullets. I’m new with revolvers and I just got this one from my grandpa, is there a way to fix it? Or should I take it to a gunsmith to fix it
@travisp113 жыл бұрын
It may be that the pin that goes through the cylinder is not installed properly. Can you pull the pin out to remove the cylinder?

I have a Herters/Wreck single action 22 LR that is very similar to your revolver. I need new grips and would like to get the 22 mag cylinder; can you tell me where these items might be purchased. Thanks for the video, it helped me better understand my weapon.

Check gunbroker. Or just do a basic google search. There are several gun parts stores out there that may en able to help.

I got one use as a present and I start checking it out and I am having trouble pulling the little metal to hold the cilinder how do I fix that ?
@travisp115 жыл бұрын
Araceli Campos spray some clp down the metal shaft and let it sit for a while. After that it should slide right out.

love Ruger revolvers! I was looking at the bearcat as a possible 22 revolver to fill my collection in, but these are nice too

travisp11 worst part of revolvers is cleaning above that forcing cone and the front of the cylinders...I'm not sure what the best product is for that because I'm not big time revolver guy even though I currently own three lol. I know you can use flitz on stainless steel but I'm not sure what cleans off blued or scandium frames.
@travisp117 жыл бұрын
RockHumper A while ago I think The Yankee Marshal did a video on a brush or something special that he used to clean the front of the cylinders. I may need to go back and check that. Good ol' CLP usually removes most of the fouling with a patch but too much buildup may require a soft brush.

To clean the cylinder burn rings on my stainless Ruger New Model Single Six I use Hoppes 9 with a brass brush followed by a Birchwood Casey Lead Removal cloth. Do not try this on a blued finish as it will wear the finish off. travisp11, your Ruger looks lovely! Very shiny, due to cleaning or lighting? Don't know. I wish I had a three-screw Single Six.

I've seen videos where they do a full take down. Do you find that necessary if you're firing this thing regularly? I'm usually shooting mine about once a week so I wonder if I need to go that deep or if this clean is enough. Great video, thanks!

I don´t think that you need to do more of a disassembly than what you see here. I definitely would not mess with the action or the timing mechanism unless I knew what was going on. If the gun isn´t performing and I don´t feel comfortable on it, I would call a gunsmith.

Not gonna show us how to clean out the bore?!! Really?!!
@travisp112 жыл бұрын
You can use a cleaning rod with a bristle brush and patches but the bore snake usually does the job for me.

@@travisp11 Thanks! This is my first time cleaning a gun so I don't want to mess up any steps!

@@Christina_the_Astonishing In this video I believe I used a bore snake which works pretty good.
@Christina_the_Astonishing2 жыл бұрын
@@travisp11 Okay! I saw a video where the guy said to go from back to front but I didn't see how you could do that with a rod on a Bearcat! A bore snake sounds like the perfect solution! Thanks! And sorry, I'm just a newbie here!
@travisp112 жыл бұрын
@@Christina_the_Astonishing no problem, that is why I just use a bore snake. You can get one at Walmart or the gun cleaning section at Cabela's, Bass pro, etc. Just be sure to get one in 22LR. You can also order them on Amazon. I like the following brands...Allen, Hoppes, Real Avid.
