So cool story. About 2 years ago I really wanted one of these I finally wanted to get a bigbore revolver and couldn't make up my mind between gettin this or the 460xvr. I couldn't find any toklats and still used ones online pop up for 1900 used when one does pop up. So I shelled out the 1400 and got the readily available 460, and the same day I get after shooting around 5 shots, I'm painting the house and a deer runs by the fence line in heat around 85 yds away and I ran in and grabbed the gun and got him on the 2nd shot, that 460 is hell of accurate. I love my 460 and recoil is tame but it's long and big. Well about 2 weeks ago I got myself a brand new snubnose gp100 for concealed carry and I noticed the accuracy was terrible and the forcing cone had some weird material on it. So I sent it back to ruger and yesterday they call me and tell me the tried multiple new barrels and all kinds of stuff and the gun just wouldn't shoot right, it's defective. So he said we don't have that exact gun, is there anything else you might like? So I said within that price point? He said dont worry about price. So i told him I've always wanted a redhawk toklat, so the gent goes over to the redhawk factory and they tell him they're tooling up to make a new batch, they can throw one on for me. So I basically just bought a 900 dollar Ruger Toklat right off the factory floor and I'm super excited. Rugers customer service is amazing! I can't wait put a scope on it and go hunting, I hope the recoil isn't too much worse than my 460 or 44mag blackhawk.

Amazing story. And yes, the recoil is definitely worse. I have a bear survival kit S&W snub nose 460, plus a Toklat, and a S&W 460 with that 10 to 11” barrel (can’t remember exactly. I love shooting the 460’s way more than the toklat but I like them all

I picked up a Toklat today. After hearing you say it was the best revolver for Alaska I figured it would also be the best for Mississippi. We do not have brown bear here. But I feel it will serve as a great defense revolver against catawampus’s and Sasquatch’s. I love the revolver. I’m glad I seen your video recommending the Toklat. I knew 7.5 and 9 inch Super RedHawks existed. But I was in the dark about the 5 Toklat. Again, thanks for your review. It’s the reason I got one.

@@richierich3053 , I ran a bear bait station for decades. Only time I ever forgot to put my old Blackhawk back into it's holster coming back from a town supply run in the truck & going back into the bush it got stolen. THEIF did me a huge favor. Since being out here w/o a sidearm backup is NOT an option I immediately went back to town the next day & got a Redhawk. ( Was on a promotion sale) The very next day after returning a damn blackie snuck up behind me & was up into my stand so fast I barely had time to grab the Redhawk in my lap & shove it into her chest firing double action as her teeth were closing on my face. I wouldn't have had time to cock/fire the single it happened so fast. Bears spit/ breath was up my nose she struck that quick. Never thought I'd see the day I was happy my faithful & trusted old Blackhawk was stolen but I certainly was that day. Haven't had a single action since. Don't even like bolt rifles anymore either.They cycle too slow. Good ol lever actions , pumps or semi auto in case of a multiple bear attack. THEY happen fast too. Ya, screw that noise. Out here we NEED every advantage we can get. Exciting life! 😁

My 460V S&W 5 inch muzzle brake equipped barrel X-revolver weighs 60 ounces and as you mentioned can chamber 460 S&W magnum, 454 Casull, the heaviest 45 Colt loads. Mine has been bead blasted by Cylinder and Slide and S&W did a Master Revolver Package job on it. Added a fixed trigger over travel stop and green high visibility green front sight. Bowen Classic Arms black powder chamfered the front of the cylinder and I use a BCA Target steel adjustable rear sight. And it makes the 454 Casull tolerable to fire. Drawback?!?! Only 5-rounds versus 6 for the Ruger Toklat.

Being that you can shoot .45 Colt in that revolver…. You use a Hot Colt +P round in that, you won’t need 454! 454 is a round you’re lucky if you hit what you’re shooting at and rapid follow up shot….. Forget about it! Use a hot Colt and you’re more likely going to live to tell your story! Just my opinion….

I'm in northwest Wyoming. I jave had my fair share of run ins with black, brown, and grizzly in my life. There really is no "bear stopping" round. I have personally seen a charging brown bear take 11 shots of 7.62x39 before dropping. I have seen another brown bear take 12 gauge 00 buckshot to the face at about 30 yards and kept on coming after spinning on its ass. It's really all luck in a situation where you are under pressure with a charging bear.

Same reason to carry a revolver as a back up weapon. They fire every time.

I'd much rather hit 1 solid well placed shot in the boiler room with a heavy 454 slug than a few hastily fired shots from a 10 mm cartrige any day .when a beatr is comming at you at 35 mph ! Yes they are fast ! And if the bear gets to me I know my remaining 454 slugs have the power to to its job .without a doubt . Also the ruger toklat revolvers don't jam period a semi auto can and have been known to jam. When SHTF and your life is at stake I wouldn't wanna take that chance.

@leroywatermelon40252 жыл бұрын
There really is no good bear round when being charged. You have about 2 to 3 seconds to draw and fire before you're ground beef. Unless you're walking around like a cowboy at high noon, that's maybe enough time to get 2 shots of under extreme pressure. Your best bet for taking a stroll in bear country is a short barrel 12 gauge loaded with slug. It's in your hands already and all you have to do is rack and fire. It's your best chance for surviving a bear charge.
