Thanks for the excellent recording and the synopsis. Other cast members include Alan Titus baritone Schaunard, Sofia Lis mezzo Eufemia, Alexandrina Milcheva mezzo Musette a seamstress, Raimund Grumbach baritone Colline, Jorn Wilsing baritone Conte Paolo. The way the Murger incidents (originally for magazines) are chosen show the differences between the two operas. I actually saw the Leoncavallo at the City Lit. in London many years ago. I must say Puccini and his librettists put a lot into character details like Mimi (accent over the "i") and her embroidering of flowers and Schaunard's killing a parrot by playing the violin!

I am very happy to see this opera here. It deserves much more attention than it gets. I think the best comparison of the two Bohémes is: Puccini's is the story of Rodolfo and Mimi and Leoncavallo's is the story of Marcello and Musetta. They are both artistic masterpieces. Too bad it was audio only. I would like to have seen it.

I have always loved this piece since I found an old Cetra recording in a Library. I wish it could be produced more often, WITHOUT it being compared to Puccini's. Two different composers with two different musical languages. I love that Leoncavallo offered Puccini his own libretto, which he rejected, then went and chose his own librettist and finished his opera first!

Leoncavallos Bohème klingt für mich ‚französischer‘ als die von Puccini. Ich habe sie seit ihrer Erscheinung in meiner Diskothek. Die Interpreten überzeugen wie auch die Komposition, der ich mehr Bekanntheit wünschte - allein schon wegen Bonisollis herrlicher Stimme und dem poetischen Schluss…

A mi me gusta más que la de Puccini, es una lástima que esta gran Boheme quede olvidada como otras grandes óperas de Leoncavallo. Las interpretaciones y puestas en escena van dirigidas a obras populares ampliamente conocidas con un fin solo comercial.

Persönlich glaube ich, dass das Fehlen von Leoncavallos Boheme von den Werbetafeln der Theater ein schwerwiegender Fehler gegenüber Leoncavallo und gegenüber einer wunderbaren Oper ist (geschrieben mit Google Translator)

Es cierto, yo personalmente la veo una ópera más elaborada que la de Puccini incluso a nivel orquestal.

@@jjmmss21 Sólo hay una analogía entre la Bohema de Puccini y la Bohema de Leoncavallo: el sujeto. Mismo tema, pero dos lecturas muy diferentes, lo que llevó a los dos compositores a escribir dos óperas distintas. Hacer comparaciones, aparte de "me gusta más uno que otro", que es respetable pero no tiene nada de musicológico, no tiene mucho sentido. Lo importante es traer de vuelta esta obra maestra de Leoncavallo, de manera estable, a los teatros italianos y mundiales.

@@GiuseppeSilipo si lo que tú dices es cierto, a mi personalmente me gusta más la de Leoncavallo porque siempre es más detallado, era un compositor muy fino y con un buen manejo de arreglos orquestales, es muy injusto que no solo está sino otras óperas de él queden casi en el olvido porque son grandes trabajos también que no tienen nada que envidiar a Puccini, un abrazo

@@GiuseppeSilipo hay óperas de Leoncavallo injustamente olvidadas, por ejemplo I medici, Der Roland von Berlin, Maia que es una ópera que no se conoce. Pero es cierto lo que dices las dos óperas son geniales pero con diferentes lecturas, Leoncavallo era un compositor muy fino y que realizaba lindos arreglos orquestales, hay mucha riqueza en su música no solo Puccini como nos hicieron creer, espero que estas óperas en algún momento se empiecen a interpretar nuevamente en Italia y el mundo!!!
