For anyone wondering, the actual Karakoram highway is a very good and modern highway, but it's prone to landslides and snow blockages, however it is usually repaired within 48 hours because it's the only life line for the Gilgit Baltistan province.. Due to landslides and blockages in rainy and snowy season, many people take this dangerous alternative route like this guy. This kind of situation isn't permanent, it's there for a short period of time in Monsoon season. And the jeep part is not a highway, it's an adventurous track for adventurous people, it's deliberately kept like that to add to the thrill!

This was scary AF, I could completely relate as I experienced the same during my trip to skardu. I don't know what season you went in but one should never ever go in Monsoon season to North. There are numerous land slides in a single day. Every step is uncertain and this constant fear actually makes you sick. It is very risky. I myself went in the monsoon season in 1st week of August. We were supposed to go to fairy meadows for camping but due to land slide we had to postpone our visit and instead went to skardu. Even after 4 to 5 days the land slide was not cleared, the roads were completely blocked and we had to cancel our visit and instead went somewhere else to camp. Now that I have seen this photage I'm glad we didn't go in such a rainy weather. But at the end when you reach your destination the view is breath taking, the places are so beautiful that you forget the whole journey, you are there in the moment, sinking it in. It's beautiful and it can never be explained, it can never be shown, it is something to just experience and cherish for your whole life.

My goodness! I experienced this while traveling in Honduras. I know what it’s like to drive winding roads up a mountain with no barriers, collapsed roads, witnessing fresh accidents and sometimes inside busses so over crowded that people stand up against each other, lean on the dashboard, etc. I feared for my life....especially when it got so narrow we couldn’t see if a car was coming in the opposite direction behind a giant rock or sharp turn with several blind spots....but this...this....was something else! As a journalist I appreciate this effort, opening the world for everyone to see. This guy is my hero!
@firstylasty94172 жыл бұрын
Whoa. Where was this in Honduras, where were you going, why, and are you from there? If you don't mind my asking. I crossed the Andes in a tourist bus, and it was the most terrifying thing I've done in my life. Multiple hairpin turns and kabillion-foot drops. You just pray your driver isn't sleepy, headachey, sick, or have a heart condition, as your life depends on him. I might not've taken the trip, if I knew what I was getting into. Surprised me when people make life-risking choices like this *voluntarily.* ...Doesn't sound as bad as your trip, tho.

When I used to live in Nepal, and had to travel to my village or go traveling further north, the roads were just like these, up in the mountains and close to the cliff. I used to be so scared, being only 8. Memories still hunts me. My grandma brother also lost his life on one of those roads.

@@MrKawaiiKing well, I wrote in the comment that I was kidding about not going there, you must visit this place, but not in winters, because the hiking trail will become really slippery and dangerous. Also, do wear proper hiking shoes with really good threading, otherwise you will slip alot on the trail. Other than that, the place is marvellous, and natural water tastes so nice there. You will get to see all the greens of the forest and land, and also as you will hike up, you will get to see snow and the real beauty of Nanga Parbat. You will have to hike alot so do have a good stamina and this hiking makes this whole journey a real adventure. Overall, do visit the place, I can assure you will love this place alot.

What a video to stumble upon; I’ve seen brief footage of this road but never anything quite like this! Just watching on my phone, sitting here safely, it’s hard to not feel conflicted/come to terms with the beauty & majesty that’s documented as the risk of death at any moment is as real & indeed as great as the landscape. Breathtaking & intensely unsettling at the same time, this footage is exceptional & I thank you for your incredible work 🖤

The Karakoram Highway. It's certainly one of the world's most spectacular. Tracing one of the many pathways of the ancient Silk Road, the KKH is often called the 'Eighth Wonder of the World' due to its high elevation and the difficult conditions in which it was constructed. It took 20 years to complete. The Karakoram Highway is the highest paved highway in the world. Running at 16,000 ft through the Himalaya, Karakoram, and Pamir Mountains, Karakoram Highway is the highest paved highway in the world. The Indus River also runs through some parts of the road
