I’m from Rochester. That is where I met so many of my girlfriends in the 80s. When they were working at Tom Wall‘s restaurant or the merry-go-round. I was walking around and I just meet them. I was working at Kaufman‘s and ended up dating a young lady who was doing vacuum demonstrations.I miss the 80s so much.

MANY high school days and nights spent there with friends. Usually in Time Out, Spencers, or Cavages looking for albums!

I was in this mall during it's grand opening week in October 1982. My mom and dad bought me a pair of brown shoes at the Altier's Kids that was planted in the Sears wing, on the right side as you're facing Sears. I remember the sidewalk sales as well as the RV and boat shows during it's heyday. The mall is currently even more vacant than this video shows and it's in hospice care waiting to die. Bath and Body Works is gone along with White Barn, Zumiez, Spencer Gifts, Best Fit, and Torrid. Dick's is moving out of the mall and relocating down the road about a mile away. No places to eat in the food court except the coffee shop. Not much news has been announced on what will be done with the remainder of the building that is still standing.

I was just there Thanksgiving weekend. I grew up in Henrietta and have pictures from an employee pregrand opening since my brother worked at Sears. Don Alhart (the host from channel 13) holds the eorld record for most news broadcasts i believe.

My childhood mall... it really was the pandemic lockdowns that put it into the dead mall category, there was still a decent occupancy rate for a mall even in 2017-2018. P.S. While you were in the region, did you make another visit to Genesee County Mall/Batavia City Center? I guarantee it's in a lot better shape than when you were there last time! :)

Once in a while I sat in the audience for live for that local morning TV show (WOKR Channel 13 with Don Alhart). I happened to be there when NBC News anchor Jessica Savitch was doing her book tour for her just-published autobiography. I walked over to Walden Books, bought a copy, walked back and shook her hand and she autographed my copy. About 7-10 days later she, her boyfriend, and their dog, horribly died when on a dark, rainy night their automobile flipped upside down into a narrow canal in 15 feet of water (in Pennsylvania) with doors wedged shut.

After my move- in to live in Rochester, N.Y. from Washington , DC on Monday September 1, 1984 following my college graduation with B. A. in double- majors of Biology and Chemistry from Gallaudet University with Class of 1981 in Washington , DC, I frequently had visited the Marketplace Mall by RTS buses, and RTS ACCESS buses, and later in the RVA vans. Otherwise I have seen changes inside the Marketplace Mall- Sears, other favorite restaurants , other retail stores and others from 1985 to 2020’s as I remember about them in my timeline very well. In a fact in my real life I have been an eyewitness who saw changing times in my permanent local residence over 40 years at honestly. Christa D’Auria

It’s amazing how commercials of the early 80s seemed stuck in the 70s and behind the times. You would never associate those commercials to be in the same time frame as when MTV was playing videos of The Police, Men at Work, Quarterflash, U2, Talking Heads, Scandal, etc. It seemed that while music, movies, and fashion was pushing forward into the 80s everything else was still stuck in the 1970s in the early 80s. These commercials are evidence of this.

We usually we went to Irondequoit Mall because it was closer and then sometimes Greece Ridge. But every once in a while our family would go here, my best memory of it was it was the place we bought a jacket for my sister.

I still have my autographed picture from Buffalo Bob Smith from that appearance by him. The first thing I asked him was what was it like doing the TV show happy days and he said the cast was very nice.

We had quite a few big malls here in central Massachusetts. Built from the early 70s to now. The only reason I go out to the mall,15 to 20 minutes from here,is for the movie theater. I do all my holiday shopping online for the last few years. It’s just easier!

Marketplace mall used to have a Friendly’s ice cream, and just lots of really cool places. Now I think all they have are medical offices. What a shame. I remember Irondequoit Mall used to be also pretty cool and then the gangs took over and they shut it down.

The same family that owns wilmorite also owns a big chunk of university of Rochester, the Wilmots. It was inevitable that they’d fill the giant hole in marketplace with another one of their business
