Can’t believe you were able to break this rule down. Probably one of the most indepth rules on the regs

Are you able to explain and with reference to the International rules, Why is a vessel under this rule that is pushing ahead or towing alongside not required to show the R.A.M lights, or day shapes as the case admits? Where towing is an activity that may restrict maneuverability due to the nature of her work per rule 27? Thank you

When you are in open water without traffic around you are pretty maneuverable. The USCG questions usually state something like this; "A tug is pushing a tow ahead in open water" when you see that, you know that they are not restricted. On the other hand a question might state; "A tug and a tow are severely restricted to deviate from their course" and this is how you know it is a RAM.

@@uscaptainstraining Cool thanks, so I guess from a Captains point of view, you should light yourself with regard to the available water around you, but by these rules at a minimum?

That's a good interpretation.
