When my friend James Picard was growing up he had quite a hard childhood, with a father who did not support James becoming an artist in any way. James told me about a time when his father threw all of his art into the fire and that moment inspired this song.

Just found this song and now I can’t stop crying,, It reminded me of the time my father destroyed and threw away my art in of his fits of rage. One of the pieces was being made as a gift for him. Staring at it shattered and discarded on the ground as he screamed at me about “wasting time with useless things” stirred so many emotions inside me. Listening to this song, it’s like all the pain, sadness, anger, frustration, but more strongly the determination from that day were transformed into sound. Absolutely astonishing work! This the third song from Fish in a Birdcage that I’ve listened to so far, and they’ve all been so incredible!! Please keep creating your art ❤

Your music is absolutely beautiful. May I ask how you got the idea to make your music? It has a very poetic and meaningful feel to it with a slight bit of classical music with it. How and why?

My process is pretty all over the place 😁 I try to imagine a story. And try to almost "draw" the scene. And try to describe from one moment and not move around the timelines too much. Try to bring in the senses as much as I can to create imagery. Thanks for asking and thanks for listening!

This song I have always found to be intriguing. I have a feeling it is perhaps your (collectively as I assume you are a band?) Style to make songs with a wide range of interpretations. However, out of all your songs this one makes me the most curious as to what you were thinking while writing it. Would you perhaps mind sharing a little insite on what you imagine this piece being about?

This is about the story of the Artist who did the artwork for the 4 albums for fish in a birdcage. Growing up, James's father was an abusive alcoholic. One night he grew frustrated with James spending so much time drawing and painting, and took his art and threw it in the fire. Instead of that deterring James, that flame lit the fire of determination underneath him and carried him into the artist he is today.
