The Italian navy at that time was the Regia Marina (Italian Royal Navy). The inventor of the all 'big-gun battleship' (intended for the british Royal Navy) was General Vittorio Cuniberti. He designed the first italian dreadnought (the Dante Alighieri) and the similar Gangut-class for the Russian navy.

That 1700 ton KE was more like a Gunboat (with those 6" guns). Allowing these types is a nice addition. The traditional small corvette still has it's place as minesweeper/convoy escort/patrol boat. It'll be hilarious to see tiny 300 Torpedo Boats with 2 torps and a 2" pop gun - that 20% ROF modifier isn't so damaging when you only have one tiny gun - It's the torpedoes you want!

Cementing is indeed for armour. Krupp Cemented armour was the standard for dreadnaught battleships. It was an improvement of Krupp armour, which was better than Harvey Steel (which was early 1890's armour)

Don't forget to put your new B's into a division before the war starts, otherwise they might get stuck with the tiny, old, 14 knot battleships that are not yet in a division. In terms of ships, can you potentially get invasions going? Because if so, I'd see to some CA's for colonial domination.

autoplace just distributes the gun positions evenly across the sides of the base hull size / form. You have to place them manually if you want them to fit with superstructure (or redraw superstructure to fit gun placement.

Man it's pretty unfortunate to be in a position where you need to expand the fleet, but the battleships you're building all have quality -2 guns. Hopefully the research spending will pay off soon!

Naval Academy is at the bottom left of the Doctrine page once it is studied. Just a check box. Gives a better chance of higher quality of officers.

For you old battleships it maybe worth sending them off in pairs with a cruiser/new DD or 2 just to hold onto the Tanganyika and the Bismarck archipelago as you don't really have to win with them just hold a presence as even a terrible ironclad will still be able to put up a challenge till 1900 rolls around

Merely 1,000 tons or so more than our Berlichingens it seems they are going to be a new generation in and of themselves! 12" Main battery with 8" secondaries, quite impressive- it also seems they are planning for a big batch. Importantly, Fleet Tactics has techs that reduce mistakes in communication between ships. It was the very first tech in that category in RtW2. Not sure if it still is in RtW3.

If I remember right, RtW 3 actually had a function to invade neutral contries. I'm not sure whether that is a tech later or if it got scrapped, but I remember that being a thing.

In what world without an alliance, or treaties to allow troop movements with either France or Austria-Hungary war between Germany and Italy would be land war without much naval action? The countries don't even border each other. There's Austria, Switzerland and France between them.

Germany and Italy dont share a land border and excluding the time between 1938 and 1945 never did. Granted the the HRR included Austria and had some teretories in Italy but by the 1890s this is nearly 100 years away. Prussia used to ally Italy to annoy Austria Hungary. Soldatenkönig (Soldierking) is the nickname of Frederick II (the great) father.

Maybe build some destroyers, keep in mind the ai is likely unable to concentrate their battle ships and has to use some on foreign station, with a lack of light ships. But battle ships couldn't hurt.

Since you have a lot of money, ans just got DDs, you could make some Kamikaze DDs, with 2/3 torpedoes tubes and no turrets, just use then to swarm the enemy with torpedoes and get then out of the fight

If you can you really need 5" guns on your "light" ships for DD stopping. Dunno why but a 4" in RTW2 will an order of magnitude more shots than a 5" for lighter ships. Its a very strange jump in lethality for small guns. I kinda wish they put more detail into the gun design than mere quality. a 6pdr thought to be a good anti-torpedo boat gun will be used in ww1 tanks. Which is indicative of its small size, small range, small power. A better example is the 15" gun from the USS Monitor is a very different animal from a 15" gun from a Queen Elizibeth class BB. The Quality system kinda works over a small number of years but it gets ugly over longer periods. Double so when some navy's chose smaller higher velocity guns (KGV 14") over larger guns, as lower barrel life was less of a concern over lower system weight.

Looking at the other nations, you may want more battleships to replace potential losses, but I know when I play RTW2, I rarely lose battleships against the AI. I wonder if another raiding/offensive CA maybe inorder since all your Bs are currently short-range?

Well we all know what DDs are like in the Tortuga Fleet, SUICIDE MISSIONS! When i think of the ships you would send to your colonial bases, i think of CAs, CLs, DDs, Corvettes for the time being. Colonial BBs are probably a bit much.

Why not try to win the race for the first ever DD? Might seem pointless with how... shall we say... unimpressive they seem... but it would still be a brand new type of ship that you'd be first in commissioning, marking the Kaiserliche Marine as a more advanced navy spearheading development of the newest ship types out of anyone and everyone, at least historically such a feat would entail quite a lot of prestige.

I think I prefer peacetime to wars. The battles get a bit samey and the battle generator has remained awful since RtW 1. But getting tech and designing ships, mwah. Could watch that all day.

I‘m new to the channel (and the rule the waves) and I was wondering until which year you were planning to keep this campaign going (will you try to get to the age of carriers or even missiles?). Really enjoying the series but I am still wondering weither to buy the game once it releases (looks very enjoyable but I do value shiny graphics).

He will definitely get to missiles. He has a playthrough with Germany that started in 1900 and ended in like 1946. Something like 86 episodes. I liked Rule the Waves 2, but I understand why some people would want shiny graphics. You should check out Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts if you have to have graphics, but I am positive that Rule the Waves 3 will be very fun, but that's me.

@@billmuller6133 I have both. Ultimate Admiral is a beautified version of this game according to the developers but for me its got a long way to get to the level RTW 2 was already at.

@@katrinapaton5283 There are some things that UA:D has over RtW. Mostly strategic ai-related stuff - there are simulated land battles and invasions you can support, you can invade minor nations, minor nations can request ships from you, AI actually goes to war with each other, etc. Out of all of these i would probably only miss invading the minors - as Russian Empire it would be very useful to take control of Korea and Turkey, for example, to secure the Sea of Japan and the Black Sea. AI fighting each other was promised for RtW 3 but i've yet to see it happen.

I have several times in RtW2. It worked well for me. I was able to sink all of the enemy's battleships, and then they were screwed. You can't really do it against Britain though.

Totally up for a cheap DD swarm... a couple losses of them would be worth it for destruction of a CL or bigger. Torpedoes seem about the only reliable-ish weapon you have right now, even if you have to use them at point-blank range - their speed should help in that regard as well. Would serve you well into the next war or three before your scientists figure out how to actually make guns shoot straight. PT boats in 1890's... too funny! -2 quality guns... ICK!
