Hey dkayed, I'm still a bit confused with the video after watching it, as well as the previous guide on toggle effects. Maybe it would be useful to, after releasing a video, make a simplified article on master duel meta on these topics, just like making a guide on certain decks. Sometimes I feel like reading can boost the idea much further that way, I build a drytron deck and learned it through a guide made by users on your site, so maybe such formula can make your guides clearer that way.

@@kekwkekw484 thats not the best mindset imo. I wouldnt set ALL your spells and traps, but u gotta set something, if you set nothing and your monsters cant defend well enough, theres a very fair chance they have no way of clearing backrow and now you have less defense for no reason.

Missing the timing doesn't necessarily have to do with chain links : a "When" effect can only be activated if nothing happend before the condition of activation. Example : Normal summon Goblinberg, activate its effect to summon Armageddon Knight, then Goblinberg is switched to defense. => Armageddon knight cannot activate here, because the last thing that happened is the switching to defense position. Not a chain link matter, just a full resolution of Goblinberg effect. That's where it gets complicated.

Another example: Activate Rock Bombardment to send Revival Golem to the graveyard. Your opponent then takes 500 damage. Revival Golem misses the timing because the last thing that happened was your opponent taking 500 damage.

How often do you see situations with missed timings come up? Are they more common now or are they uncommon generally?

@@araulen4820 It depends on the cards/archetypes you are playing. e.g. Yang Zing monsters all have 'When.... You can...' activation/effect. So you will definitely miss the timing frequently if you are playing them. However, in general, it's uncommon to see missed timings imo.

All you really need to know to not miss the timing is that optional "when" effects (effects that state "When...: You can") need to be the LAST thing to happen in order to resolve properly. Optional "if", and both mandatory "if" and "when" effects do not miss timing. Chain blocking only means putting the effect(s) that you want to resolve the most at the back end of the chain (most likely as Chain Link 1) if there are multiple effects that are simultaneously triggered so that it has to be the last one to resolve, essentially "blocking" it from being responded to by the opponent.

Really appreciate these kinds of vids! I never really played yugioh competively but it's still super helpful for casual players to learn these things. What's funny is that I recently missed the timing while playing gimmick puppets in the xyz cup when I use both effects of humpty dumpty and puppet parade. I wasn't really paying attention while doing it but at least I knew how I missed the timing.

The thing about Myrmeleo is really great for Traptrix decks. When you're about to summon a monster with Sera, but have no real use for any of their on summon effects, just pick Myrmeleo. Even without target she activates her effect, which then triggers Sera's other effect to set another trap. I was pleasantly surprised when I did this kinda by accident once.

teaching new players how to not miss timing or chain block is great. I do wonder if he'll eventually just get straight to the point and teach them how to read cards. Sounds silly but if you don't know how to read the punctuations and conjunctions then you'll miss out key chokepoints in a card's effect or misuse your handtraps. Like there are cards who's effect HAS to resolve in full and other's where only part of its effect needs to resolve, and that's down to punctuation and conjunction. That also leads to learning what's cost for a card, and where the effect begins. Verbage is another thing he can go into in a video on its own. Once per turn: 'activate this card', 'use this card', 'this card's effect', or 'card's with this name' - are all important to know the difference. Sometimes negating the activation is not the right call and it can very well cost you the game.

The " if " effects will not always trigger even the conditions are met, it's rare to find situations like this to happen but I'll give you an example : in Drytron matchup if opponent tributes Benten as cost to special summon Alpha and you chain link 2 D.D Crow to banish Benten from grave the Benten effect will not trigger to search Eva after chain ends because the last action happened to it in the chain is being banished not being tributed. Again those are rare situations to happen but you should keep that in mind if you encounter something similar like this.

It’s a different case. Benten doesn’t activate cuz the ruling change in 2020. All “if” effects start a new chain link when conditions are met, but the new ruling says these effect only activate when the card is in the correct position. In this case Benten is banished so it’s no longer in the correct position, but before the ruling change it will activate, even if it’s banished or shuffled in to the deck or something

They should also know about SEGOC (Same Effects Go On Chain). Certain effects will have priority of becoming chain link 1 or even determine the chain link order depending on whose turn it is. Here's the priority list, based on effects that would trigger at the same time: 1. Turn player mandatory effects 2. Non-turn player mandatory effects 3. Turn player optional effects 4. Non-turn player optional effects

@@Advisor17 at this point TCG & OCG SEGOC are almost the same, except OCG has an extended priority list that includes non public knowledge effect (cards from the hand, etc.). DKayed's example is fine, just wanted to keep in mind what would happen with the chain order between both players when the effects activate.

No, all quick effects will pass priority to the other player within the same chain unless the effects activate SIMULTANEOUSLY, or if they are of a higher spell speed (counter traps and things that can't be responded to like Accesscode and super poly) In tri brigade revolt, for example, after summoning resolution of summoning Shuraig, you can activate Shuraig (because it was summoned), and both nervall and kitt (because they are sent to the GY) upon resolution simultaneously. This often applies to when you use materials to, for example, link summon, and multiple materials have a floating effect. Another example is in thunder dragon if you use aloof to banish two thunders upon resolution. You can use one effect to protect the other.

There a way of a card effects that has "IF" Condition to miss the Timing. In OCG i dunno if it's applied with TCG Example: Stellarknights Deneb Scenario 1: IF and Optional You: SK - Altair Summon Activated >> Opp: Torrential Tribute >>You Chain of the Haunted(Target: Stellarknight Deneb) = Conclusion: Deneb Missing the Timing since it's not in Field. Sangan Scenario 2: When and Mandatory Ballista(Cost: Sanga, Target an Opponents card) >> D.D. Crow(Target: Sangan) = Conclusion: Sangan won't trigger since it's not in the GY. Usually this happens if the monster was a cost.

I wanna ask about magician rod. When rod is in gy it triggers its effect and i tribute a monster, then my opponent use dd crow to vanish it. Then it misses the effect. Logically it already triggered while in gy, so it should resolve properly regardless of dd crow imo. Or that “while” in text has extra meaning?

Awesome video,that kind of videos are needed for players to understand the mechanics of the game that are not explained by Konami. 1) It would be helpful to make a tutorial playlist with such content along with toggle for example or another where you were covering how GY registers which of the monsters sent there are the ones sent latest (in case you have two White Stones of Ancient for example which one was sent there previous turn but the other on current turn and during the End Phase you would like to Special Summon off of it,while you would like to use the other to return something on hand). 2) Some of the examples were complicated and confusing to understand, it would help if they could be demonstrated. Obviously it takes time to set up,am just saying. Appreciated thanks 👍

When fusion summoning e hero sunrise with stratos and solid soldier is there a way to activate solid soldiers effect revive stratos activate stratos first and then activate sunrise to search miracle fusion? You have to go into the Game Setting and change the chaining order from auto to manual. That way you will be able to choose the chaining order for Optional Trigger Effect.

Did I get it right? 1. Porobably have the Button on "on" 2. Wait till your oppnent makes a move, that would activate a "When" effect on his side, like put into graveyard or targeting 3. Get thanks "on" priority and use an Quickeffect to set Chain 1. 4. "When" effect trigers on Chain 2 and misses Timing. My second thoughts are on "Protecting" How do you put Chains before the "when" activates. (Vs Ultimateness) It would activate on the condition (like activation) and will chain to it? Or have you activate something with multiple "trigger"efects to set a good chain to block it?

From what I understand, it's important which kinds of effect you can activate (I heard Quick effect and Quick play spell), which actions happen simultaneously (like sending multiple cards to the graveyard which triggers their effects) and which person has it's turn. I think if it's your oponents turn you get priority and if it's your turn, your oponent gets priority (for example if we both had 4 Exodia peaces in the hand and we both destroy our sangans in the battle phase, if it's my turn you can search for your last exodia peace quicker than me).

Can anyone explain what is happening with my Dinomist Charge then? When I have a 6 scale set and activate charge, someone chains MST. I negate with 6 scale, and when it resolves my 6 scale is destroyed, doesn’t return from the extra deck, and I still get the initial search from charge. Am I not getting my 6 scale back because Charge isn’t considered to be active, even though it’s able to be targeted and protected by a scale? It makes no sense to me because the wording appears to be a mandatory effect.

One thing that it would nice to learn and understand through is why the text "This card can't be targeted for card effects", many times does not work. Yesterday I used that againts a Blue-Eyes Chaos Dragon: The text in Chaos says: "Your opponent cannot target this card with card effects, also it cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects." So... CANNOT. You can't do nothing against him... that's not the case So, against it I used a combo lose effect before using a destroying card and it worked... so, how? The card was first Targeted, It happened against me so many times that I had to try. For me, there is something really wrong hear. That combo should've stopped by the get go on the first card I've targeted Chaos dragon. I could not target him, there was no skilldrain on the field, anything. And the worst is the same text is in other cards and some of them you can't overrun. The combo I used: Blue-Eyes Chaos Dragon x Phantasm Spiral Power and then Phantasm Spiral Battle.

The key is the word "targeted". Meaning your card can still be affected by non targeting effects such as Torrential, Shuraig, Dark Hole, Mirror Force, etc.

I learned a lot from this video, but where im unertain is, my friend is a little bit angry because of an effect not triggering when he thought it should be. He had Quasar on the field. The effect is stated that if quasar leaves the field then you can summon a shooting star dragon. I tributed the quasar with a kaiju, and the effect from quasar missed the timing. My friend said that it should activate,but it soemhow missed the timing. My guess is bc after the effect from quasar should resolve the kaiju gets summoned and like suppress the quasar effect, but i dont really know. Can someone please answer that question for me ?

Simple. Let’s say u can activate two monster effects from the graveyard and your opponent has a once per turn negate. The one monster effect that you want to go through you activate first, followed by the other one, which puts u at chain link 2. Your opponent’s monster obviously will negate but will only be able to negate the chain link two monster (the one you activated last). Which means the monster effect you activated first will be good

Do remember that mandatory effects will start the chain (will activate) first and after that you can activate your trigger effects.

Counter traps have the highest speed / priority, only thing you can chain to counter trap is another counter trap

You cant chain block in master duel tho lol , its ocg rulings priority is always passed to an opponent after an effect is activated , i.e. tour guide plus kagemucha knight , is apollousa is on board they will be able to negate tour guide before kagemucha knight can go on chain

Wrong. You can chain block. I've done it multiple time with my adam deck. Like chain blocking block dragon and griffon, block dragon and halqi . Etc etc. The only things u cant do are chain blocking trigger from hand. Cause in OCG triggers on hand are counted as quick effect which it mean cannot active simultaneously. That is why u cant chain block card like nocto and striker dragon from hand.

there is a huge problem with noctovision. If i summon striker dragon, i cant summon noctovision. Test that in several duels and it just dont work. Konami need to fix this.

No it work correctly. This is OCG ruling different. Card in the hand cant chain block cause it treated the same as quick effect.

There is also a huge Problem with Harpies Feather Storm. Text says, the opponent cant activate Monster Effects for this turn. I use storm and the opponent can stilll resolve monster effects. This is not ok, since i use 90 shards to craft 3 copies for a card with wrong interacton.
