Some corrections here. If this video is intended for Americans that don't know football, then I don't understand why you over-complicate things by stating all those terminologies for the field, boots and kit. Yes, that is how you call it in Europe, but does it really matter? It's the same stuff! And this is coming from an European, so no national pride or such. And another thing: 1:58 . That's just misleading people. ANY player from the opposite team last touching the ball results in a corner, not just defenders! That's like saying midfielders and attackers are excluded from this. Yes, even the goalkeeper, though that like almost never happens.
@joemiller70829 жыл бұрын
In this case, a team in their own half is a "defender". That team is playing defense and a player is known as a "defender" whether or not his position says so.
@AFCA-vn9bl9 жыл бұрын
"Even the goalkeeper although it almost never happens" are you stupid? It happens really really often with goalkeeper maybe even more often than with defenders
@spineshivers9 жыл бұрын
AFCA 1900 I said the GK FROM THE OPPOSITE TEAM!!!
@joemiller70829 жыл бұрын
+AFCA 1900 I think he means it would likely not go off an attacking GK and then 90-100 yards across the other back line for a corner. I don't think THAT happens very often. A ball across the attacking line off the attacking goalie would be a goal kick. Not a corner, so yeah, that NEVER happens.
@AFCA-vn9bl9 жыл бұрын
In that case it wouldn't even be a corner at all, but a goal kick.

Ok, imagine on your half of the field(the half which has the goal your team is protecting), there is an imaginery line that always moves with you or your team mate, when you're the second closest(after another teammate, usually your goalkeeper) to the goaline edge(the edge the goal you're ment to protect). It moves steadly from the centre line to your goal line edge, with that 2nd to the last 2nd to the last play . Your opponent isn't meant to GIVE a pass, WHILE the player to receive that pass has gone past the imaginary line. That's the best way I can explain it.
@marceldennis20988 жыл бұрын
Understand it this way. The rule is put in place to prevent an offensive player from stealing goals by just standing by the opposing team's goal while the play is over on on his side of the field.

From what I understand there's one exception to the offside rule when the attacking player is closer to the goalline than the penultimate defending player and that is when he is in his team's half. What I mean is if the defenders are positioned in the opposition half (or attacking half, I don't know how the USA people name the two halves of the pitch) the player from the attacking team can still be offside when being passed to but if (and ONLY if) he hasn't passed the halfline yet, there is no offside given. That's how Torres scored his goal at Nou Camp in 2012 in the UEFA Champions League 2nd leg semifinal.
@firefire75298 жыл бұрын
exactly, if your on your own side of field then you aren't offside, lets say when it is passed I am on my own side, no offside, I was in offside position and touch the ball in my half, surprising no offside since I am on my own offside
@Bullmannumber48 жыл бұрын
You also can't be offside from a corner as the ball is always played back.
@firefire75298 жыл бұрын
new rules accutally state that you may now be called offsides in your own half if you were in offside position when ball is passed
@maciejzuk77568 жыл бұрын
PyroPlaysCTF What? They changed even that? So if I understand properly now the defensive line could very well move to the penalty line of the opposition because any attempt of an counterattack would be stopped if any player closer to the centre circle would be passed to. Unless the counterattack is initiated by a player that would run away from the defenders and potentially pass the ball after making sure the teammates would be behind the ball, that is. I hope my last sentence is understood.

Von Adam Martinez Because "football" is actually four sports: Association Football: Soccer, the term soccer came from England as an abbreviation for Association Football, and the true name comes from the fact that it's played by associations Rugby Football: Rugby, do I need to explain more? It was invented by Rugby University. Gridiron Football: American football, it's played on a field which is called a gridiron hence the true name Australian Rules Football: a fairly new sport, look it up for rules and stuff. But the true name comes from New Zealand (sarcasm intended) But what combines all of the Football sports? It's for filthy peasants who must play sports on their feet, and is far inferior to the greatest type of sports: Horseback sports, like polo (at least according to when the term Football was established hint: very long ago)

Love the video and the concept -- nice light comedy with right amount of entertainment & information. However, I want to share it with friends across the country and feature the MN United brand & players -- one of my favorite soccer teams -- but you left out some branding elements which would promote the club's brand. How about putting the United and or NASL logo on the video so viewers know the team affiliation? What about indentifying the players (name, #, position, twitter handle, etc) in the video so viewers can get to know the players? Also, little confusing demonstrating offside with all players wearing the same jersey & no GK in the frame. How about including a website url, Facebook page, twitter page, youtube channel or something at the end to drive traffic to your digital channels? Go Loons! Congrats on winning the Spring League -- go for the Double. #BeatNYCosmos

Offside is when an attacking player is behind all the defense (So basically closer to the goal than the opposing team) and the ball is passed to him. If he is in front of the last defender and the ball is passed to him in that instance, he is onside.
@UnknownPerson-uw4rh9 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Luzuriaga Offside is an important rule in soccer(football). Or you can wait at the near of the post and you can score easily and you don't need to run. Understand?
@Tchiekgi8 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Luzuriaga Guys don't know the rules but it's not their fault it's a comon mistake made by all the football fan around the world ... The rule is : If the ball come from behind him and the attacking player is not behind atleast th 2 opposite team player closest to their goal line when his teamate pass the ball to him(basically at the moment when the ball left his feet)he is offside.. This is why why peopole are misleaded it's not the last defender in reality but the 2 last player the goal being one the 2. If you are closer to the line than him when he goes out for exemple on a corner and your only behind one defender you are basically offside .
@christopherjeffers56848 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Luzuriaga If you are behind the last defender, you are offsides. However, the rule for offsides is that you must be in front of TWO opposing players. If the goalkeeper comes out of the box for some reason, but the defender stays back, then you get passed the ball, you are offsides. Let me know if that made sense to anybody else viewing this please!
@mrodrzut27368 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Luzuriaga without offside rule football is boring - all the attackers just wait 1 meter from the enemy goal and everybody from their team try to pass loong ball to them over the defence. So to prevent this - offside rule was invented - so that you cannot pass to a person when theres no enemy player between that person and goalkeeper. Moment when you kick the ball, not when the player receives it decides - so that it pays to try to time the run and passing perfectly to fool the defence. If you try to play without offside rule for a while - it quickly becomes intuitive why the rule is there. I even think it was invented many independently.
