I got the question on my exam: " vessels smaller than 20 m can they go to the traffic separation zone" ? I don't know. Can you explain please.

Good morning sr. Thank you for your video. Are the TSS mandatory use? I read that if it is inside territorial waters, could be, depending on the government of that area, but in open sea might not be mandatory?

Depends, in many areas they are described as 'recommended' and in some areas they maybe mandatory. Even in 'recommended' areas mostly all ships (other than inland ships) follow it.

Have a question with crossing a T.S.S and there is a CBD on the port side in the lane. What is the relationship between them? Is this is a rule 18 and 15 situation? That im the stand on vessel though because of rule 18 i should not impede his passage so i shall slow down take all way off and let him pass me then cross or can i do an alteration of course to stb parallel his course in the lane slow down to pass astern of him and cross? To me just taking all way off outside the lane to let him pass is more safer. Thanks

sir may u please explain power driven vessel in TSS and the vessel engaged in fishing, sailing vessel impede the passage of PD vssl then according to which rule the PD vsl shall take action to keep clear.

Both fishing vessel and sailing vessel shall not impede the passage of a power-driven vessel. when in TSS, only Rule 10 applies. Otherwise Rule 18 explains the responsibilities between vessels in open seas:)

@@SteeringMariners but sir according to which rule we take action in TSS for keeping clear of this vessel. for this vessels we reduce speed, alter course, etc that is according to which rule is it 8f.

Sir I am first year student of bsc ns ..... I have some doubts on some of the points on this TSS 1) in rule d(ii) it says a vessel may use inshore traffic zone to avoid immediate danger. So please explain what kind of danger(practical examples) forces us to enter inshore traffic zone. 2) in e(i) what emergency ( practical example) allows us to cross the seperation zone or seperation line. 3) in (h) what are the examples of vessel which are not using a traffic seperation scheme .......*(as stated in (a) section all vessel has to comply with this rule)* *Hope you understand my doubts .....bear with this as I am new to this so I might have asked you some silly questions*

The emergency can mean Risk of collision of ship/navigational hazard and weather etc.

Hi Arjun, although Rule 10 does not relieve vessels of their obligation under any other rule, it is different for Rule 18. The first sentence of rule 18 says "except where Rules 9, 10, and 13 otherwise require". Hence Rule 18 will apply in TSS unless it contradicts any statement provided under Rule 10 (TSS). Does this help?
