From a devoted Genesis fan this is amazing! Magical, mystical like the old days. Nad is a great vocal addition to the haunting somehow theatrical talent of Steve and the other boys. Yes I wish Genesis were there in the old format , but man this is a great alternative ……..the guitar solo at the end is just amazing, anyone who really loves `Suppers Ready I mean those who know every word , piano or guitar rift, those who looked at Genesis as gods in the 70's will love steves extension of this classic.
6 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The only thing that could be discussed is the theatrical aspect, which is missing there. Though, the theatrical was Peter Gabriel's back in the days. Anyone mimic-ing him today, that would be kinda ridiculous. Musically speaking, I find Steve's Genesis Revisited to sound better than the original versions.

Yes, these early pieces were so perfect that every note and tone needs to be hit in order to fulfill the expectations of those who know them in and out. It's great that they took this project so seriously.. After listening to some interviews with Phil, I understand now why I wasn't so happy with his performance of these classics.. he didn't seem to like them that much.

Finally, we get to really see Steve play this. In so many of the old videos of Genesis performances it seems that the various camera operators forgot he was there, even though he was over there killing it on guitar. Can't really blame them though because in so much of their music there was so much going on that it couldn't be captured in one shot, they really needed 5 cameras with each one focusing on just one member, and then they could have released all 5 versions.

The reason Steve's bands versions of these classics are so brilliant and emotive is surely because no one else can reproduce his own guitar sound. Roger King does a damn fine impression of Tony Banks and Nad's vocals, whilst different to PG's, have a similar feel. Bass and drums just take care of themselves. Any incarnation of Genesis without Steve, and that includes post-78 Genesis, just doesn't sound the same.
