The "style" and commentary by many for a while now has been to shave the mustache. But like mentioned in this video and quotes was to shorten the mustache. My understanding is shorten is not the same as shave. The 'soul patch" I was never really sure I would usually shorten it as mine tends to curl up towards the lip and not down and away mine is also very thin and close to the lip and doesn't extend down much. Good info and easy to understand, I will try to stick more closely to the teachings

As salamu alaykum. Almost all of the dictionaries mentioned that سبلة (ج. سبال) is the same as the شارب (moustache). For example, Mukhtar as Sihah states: والسَبَلَةُ: الشاربُ، والجمع السبال "Sabalah: the moustache" Lisan al-Arab states, وسَبَلَةُ الرَّجُل: الدائرةُ الَّتِي فِي وسَط الشَّفَةِ العُلْيا، وَقِيلَ: السَّبَلة مَا عَلَى الشَّارِبِ مِنَ الشَّعَرِ، وَقِيلَ طَرَفه، وَقِيلَ هِيَ مُجْتَمَع الشاربَين، The circle in the middle of the upper lip, and it was said: the part of the hair on the mustache, and it was said its tip, and it was said that it is the area of the mustache. Other opinions ibn Manzur quotes state that it is part of the beard and even the entire which can't be the case for obvious reasons. Hence, I was wondering where did you get the area of the Sibal to be different from the moustache. This has obvious implications since you stated the area between under the lower lip and the chin is the sibal which can be trimmed.

Surely it should be the actions of a person that makes them a good or bad person. To control everything a person does and has to look like people from so many years ago is a show of one thing that can make others trust them when their character does not match. Don’t try to be someone , try to be better than others
@Klick172 жыл бұрын
Who said a beard makes you a good person? Its part of our religion and thats it. Yes, having the character of the Prophet Muhammad(SAW) is extremely important and to look like a Muslim and not act like one is something a lot of us need to work on, but you're arguing an argument that's not even there. Also, when you're trying to be like the best human ever, it's impossible to be better than him, so you try to be exactly like him

Sheikh Assim Al Hakim said it's not permissible to shave, ie, completely remove, one part of hair on the face while leaving other part growing. It's called Al Qaza if I remember correctly and is haram. So I believe trimming is the correct option rather than shaving the moustache.

Sunnah is to trim (not Shaving) so that it will not go into ones mouth - Trim looks good on face also : the Sunnah is to trim the moustache, and that shaving it is makrooh. This is the view of the Maalikis and Shaafa’is. Imam Maalik (may Allah have mercy on him) was very strict concerning that. They quoted the following as evidence: (i) It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "The fitrah is five things: circumcision, shaving the pubes, trimming the moustache, trimming the nails and plucking the armpit hairs." Narrated by al-Bukhari (5891) and Muslim (257). (ii) It was narrated that al-Mugheerah ibn Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: My moustache grew too long and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) trimmed it for me on a siwaak.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (188); classed as saheeh by al-Albani in Saheeh Abi Dawood. Al-Bayhaqi narrated in al-Sunan al-Kubra (1/151) with his isnaad that ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn ‘Abd-Allah al-Uwaysi said: Maalik ibn Anas mentioned that some people shave their moustaches, and he said: The one who does that should be beaten. The hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about the moustache does not speak of shaving, rather it should be trimmed just enough to let the edge of the lips and the mouth show. Maalik ibn Anas said: Shaving the moustache is a bid’ah (innovation) that has appeared among the people. End quote. Abu’l-Waleed al-Baaji said in al-Muntaqa Sharh al-Muwatta’ (7/266): Ibn ‘Abd al-Hakam narrated from Maalik: Trimming the moustache does not mean shaving it. I think that the one who shaves his moustache should be disciplined. Ashhab ibn Maalik narrated: Shaving it is a bid’ah (innovation). Maalik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It was narrated from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he was upset by something, he would twist his moustache. If it was shaved off, there would be nothing to twist. End quote. See al-Tamheed (21/62-68). Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in al-Majmoo’ (1/34-341): The guideline on trimming the moustache is that it should be trimmed so that the edge of the lip can be seen, but it should not be shaved off completely.
@AbuYusha14256 ай бұрын
Just a clarification. Shaving being haram is an early Maliki position. However, the official position of the madhab prohibits shaving. It’s also important to note that a makruh action is still categorically prohibited but it is not sinful if done. Wallahu Alam.

There is some truth to your question. In fairness the sahaba had different tools to shave with , different hygiene practice, environments etc. That is why three of the four schools of fiqh consider local urf (culture in giving fatwas) Some scholars disagreed with the interpretations of the speaker.
