Now then tried with a Ron Zacapa 23 year old (was not mine), FANTASTIC. Also great with Havana 7 blended with ED 12 mixed 70 / 30 respectfully. I have 1/2 oz demerara sugar syrup. Great vid steve

Steve, I mix four rums and use the delicious mixture in most rum-drinks: 2 pts. Plantation 3-star, 2 Pts. Plantation Original Dark, 1 pt. Appleton Signature, and 1/2 pt. Meyers Original Dark.

Yeah, i like that...kinda like your own Grog. When you nail that recipe, its hard to deviate away from it. I used to do that, but then i found certain Cocktails react better with different Rum Profiles. For example, while I love your Combo...totally up my street, It wouldn't work for me in a Mai Tai or Daiquiri.

I always used to use just a white rum, but after having one of the best Mojito at El Pinar hotel in Ibiza where they used a combination of a white and gold rum, I now mix or use a gold rum

I'd say my standard go-to would be Havana Club 3 year but Plantation 3 Stars is a great option as you said. It brings a different dimension to the drink. I also have tried with Flor de Cana 4 white rum and it worked very well too.

El dorado 3 year makes a good mojito. That’s not based on necessarily choice though, but based on that is the first real rum I ever bought and I made my first Mojito last week. I am in Canada, and for some reason our liquor stores do not care much for white rum. There will be a whole wall of Bacardi white rum. And a whole wall of Havana 3 year. El Dorado I was lucky to find

I am new to your channel but not new to rum. Though I am not an expert by any means. However, I believe there is a distinct lack of Cruzan rums in your channel. For my money, Cruzan aged light rum makes the best mojitos, and Cuba Libre's for that matter. I have had it side by side with Havana Club, and for my money..........Cruzan has the slight edge.

Hey cheers for watching. Couple of things…firstly watch the new videos…series putting 32 White/Light Rums head to head. Secondly…there’s a good reason why Cruzan is not on my Back Bar…. And this is applicable to a few Brands. They’re simply not a big enough Brand, or have the money to be a Global/UK Rum. The UK Rum market is huge. Now we’ll over £1billion in yearly sales. So the likes of Cruzan have to do 2 things…be able to produce enough to keep up with demand, and up until now, bottle in 2 different sizes, 750ml US and 700ml UK. (That’s changed now cos US have finally come in line with the rest of the world and allowing 700ml bottles). But that still means brands like Cruzan may not be able to afford to have 2 bottle sizes, or convert to 700ml. Other examples of this…we don’t get Barbancourt or Hamilton in the UK.

@@StevetheBarmanUK I had no idea. Cruzan is readily available in the southern United States. I just kinda figured they were at least on par with Bacardi with production.

Ha. Noooooooooo. Not even close. Bacardi are absolutely Huge. Cruzan probably haven’t even got 2% of their Sales volume…and that isn’t an exaggeration! It could even be less! To give you some idea… Tanduay are the biggest in the World with 24 million cases sold. Bacardi are second with 19.2 million cases. Appleton bring up the top 10 with just 1.1 million cases. Cruzan will roughly be coming in at somewhere like 250,000 to 300,000 cases a year. Maybe more. But doubt it’s over 500,000/Half a million!

I was going to make a separate comment about Cruzan for mojitos, but you beat me to it. For my tastes, Cruzan Light Rum is a better mixer in general than Bacardi Superior White Rum and it's almost always cheaper on the U.S. East Coast. I've tried four different white/light/silver rums in a mojito and would rank them: (1) Plantation 3 Star (2) Cruzan Light (3) Bacardi (4) El Dorado 3. The last one surprised me because I think El Dorado 3 is a better rum than Bacardi, it just came off a little harsher in a mojito.

@@peterb2619 For the cost you really can't beat Cruzan light rum. It tastes very similar to Havana Club's white rum but at half the cost. Real McCoy 3 year is very good in it's own right and makes a good mojito as well. It is "smoother" than Cruzan, but that is not a knock on Cruzan as I do like my mojito rum to have enough bite in it to be the main character in the mojito. I also like to keep a bottle of Probitas(Veritas) around as it makes a different but uniquely good mojito as well.

Tried it with sugar syrup. Many a time. It's just not the same. Always using Demerara sugar, muddled with mint, and then rum and the rest.
