any recommends if there is disturbing noise on channel 1+2 when touching the TRS cable? the cables are fine, i guess it has to do with the TRS ring sleeve. it interferes even when touching the Tascam or know slightly on my table?

i have one of these and whenever i record anything the playback is super weak. i’ve been scouring the internet and can’t come up with anything. is the playback/record head kaput? i have 2 of these units so i could take the head out of one and put it in the other. i had to take it apart to fix the plastic mount that actuates the heads

Hi @tetrakan I'm in need of a pinch roller for a porta 05. Got any suggestions for sourcing one? Is it the same for most portastudios? Thanks

Ali express is pretty good for such things these days. Off the top of my head its 1cm diameter and width and 1.5mm hole for the spindle but check the dimensions of your old part.

Hey how's it going? I got a porta 5 and im a newbie. It won't record. I've changed the belts and put duct tape on recording block on the cassette tape itself. I cant figure out qhats wrong. When I press record it pops right back up.

Hey! Just looked through some of your channel and WOW, fantastic resource. I bought a bunch of tapedecks that all need servicing, so super greatful for this! I was hoping maybe you could help me out? I have a Tascam Porta 05 that seems to work as it should after some fixing (still need to change some belts etc) BUT I only hear the right channel. This is both from tape, and when putting things through the mixer. It's through both main/line outputs, and through phones. However, the LED-indicators indicate sound on both channels. Do you have an idea of what the issue could be, or where it might have its origin? Massive thanks in advance!

Yes this is possible. just resistors and simple switches required, a little custoim board wired to yellow and blue cables, just copy the circuit from a 424 mk II (for example - this is available on my blog for free download) and find a place inside to mount the board.
