I’ve heard Bowe say before in an interview that his only ambition was to be heavyweight champion. After he accomplished this goal he says that he only fought for other people and not himself. I believe there is some truth to this because if you look at his eyes and expression during his entrance for the first Holyfield fight, he’s totally engaged and serious. I never see that same look in his eyes for another fight entrance afterwards. As for Lewis, I believe Bowe wanted the fight to happen, but Lewis was too dangerous and Bowes handlers wanted to cash in on their investment. The two low risk defenses against Dokes and Ferguson made them millions.

his handlers may have wanted to limit the risk against Lewis. But let Bowe decide.

Those words about becoming a chamion as an only ambition look trustworthy indeed, because Bowe's signs of lacking dedication became to show up right after Riddick had won the championship

Not all true they eventually signed in 94 and Lewis lost to is mandatory. If he was too dangerous he wouldn't struggle with Mercer, Bowes former sparring partner.

I am glad to see someone notices this. I have said this about so many fighters. Look at Duran post Montreal. He never had that fire in his eyes again. Tyson post Spinks lost his hunger and it showed on his eyes. By the time of his Tokyo fight he actually looked bored and lethargic walking into the ring. I could go on. But the eyes tell a huge story in boxing.

This was an absolute masterpiece rummy. Man I used to love bowe. I hated rock Newman. I feel like Tokyo Douglas, undisputed bowe and fade cut Lewis were some great matches we missed because of politics and business.

@bruh_1627
@bruh_1627 4 жыл бұрын
I doubt that version of Douglas would be an easy fight for anyone, but I feel part of the reason he looked so dominant was because Tyson was just off. I think Lampley even said in the second round that there was talk that Tyson wasnt as sharp as he normally was. Tyson wasn't being as aggressive, wasn't throwing many punches, not throwing combinations, and had shitty defense. Douglas would have put up an amazing performance against any version of Tyson but, it would be a lot harder than it was against the best Tyson.

Another superb video Rummy.Your description of Riddick is spot on- top 10 possibly even top 5 head-to-head ability but a disappointing legacy considering his God-given talents.Damn Bowe's own lack of self- discipline,and damn that ridiculous stunt organised by Rock Newman.Dropping the WBC belt in the bin was so stupid as it permanently ruined Bowe's image.It made Riddick look cowardly but in reality Bowe was brave as hell.The courage he showed in the Golota fights was awe-inspiring. So sad that such a gifted,courageous fighter wasted his career.

It's a shame that most fans can't see, understand or value "focus" as part of the talent set of a fighter...Bowe was A quality everywhere but in "focus" department. It would be so much easier for people to see the shortcoming if it where in a a more physical department, i.e. speed or power. Lennox was focused as a laser more often than not and would have brutalized Bowe after the realization of shortcoming came home to Riddick. Futch knew it to.

awesome vid! bravo! just wanted to share a fact that a few people in the boxing world knew... Riddick Bowe back in the late 80's sparred with Tommy Morrison at the gym of Mickey Rourke in California. They were suppose to go 3 rounds and they ended up going 2 since Bowe was getting a lot of damage in his rib cage and they stopped the sparring session. Later on Morrison team proposed a fight with Bowe and Bowe rejected , so he fought again Holyfield for the 3rd time.

The best 2 heavyweights during that time had to be Riddick Bowe's balls. Surviving that vicious onslaught from Andrew Golota commands the uttermost respect

Correction Rummy no matter what way you spin it you can't say he beat Golota. He got murdered in them two bouts and they ended his career.

Do you believe an in shape, focused Bowe would get beaten like that? Imo Golota in the 2nd fight was slowing down and he went low because Bowe would have KOd him even while being beaten most of the fight.

@@ZBOXINGTALK gtfoh, Golota beat the dog sh*t out of Bowe in both fights. Bowe was the most overrated Heavyweight in history. He lost against a washed up Tony Tubs. Outside of the Holyfield trilogy he beat absolutely nobody.
