You got couple of freestyle dancers there! I had two Bernese Mountain Dogs, both male, so different by character. The other was really easy to train, learnt quick and remembered everything. But training with treats was a bit difficult, he focused so much on the treats he tried to read your mind to get the prize as fast as possible. Kind words and patting worked better. The other was so tender by character, I chose to train only some basic things with him.

Bernese mountain dogs just seem happy all the time can’t wait to own one!!! Taking many hikes up the mountain😋 hope they love to swim unlike my german sheoherd bc I want a dog that will swim in the lake with me and since I’m not a retriever person......

They love water! My two Bernese Mountain Dogs didn't really swim much. They rather walked on the water where their paws could reach the bottom. Swam so far that fetched the sticks you threw on water. The other dog had some distrust on our abilities to swim though. Got really alarmed if someone went swimming. He was over-protective of my sister's daughter, didn't let her swim at all, saw him once pull her out of the lake by her swimming suit.

Awesome video! I tried to train my berner to play fetch but after fetching it 2 times she usually got bored and could not get encouraged to go fetch again. The trainers who helped me told me Berners are just stubborn like that but i gues i just had to try differently. Thank you for sharing this video and i wish you, Rumor and Secret many years of happy memories. :)

Communication, not commanding. When training, they are very happy to please you. They are really, really nice behaving kids and love their parents. Quite puppies need to be told firmly. But adult dogs can be told softly. That's my two Bernese Mountain Dogs experience.

I love this! I hope you can make some videos with how you trained her to do some of these tricks in the future. I am owner training my service dog and turns out shes a Bernese mix, lol. Some of your moves look like body/hind end awareness, something we are working on now, I'd love to be able to do some of the moves later to help us both learn to manuver better in smaller spaces.

I agree, body awareness (especially rear end awareness :P) is very helpful for heeling and moving around in small spaces. I also think teaching them back up is supper helpful too! We are working on backing up now, I'm just trying to find what luring and motions works for us. Shes been super smart with obedience, though we do have some pulling issues occasionally while out for walks, but shes only 5 months so she can get spooked by things still. I grew up "old school" with punishment training on dogs and I am steering clear of it this time using positive and luring, it feels faster once she understand what I want her to do she'll do it all the time. Right now everything turns into "high five"! LOL

That's awesome! She seems like a wonderful dog! Rumor had an issue with pulling too, but with positive training a some patience she walks great on leash and off leash. One thing I love about positive dog training is that you can train the dog to want to do what you ask of them instead of training them to be afraid of not doing what you ask of them. Keep up the great work!

You should compete! You guys definitely have the chops, and well - I don't know your neck of the woods, but in my experience, dog people are generally great folks, and going to a competition is more about the dogs and the people than, like, wasting the competition. Anyway, thanks for the video!!

Thank you! They can bark very loudly if they want to, but typically they don't bark very often, although it depends on the dog. But if you do decide to get one, they are wonderful dogs! :)

Thank you!! It actually was pretty easy because there are so many great trainers here on KZbin. I think the key to training easily is training positively. If training is a positive experience, then the dog will be excited about training, and will want to learn new things. At least that's my experience. :)

Im planning on getting a dog Next year (if i find the right one) and i still cant decide. Ive researched so many different dogs now, and suddenly the bernese popped up. I know their health is really bad, but are there some other cons to this dog? Im definitely gonna do more research to this dog breed. Btw, its amazing how good you must be to train your dog! Amazing tricks aswell, keep up the good work :D

Thank you! There are some cons to this breed if you don't have the money or space to take care of such a big breed. They eat a lot and they need more exercise for their size than you might think. They also are prone to separation anxiety. However they can be great dogs, just be sure to get one from a good breeder!
