Great video John, these feelings of High when you get to the ring, the roads, the Adenau are just like a dream. The emotions are at the redline, its a dream that sometimes hard to believe that its a real life when you are there, at the Ring area. I've been there twice and as you said in the vid - there is always a think: "When do we come back again" :)) Magic place!

I stumbled upon this film while searching for mr2 videos - i'm an sw20 owner myself but appreciate all of the marks. I really enjoyed the sombre yet uplifting storytelling. I especially identified with the moment where the revs climbed and you let out your joy about the sound of the car! I'm sure all with an appreciation for cars and driving will enjoy this film. Hopefully your mr2 is still going strong and treating you well.

Just got back from this years trip! It has a new engine, I blew up my old 2ZZ on a circuit in the UK. It's still going well, still lapping about 9:30 Bridge to Gantry.... It's the driver stopping the car going faster!

Well, Link me up when you get your Polo out there then! I'd love to learn some lines. So long as you go Sub 10 minutes, of course - which I managed on only my 8th ever lap. Happy with that! It's not a place to get cocky.
@BlueXonar8 жыл бұрын
Sorry, must have been having a bad day... The lap didn't suck, if I was taking my car round there I'd be too scared of crashing it to do anything too outlandish. The video was better than I could have done too... I have had a few cars since the Polo though, those videos are old ones I uploaded. I went to a Corolla T-Sport, then a Celica GT, now I'm in an Octavia because of work miles, but I'm looking at a 2ZZ swapped MR2 now, which is how I ended up here... :)
@jondrives13958 жыл бұрын
Fair enough mate! I'd highly recommend getting out there if you can, it's epic no matter what you're in. You can watch my full laps on this channel too, Lap 7 is my best.(if they're not too boring.) Can't recommend a 2ZZ swapped MR2 enough. Lots of knowledge on MR2OC. They're a great balance of fun and low cost. Mine has also been faultlessly reliable.

Changed the oil? It was a Corrola engine that came out of a£995 car. I blew it up a while after this trip on track, and replaced it with a reconditioned one which is with the new owner in the car now.

Fantastic video! I've been deadset on picking up a w20 but they seem to be gems to find here in the US, and at first i didn't really like the look of the spyder but i think it might be growing on me. How fun is it really? I haven't had the chance to drive an mr2 yet but from what I hear it's a unique experience for sure. Again, great video! Subscribed!
@jondrives13957 жыл бұрын
How fun is it really? I love them. I've had MR2's for 10 years now, 2 AW11s and now this one. They just feel unique to drive. Certainly get a drive of one to see if they're for you. I agree, I'm not a huge fan of the spyders looks - but then you can't see them when you're driving them and that's what matters!

How did you buy a MR2 for 500 pounds?! Even high mileage MR2s cost many many times more than that here in the US.
@jondrives13957 жыл бұрын
Manic Bidder Cars are just much cheaper over here in the UK. most cars are worthless by the time they're 10 years old. my donor car did have a knocking engine though, which is why it was so cheap.
@ThungStudios7 жыл бұрын
How the fuck did you find an MR2 Spyder for 500 pounds? They're at least $5,000 in the US
@jondrives13957 жыл бұрын
They're just cheap here. They sold well and they're impractical, so the used market is limited. It had a blown engine. Decent ones are £1,500, but they're still very cheap for the fun they offer.
@syedabbasshah65446 жыл бұрын
awesome, but id like to know the times of all the cars of you guys and to see how the 2zz stacked against them
@jondrives13956 жыл бұрын
I do a 9:30 BTG. Better drivers than me can put a MR2 around the 'Ring in 8:40. THe E91 M3 does it in 9 minutes and the Sti 8:40. None of these are professional drivers or race prepped cars - just people having fun.

Nice vid, there is a MR spyder 2zz swapped with 6 speed for sale nearby, how is it powerwise?
@jondrives13957 жыл бұрын
If you mean numbers wise, I don't know as it's not been dyno'd. I'd put it at about 180bhp, that's what similar cars make, and it feels about right. It's very peaky though, you really need to be in lift to feel the benfit of the 2zz-ge engine (so over 6,000 rpm!) Short gearing helps on fun drives but isn't great for long distance cruises. I love it, it does exactly what I want, but it's not for everyone. Also, I know there are some pretty weak iterations of the 2ZZ in the US (like 160bhp) so work out what you're getting!

Hi I've been looking into a 2ZZ MR2, just wondering if you could give me a little more insight into what goes in to swapping the engines? Is this a pricey build? What sort of budget am I looking at. Thanks
@jondrives13957 жыл бұрын
Russ hi Russ sorry I missed your comment. don't know if you're still considering it... as engine swaps go it's a very simple one, but as ever with cars costs mount up! it's easily home swappable if you're mechanically minded. I got my engine and gearbox from a corolla T-Sport I bought for £875, and paid a garage to do the swap (credited at the end of the video, bonsai garage in Weston super mare). if you want a few other niceties like keeping the lsd from the MR2 gearbox, or a Lightened flywheel it adds up a bit. plenty of info out there if you Google MR2 2zz swap! mr2roc and Spyder hat have plenty of help available too.

Great video! What size tires do You use?
@jondrives13956 жыл бұрын
I run Yokohama AD08-R's, 205/50 R16 at the front, 225/45 R 16 at the rear. I think 205/45R16 is a better option for the front, I have 'too much' tyre sidewall height there and it stops me lowering the front without rubbing on full lock.

Im not so sure how much fun the nurburgring is, for one u cant drive on the limit and let your car slide, cos the asphalt is uneven as hell, and there is just too much traffic... A normal wider track with more safe zones is more fun in my opinion... Just too dangerous on the ring
@jondrives13958 жыл бұрын
I just drive it like a UK 'B Road' where you know there is no oncoming traffic. That's it. It's not uneven, traction is very good and the surface excellent - the hills and camber however are very challenging and part of the fun! You're making the same decisions you do on a smaller circuit - there's just less margin for error. I agree, you can't go 100% committed, but it suits me since I'm primarily trained and practice on road anyway. It's hellafun: A great stretch of tarmac with no speed limits and every kind of bend imaginable. What's not to like?
