Mike was recently in Canada as the guest of Rob of the channel British Muzzleloaders / britishmuzzleloaders and got the opportunity to set up a WW2-themed run and gun with Rob's Canadian-made Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.1*, putting into action some late WW2 techniques from some obscure training memoranda.

Hey, credit where it's due. When this channel was pretty much just Alex and Patrick R., yeah it had a certain charm. They worked well as a duo. Problem is, at times Patrick could be annoying, and as for Alex.... Okay, I remember a certain episode of TFB TV where we finally had a chance to see his fantastic sense of humor. And it genuinely surprised me. The problem was, most of the time, Alex accidentally came off as a d-bag. I'm sorry but that was the vibe he gave off in front of the camera. By comparison, the camera LOVES James. Would happily bend over backwards for him. If the camera was a woman, James' wife would have to pull her aside and have a very stern chat with her. The camera likes Mike. I think everyone does. Someone hating on Mike would be like having hatred in your heart for a puppy. What kinda miserable sack of $#&% would hate on a puppy?

I know this is an old video, but hopefully it will be seen. I am extremely interested to see Bloke do this again with the Enfield and/or other similiar drills and such using modern/custom gear to carry his chargers. Preferably somewhere between a "modern competition" type setup and a "modern tactical" setup. I think his insight on how we could carry and utilize a rifle like the Enfield with modern gear and equipment would be a fun thought experiment. I think that Forgotten Weapons and InRangeTV could join in as well if you wanted to try several different ideas for kits. Great video everyone!

I have a 1916 SMLE, it's in great shape but I've never fired it out of respect for preserving it, nice to see one running! :) There are a number of observable differences on the later model, the location and type of the sights, the muzzle protruding farther out from the stock for the bayonet mount on the barrel etc. Pretty cööl! Enjoyed it! Thanx!

Well done Mike! I love seeing the run-and-gun and the Tommy style! The Long Branch is a lovely Enfield and I find myself humming "Rule Britannia", and lamenting the loss of the Empire. I liked how you gave the river hidden target the old middle finger rapid shots. On the down side, you don't fill out the uniform quite as well as our britishmuzzleloaders friend, he looks much more like grenadier stock to me.

If using a charger clip, load when you have 4 rounds or less. Trying to top up to 10 from 5 often results in some sort of jam with the charger. You are meant to gradually feed as you go compared to go empty and refill to the top. I suspect soldiers would keep loose rounds to max out to a full mag when the opportunity presented itself.

Impressed with the quick 3 rounds, not as much to separate that and a semi auto as you might think. Think topping up would be better than running until empty. And the pouches more useful than the bandoleer, it looks rather finnicky. Interesting.

The pouches usually carried magazines for the section Bren gun, grenades, or 2" mortar bombs. The fifty round bandolier held the soldiers personal ammunition; the reduction from the WWI ammunition count is indicative of the shift in emphasis from rifles as the base of fire to the light machine gun.
